  • January 1968: I'm sick and have fever, I just want to go to bed and sleep and have some peace and quiet .... but I went with Christina, Sue, Zoe to Birmingham to visit Dj Johnnie Walker from Radio Caroline pirate radio station in the English Channel . -- Johnnie was not at home but we drank tea with his mother .....:)

  • sorry kids you missed it we had it all x

  • I grew up with Caroline north, what years, what music!

  • Thanks for posting, that surely brings back sweet memories ! I used to listen to all those wonderful DJ's and afterwards on Radio Luxemburg and of course Radio One while I was living in London ! Fabulous time !

  • I was a music -driven American kid from Motown (am a lifelong musician) living in Brussels in 65-66. We all knew about and listened to these guys on boats and were grateful to have something that sounded like home. This became a great component to the memory of my time in Eur. Love that they made a movie about it.

Imagine my surprise when I found out today that somebody named Johnnie Walker was a jock later on..This is my name!

  • This sends shivers down my spine.

I swear I remember listening to this in 1968, just before Caroline was about to be towed away by the water bailiffs

For us teenagers, (I was only 13 at the time) it was so sad to turn on the radio in the morning and hear the faint hiss of the carrier signal as Caroline disappeared across the North Sea, taking Johnnie, Robbie and the others with it.

For me, the Swinging Sixties had ended before it begun.

  • Never dreamt over 40 years on would still be listening to Johnnie on Radio 2 - keep going Johnnie
