Wait, the last title in the aborted segment doesn't make any sense. The fact that the Buckaroo Banzai people are still trying to get the movie made 25 years later shows that it clearly WASN'T aborted, it just never got off the ground. Last time I checked, giving it 25 years of persistence and aborting something aren't exactly synonymous. Failure.

there are several reasons the Golden Compass franchise did not work. first of all, I would say it is because it is based off of a trilogy that is not entirely for children. yes, it's in the young adult's section, but a lot of y.a. books are written on a deeper level so that all ages (esp. the parents) can enjoy. there are a lot of things that the books can get away with that a movie cannot because a movie is more graphic. another big reason was the boycott due to religious issues.
