Just wondering, i have a 20lb recurve bow, is it still possible to shoot instinctively at lets say 15m or above? If not, how would i get around to hitting my target with such a low weight bow?
Ive been practising at larger distances and its seems to reach the target but not hit it.
Also is there any little adjustments i could make to the bow to make its shoot faster or more accuratley.
What are your thoughts on eye dominance? Should I consider switching to left handed shooting if I want to shoot instinctively and am left eye dominant?
great vid, this helped me a lot. I got a recurve last year, hadn't had a bow since a compound as a kid, and now I am hooked. I wasn't very consistent until I watched this. Thanks very much.
I started shooting recurve a couple of months ago... I can get 4 out of 6 arrows in a 4'' group at 10 yards... Sometimes all 6- but i'll call it a fair 4. Anyway, I set up a 10' ladder stand in a hog wallow(im in s texas) I'm about10 yds from where i think the hogs will come in. My question is will the 10' standing in a slightly different position make me less accurate?I practice on the ground w/ a slightly different form. I simply pull back hit my anchor and release.I dont use the arrow to aim
@houston56able It wont make the arrow drop any more or less, assuming the bottom of the tree is 10 yards from the pig, however, it'll seem like it's a lot longer than 10 yards, making targets smaller etc, so you may not shoot as good.
Great series. Very informative. I have been an instinctive archer since I was a youngster. I got my first rabbit with a 20 lb.long bow when I was 7 yrs. old. I got my first whitetail with a 45 lb. Indian Archery all fiberglass deflex reflex long bow when I was 10 yrs. old. I love traditional archery.
Dieg, I dunno. Why not wear a bracer and a tab? It's not like I wear gloves to play guitar or anything. If you want to build up big scabs, shoot without 'em! I wouldn't, but there you go. Up to you! I think you can hold aim longer with a tab on your fingers though, with a higher pound of draw on a bow, so it may not be worth the pain of shooting without one.
Very good vid! I have tyried to explain instinctive shooting to a few...I really liked your analogy of baseball and football, I will echo this from now on!
Check out my "Carving a Bow" vid if you get a chance.
Question, I want to try to shoot without any protection (tabs, gloves or bracers). Is it possible to do that after a lot of practice and thickening of skin?
@MrTrapper17 aluminium arrows are usually used for indoor archery sinth they have a bigger diameter. carbon are often used for outdoor because of the small diameter and light weight.
@Diegoveloso3 Honestly speaking, I would wear the bracer to start off. I no longer use one, as I haven't hit my arm for years. As far as gloves go, if you don't wear them or use some other finger protection it will take some time to be able to shoot for any decent length of time. Short answer: you don't really need the gear, it just helps you get started.
Very good vid. My instructor says, "find your own style", so what works for this dude works for him (and his advice is wise). I think every archer is different, and he's using this combo of techniques because he can repeat them. Personally, for example, I hook under my jawbone, draw back very fast, aim for a heartbeat and then release. But I don't have his experience at unknown distances, so I have a lot to learn there,
Awesome videos, thanks for making them. I'm just getting into Archery myself and these vids had some really good solid info. I'll recommend them to any other beginners I know :)
I have shot compound for years but am now thinking about going to traditional...specifically a recurve. I found your Basics series very imformative. Thank you
Tthis is a great resource for a novice traditional archer! Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge!!!

They make a no glove nocking point go to eBay. I have thick callous and still can't shoot a strong bow no glove.

I don't understand why instinctive shooting is difficult.
Did people not know how to make sighting apparatus back in the day.
Or if they were in a formation in a battle, couldn't they just copy the tradjectory of a very experienced archer

Hi lrfromme !
What do you think about a string 's kisser ?
JCGphotopigiste 5 months ago
@JCGphotopigiste he has them on his bow, they greatly reduce vibration and string smack if placed correctly.

yes u can shoot bare fingers. just takes practice but if you think about it, its more natural than shooting with a tab or glove.
