  • This guys a complete dumbass, and not even that the fact he doesnt support medical cannabis. Thats his choice. The fact that he tells people that there is a synthetic marijuana available to the people. first of all, those are classified as "Designer Drugs," which are fucking terrible for you. they obviously have no medicinal value to them, and are overal just a really bad thing to get into.

  • with dave taking out album of the year...just like glen campbell did back in '69. would you like figbat phil to be given his much deserved nobel prizes.....or figbat phil at day 2521 come to america and hammer dufus to a cross. what are your views on these points messer?

  • messer?.....are they as f u c k ed as dufus bush's and bob gates. is it democratic to lock people up in guantanamo bay without charge. indo boy obama was going to close it down...but that turned out to be a false promise like all the rest he made. what do you think of the romantics' "what i like about you"....what are your presidential views on bringing back decent music like this and knocking dave grohl and pap smear off their self-proclaimed "we are true rock" dais. are you going to put up

  • you really s h i t me mitt...you remind me of a nazi colonel circa 1943. my nickname for you is "messer".....as in messerchmitt. so you dont drink alcohol or coffee or smoke cigarettes. why dont you follow the amercian dream of starbucks and mcdonalds messer? are all SDA's like you....i hope not. i really like pastor lloyd's voice....even if his ideas are a bit f u c k ed! he reckons jesus christ created all the humans literally. i heard him on the radio. so what are your ideas on democracy

  • hallelujah!

  • What an Idiot! Yeah lets let more people get hooked on pain killers so the pharm industries can make more money! Pain management!! ha ha ha!! in other words lets hand out opiate pain killers. It blows my mind that people think like this. Marijuana is a miracle for some of these people. But lets just be closed minded and allow alcohol to be legal and other narcotic pain relievers for america to get addicted to so they can get their money! F Mitt Romney!! Go RON PAUL 2012!!!

  • It causes crime because its illegal.... what a dumb fuck haha.

  • as one who has battled several types of cancers, how dare you tell me what will and will not help me manage my pain, and all the other wonderful things dealing with not only cancer, but the effects of the big pharma drugs you are told you MUST take?? I am one who indeed must make use of the synthetic form of the natural herb, and aside from the absurd expensive vs growing the plant, it does NOT work nearly as well. Did you ever think your inlaws didnt HAVE to deal with as much as they did? pfft.

  • Mitt is a Mormon and they belive caffeine is a drug as well so it's not surprising he would be opposed to this because his God and the guy with golden glasses says so. Something to think about America.

  • Mitt Romney sucks...yes, there are other sources of pain management, but most often come with side effects that are often worse or just as bad as the reason why you take the medication for in the first place. Marijuana is, in my eyes, the only drug that relieves pain that has few side effects (you know, munchies, giggles, etc.) and no deaths over the direct use of Marijuana.

  • he didnt answer his question AT ALL

  • * earlier, weed will lead to harder drugs. If you legalize it it becomes cheaper, more avaliable, and more people will use it. Although the drug war may be expensive, Confucius said: the superior man seeks for what is right. The inferior man seeks for gain.

  • Actually he is right. If you smoke weed a lot, eventually it won't give you the same "high" as it once did, and you will look for stronger drugs. Banning alcohol and cigarets will cost a TON of money. Weed may not be so harmful to your lungs, but it is very harmful to your brain. I have a friend who before he started to smoke weed, he was completely fine, and normal. Since he's started smoking it, the way he thinks is different. He's very gullible, stupider, and just different. And as I stated

  • @ChineseActionMovie Annecdotes do not count as evidence. Some youtube commenter named ChineseActionMovie saying "but it is very harmful to your brain" is NOT evidence. Jesus christ...why don't you do some real research before you post something so stupid.

  • Alcohol is the biggest gateway drug, it makes people do stupid shit. Britians cocaine consumption is in line with its alcohol consumption. How many people take coke when they have had a lot of alcohol? But without the alcohol most people wouldn't touch it.

  • Drugs? How bout more pot and less drugs i.e. pharmaceuticals m'kay! Fuckin twat.

  • Don't consider Ron Paul. He is a racist and a nut. Gary Johnson from the Libertarian party is the way to go. Plus he has a better plan than Paul.

  • Teens consume more alcohol than Cannabis. Before Cannabis most consume Alcohol. Should Alcohol be illegal because of that?

Romney is a big government Statist.

    Consider Ron Paul, please.

  • Ask a mormon about marijuana... what would you expect to hear? Ask a bought and paid for crony capitalist politician about marijuana... would would you expect to hear? Answer to both questions, is this.

  • What a douchebag. He's definitely getting some money from pharmaceutical companies.

  • Fuck Mitt Romney!

    Ron Paul 2012!

  • FUCK MITT ROMNEY!

  • well now im not voting for him!!

  • Ron Paul for the win!

  • Oh, so now he thinks he is a Doctor?!?!

Ask any doctor in the world, Mitt, and they will all give you the same answer that marijuana is much safer than tobacco, alcohol, and all the other painkillers that they prescribed to his parents.

As for crime, legalizing it will reduce gangs, which will reduce murders, which will have less people in prison. And since dealers are gone, the whole propaganda "gateway theory" will be out of the argument... What a stubborn, brainwashed idiot!

  • he's a braindead idiot! so glad he lost out! Mother's milk could be a gate way drug if you believe that line...In the meantime many mormons in Utah are dying due to their overuse of Perscription painkillers, hey they lead the nation on that! go natural...long live medicinal marijhana jerks like him will never stop it

  • its the pathway to drug usage? this guys a dumb ass everything he is saying is bullshit

  • o...and he also said that there needs to be less drugs in the society, drugs help people...so y would you want less???

  • see the funny thing is that he said that his wife's parents were going through pain from cancer and they had no marajuana, well maybe if they had had some maybe they wouldnt of went through any pain!!!

  • "Mormon Tea" has ephedra in it, a meth precursor, prosecuted under the Analog Act. Given Mormon history... ?

Also "Kaneh Bosm" in the Hebrew of the Old Testament has been proved to be the earliest use of the word Cannabis. An ingredient of The Holy Anointing Oil, in Latin "Christ".

Continue wasting tax dollars on an ineffective policy? Prohibition was a failure with alcohol and it is a failure with cannabis. If you listen to the calling of The Spirit you will know that I am right. God Bless.

  • idiot. if marijuana was legal, it would be similar to alcohol's legality. alcohols worse when used irresponsibly - violence, addiction! i think that part of the reason kids smoke pot is it's illegal and intriguing. drugs should be a medical issue, what a person does to their own body is their choice. the worst medical ailments associated with it are bronchitis, a foggy head, and a few extra pounds after the munchies. And what it does for your perception of the world outweighs that.

  • this guy is a selfish bastard who only cares about ppl makin money off of prescription medicine and the fact that hemp would put all of the huge coporations out of buisness but the fact is patients who use those meds can't even function and the ppl who use marijuana prefer it much more but THIS GUY DOESN'T GIVE A SHIT ABOUT ANY ONE! ONLY MONEY THATS HOW EVERY POLITICIAN IS GONNA BE LIKE FUCK ALL THEM

  • Let me ignite a pipe of delight that that guys campaign is over....

  • Somehow Romney is supposed to be a medical expert and know the legitimacy of someone in this guy's condition? This was a set-up.

At least Romney is smart enough to know that there ARE alternatives that are supported by the majority of doctors and scientists. (THC pills?) It is sad that pot smokers will use people with real medical problems to promote their agenda.

  • Hi~ I actually have a real medical condition deemed appropriate for medical marijuana therapy. What exactly are the alternatives he speaks of? I'd sure like to know, bc I have tried everything. The only thing that works without the life-destroying side-effects is medical marijuana. The 30+ doctors who've treated me would probably like to know too. All he gives is a generic answer that doesn't answer any questions. He needs to say he doesn't know instead of pretending to know everything.

  • LOL @ the post below.

But he is repetitive...he repeats the same thing over and over again. How did this guy even get on the campaign....oh yeah...oh yeah...sucking the dicks of corporations.

  • Pagan!

  • Whether or not you like the man, what he says is true.

  • morman puke

  • this guy sucks. RON PAUL '08!

  • @roooose16 RON PAUL 2012

  • Fuck Mitt Romney!

  • I'm tired of these marijuana questions. Pot has been studied endlessly since the Nixon Administration. It will never be legal as long as middle America votes against it. Instead, Viagra, which is more harmful, becomes legal within a few years. Why not study that endlessly. Stop asking these questions. If you want true Freedom and want to use Marijuana, just move to Amsterdam!!!

  • if u dont wanna use marijuana thats ur right, if you wanna talk shit about pot users thats ur right.

  • there are natural things in your brain that can be released to cope with certain things, but there is nothing which helps me focus in things i wanna be focused in than marijuana, but suit urself im not a pusherman.

  • i dont hav ne life threating illnesses but i still use medical marijuana, and i think anyone who uses marijuana uses it medicinally, drugs are drugs whether its a plant grown to produce drugs or its a chemical made my pharma companies, or a liquor to make you speak easy. in canada medical marijuana is legal, and use of medical marijuana without licence is illegal and not inforced, thats how its treated by the majority of canadians.

  • Mormons believe that the physical body is sacred and shouldn't be contaminated. This means no alcohol, no tobacco in any form, no use of recreational drugs and no caffeine (e.g. tea or coffee). While Mormons don't have to be vegetarians, they are encouraged to eat meat sparingly.

  • You wrote:-"While Mormons don't have to be vegetarians, they are encouraged to eat meat sparingly". Where is this written?

Please provide an official LDS reference, thank you.

  • I'm not sure of this exact reference.

I did see it listed on the Internet.

Okay, I admit, it may not be correct.

But have you heard of the 7 sins as well?

I believe the Christian religion which includes

Mormonism, believes in avoiding Lust, Greed, Vanity, Overabundance, overeating, etc.,etc.etc.

Look it up more on legitimate religious Internet Sites.

  • LDS uses the KJV of the Bible therefore.

    Genesis 9:3 (King James Version)

Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you; even as the green herb have I given you all things.

  • to be honest, I took it off an internet site that claimed to know Mormon religious beliefs. So I'm not 100% sure it is accurate. You may want to look it up on your own. Maybe there is an official website or pamphlet you can obtain. To follow all these rules, you really need a lot of self control...something most people of course, don't have.

  • Sauron, you can read about it in Genesus, in the Old Testament.

  • You mean this.

    Genesis 9:3

Everything that lives and moves will be food for you. Just as I gave you the green plants, I now give you everything.

  • No, there is more in Genesis that relate to a health code, where it mentions grain and barley for the animals, and wheat for man. It also mentions to eat meat sparingly. Keep reading! (-;

Perhaps the Lord God advises us to eat meat sparingly, because meat putrifies in our intestines as it breaks down, (worms appear outta nowhere), and we really don't need much meat for the body.

    Happy New Year!

  • "Suspended" his campaign. What the hell does THAT mean? Mitzy Rumnuts had such a SUCKcESSFUL campaign, didn't he? Much more SUCKcESSFUL than Rudy Guiliani, who claimed SUCKcESS was his calling card and his own Personal Jesus. God love 'em, those Blockheaded Repugnicans.

  • Mitt Romney looks like the anti-christ.

  • synthetic MM, is still illegal in most states, (really all states because it is still illegal federally)...so, no, usa does not have synthetic MM that is available to patients. That is a untrue statement.

  • It won't be long, Mitt Romney's wife has MS,

It's a shame that MM is going to play a huge role in who the next pres. will be, when we have soo many serious issues that need to be considered, but patients have suffered long enough at the hands of pharmisutical companies. patients need safer alternatives.

  • Mitt is absolutely right on this issue....it should be illegal...and remain that way.

  • No. It should be legal.

  • you're a problem, the world would be better off without you.

  • First point, read Genesis 1:29. That seems very clear to me.

The fact of the matter is, the Federal Government has spent $500 Billion dollarson the War on Drugs. It has failed-drug use is the same as ever. It is a matter of not continuing a failed policy.

  • Do you think alcohol should be illegal? It kills tens of thousands every year, and is addictive. It makes people behave irrationally, ruins their health, and causes people to crash cars.

  • its interesting, its almost as if he doesnt understand fully the subjects he discusses, but he still is open to any question

give credit for that, hes up there so its impossible to hate on him

    but hes still wrong

  • Mitt Romney, you just lost my vote. I will never vote for you after your false statements.

  • wow "path way to drug use" BS never did anything else but buds... then again alcohol and cigarettes but Christian conservative don't care about those drugs. I guess they rather keep selling Opiates to easy pain and keep there patients addicted to something they can make money off.

  • GIPIMP its not about mormon policy, everyone grows up with certain values. romney will push his views just as people who are non religious will push the way that they beleive things should be, which im sure reflects the way that they grew up.

  • Romney is such an IDIOT. He clearly has NO IDEA what he's talking about...

America, I beg you, don't let the rest of the world down by choosing Romney or Clinton.

  • There is only one candidate out of all the dems and republicans that is in favor of legalizing pot. If it is that big of deal to all you junkies; vote him in to office. Oh, and just a little hint; when you insult another person candidate of choice you only strengthen their dedication to that candidate and make yourself look like a desperate ignorant foul-mouth degenerate. So keep up the good work; I know you will; you and the others like you can not control yourselves.

  • by the same token, it would consistently take more and more MJ to cope with the pain. only this plant will kill quicker.

  • Too bad Mit, I was going to vote for you until I saw this.

MMJ is also about NAUSEA and the whole point is it helps those in pain without making them whacked out on narcotic pain meds.

We voted this legal in California, the constitution clearly leaves this to the states to decide....

  • Psilo007, you definetly know what your talking about. The video with the medical patient is just rediculous ..

  • Mitt Romney sucks...he also thinks Hezzbollah should be used as a model for diplomacy...moron

  • Romney says "Other sources of pain management."

Yea its called Oxycodone and Hydrocodone. Both of which are opiates and are addictive physically!

They also supress the appatite and cause health problems.

    The real issue is CONTROLL..

You cant grow pills in your back yard. If Marijuana was legal, people could freely grow and the gov couldn't tax the hell out of it.

    trade pain for money,

    nothing new in politics...

  • this guy's a moron

...pot is a gateway drug AND causes crime? since when?

    jesus fucking christ

  • When God commanded the creation of cannibus, did he make a mistake?

Hey Mutt Romney, go and fuck yourself.

  • no, there was no mistake. the mistake is man thinking its meant for injesting.

  • god also said that every herb he created for man. was he lying about that too.

  • no. Doctrine and Covenants 89: 8 and 10

    8. And again, tobacco is not for the body, neither for the belly, and is not good for man, but is an herb for bruises and all sick cattle, to be used with judgement and skill.

    10. And again, verily i say unto you, all wholesome herbs God hath ordained for the constitution, nature, and use of man--

    does that answer your question?

  • there is nothing harmful about cannabis. it is the most useful, wholesome plant of creation.

  • There is nothing harmful about cannibus, Obvious it provides a natural form of pain relief for dying people.

What do you have against that?

  • Really this should just be a state issue. It makes no sense to make it a federal crime. Even though alcohol is not prohibited federally, there are still many counties in the country where alcohol is not sold. Let people decide locally how they want to live. That's how freedom works.

  • hell yea, the ron paul way

  • i'm mormon. and i need to tell you that you don't get "excommunicated from the church" if you smoke marijuana. i think he explained very well why he feels marijuana should remain illegal. that it is a proven pathway that leads to further drug use. please don't bring religion into it.

  • haha really? proven? not at all.

the first drug most people try is alcohol... so please explain how marijuana is a gateway drug you brainwashed tool

  • Actually the first drug people try is caffeine. Yet caffeine has no regulations on it whatsoever.

  • well you get what i mean... alcohol is the first drug [that can impair your ability to do fairly easy things] that most people try

  • scott. i beleive mindsy said it is a pathway which leads to further drug use. not a "gateway drug" next time read more carefully ;) im mormon too btw, does not mean ur brainwashed, i wasnt born mormon, im a convert. and anyone with common sense can see that drugs are not ment to be ingested.

  • isn't that the definition of a gateway drug? haha

  • hahaha it made sense when i was writing it, now i forgot what i was trying to say ;) maybe it is the same thing lols.

  • I agree wholeheartedley. Prozac, Oxycontin, Zoloft, Ritalin, are clearly not meant to be ingested. Vioxx KILLED 20,000 people.

  • Please read Genesis 1:29. If you are mormon, read Doctrine and Covenants 89:10.

It are pharmaceuticals and synthetic drugs that are the real problems.

  • Yeah Romnie, keep talking...

you keep digging that hole there buddie.

    [08

  • Go Romney, preach on Brother!

  • I'd like to listen to him preach Genesis 1:29...

  • Go Paul Go! Prove the rat-bastard mainstream media suits wrong!

  • "Marijuana is the gateway drug." Absolute bullshit.

  • he is done, we all know the polls are fixed, its just a product of democracy, this is a republic dont let it die, by voting for scumbags like this.

  • Alcohol is the "gateway drug". Which did YOU try first? Mitt is a deluded idiot. He is a religious prick that would like to hasten armogeddon (sp?). He would be worse than Bush.

  • Yea, but he looks more like a puppet from Mr Rogers Neighborhood. All plasticky and shiny and toally fake.

  • blue46gt LOL!!! That is one of the best descriptions of Mitt Romney that I have heard

  • I hate lies more than I do drugs.Marijuana is NOT a drug.Even though I don't want it or any other kind of smoke in my lungs,I know it's a plant and NOT a drug.Drugs are made by Pfizer,Merck,Schering-Plough,Eli Lilly and their ilk.Every drug has negative side effects.According to Mitt Romney's Bible, the Creator made marijuana and said it was good.I can't trust a man who espouses such willful ignorance and outright lies.

  • He even said that he would be ok with Synthetic Marijuana aka pfizer patented marijuana.

  • tylenol/advil are a drug too, let's ban it

  • What an asshole!

  • he just loss my vote. Im sorry to hear this. Saying there are "other sources" is not a reason, its about the "best source"

  • It's the smirking, callous attitude and arrogant act followed by total avoidance to the question that's typical Romney.

Seriously, willard is a pathetic excuse without a shred of decency in his stuffed suit.

  • I've never seen a sugar addict break into a home and slice open an entire family who caught him robbing their TV as I have seen potheads do.

  • Legalize it period... It should be FREE for Medical purposes...(though the medical requirements for free herb should be tightened a bit ..)

But Mitt is one of them.. pure hypocrites...either that or his idiocy is legendary to the human species... Don't step on his shadow!.. or Touch his hair... and never look directly at his teeth, if you dont want to go blind.

  • Yes,

    All of that an more.

Don't forget it is in the Congressional record that those "Those Nagros would get ta lookin at our White woman ..twice... Oh when dem Black boys smoke that reefer they have the nerve to step on a White mans shadow!"

    Stepping on a persons shadow?!

    Can we say Paranoid freaks!!?

Sounds like they could use some of that reefer jive!

  • Those reasons are amongst the other racist, greedy, power mongering, and downright paranoid schizophrenic reasons that Cannabis is illegal today and these pieces of shit in power today arrested 890,000 Americans last year... 80% for possession alone.

    Wake up America...

  • perscription drugs dont grow on weeds. you have to pay lotsa money for em. he says there should be less drugs. i say here here! less drugs and more plants! RON PAUL 08!

  • Legalize it. Period.

  • Ron Paul is the only candidate who gives a rat's ass about liberty.

    Ron Paul Revolution!

  • NO... He is Not the ONLY candidate who cares about liberty...

Dennis Kucinich is also one who carries the constitution...

Mitt Romney and any who support Prohibition are inanely stupid on so many levels ...there is no room to answer on youtube.

  • Typo correction...PAIN not PAID

Also, while I'm adding another comment here, I hope Romney or his wife or SOMEone he loves get's MS or some other painful disease. Then I bet he'd be singing a different tune....asshole. Damn I get so worked up over stupid people and their ignorant views on life.

I bet he's also not supporting medical marijuana because he knows all the conservatives and moral "majority" are watching. He just cares about his votes...not about us Americans.

  • his wife already had MS.. and they got through it, its horrible that you have so much hate in you that you wish others to suffer.

  • It might be hatred within him, or it might just be a reaction to the smiling, hypocritical hatred espoused by our whole political establishment.

It is bad to wish pain on somebody, it is much worse to inflict it.

  • I guess this shithead doesn't give a rat's ass about the suffering people that are in PAID due to their diseases. You want less drugs in our society, Mr. Romney? Then how about making cigarettes and alchohol illeagal? "Oh no....we can't do THAT. There's too much lobbying to be had by THOSE industries." Fuckin' hypocrite douchebag. Medical marijuana is PROVEN to work, DAMMIT!!!

  • Romney is a putz.

  • mitt isn't a name. it is a piece of athletic equiptment.

  • Ugh, just another reason to never vote for that....so called human being.

  • Booo! Legalize it for all uses, including recreational!

Crime only comes with drugs when drugs are illegal. Alcohol made crime when it was illegal. You dont see Budweiser and Miller killing eachother on the streets nowadays, do you?

The war on drugs is a CATASTROPHIC failure. It was since day one. It will always be a failure. Drugs today are cheaper and purer than they were 30 years ago, DESPITE the over a trillion dollars we have spent on eradicating them.

  • Not to leave out that each and every tax payer pays $550 dollars a year to keep the war on cannabis going...

We waste 10.1 billion on arresting, prosecuting and jailing Cannabis users...

We LOSE 38 BILLION in tax dollars from the sale of Cannabis market which is conservatively estimated at 120 billion...

It is about the largest cash crop in this country... And we have a Prohibition against it... Its cousin HEMP is going to be our industrial savior, but that is another story

  • Right on, LetoThree :)

Everyone please visit LEAP dot CC !!

  • Gotta love those guys at LEAP... finally some respectable Police.

It must suck to enforce stupid laws and ruin peoples lives over a plant that does less harm to peoples lives then coffee does...or sugar!..

  • The war on drugs makes plants like cannabis and coca worth more pound for pound than URANIUM.

    Absolutely retarded.

  • Wow, Mitt knows more than doctors about Med Mar???? This hypocrite with boast about how he is a champion of freedom in the next breath.

  • I tried Dilantin, Keppra, Lamictal and many more other prescription drugs to control my seizures but I'm still having seizures.

My ONLY and LAST option left at the moment is to have a brain surgery, with 70% chance of controlling my seizures, according to my Neurologist. But being homeless and resources for the last two years I can NOT afford brain surgery. Therefore, I'm in catch22. I'm sorry to say but I feel overwhelmed and helpless. Any helpful idea?

  • The real issue is him shamelessly ducking the question...

  • any reasonable dude would duck the question. its a total gotcha question. if romney is shameless for ducking the question, then so is the guy with MD for asking it; he knew the answer. besides, i wouldn't call it a duck really -- he said he opposed medical marijuana, every question he asked after that was given.

  • State's Rights is a bedrock conservative issue, with a wide variety of different implications. This is just one of the more public.

The question was specifically about the 10th amendment and federalism. Running for the Republican candidacy, there is no reason he should duck it.

P.S. This isn't the guy with MD. It's another guy, asking another question.

  • oh yeah wrong video. i don't really agree that there was a duck then. he clearly said that in regard to Medicann that federalism doesn't apply in his administration.. the guy's question was trying to stretch the medicann issue on to a slippery-slope, but some issues are clearly different than others, so i don't understand the problem.

  • Watch the video again. He doesn't ask about Medicann at all. He doesn't talk about state's rights in any way - except that he doesn't support them at all.

The slippery slope is saying that the constitution applies in some cases, but not in others.

It's like saying you were only robbing a bank because your children are starving - I violated the law, but I have a good reason.

If our lawmakers don't follow or even know the law of the Constitution, what validity do the laws they pass have?

  • he asked about states rights in regard to marijuana and he answered it. i understand you have this all or nothing approach to the constitution, but there are grey areas -- he is saying marijauna is one of them. there are several constitutional laws that aren't followed, so the flood gates aren't opened by romney, or can even be closed with the rate of flow of unconstitutional populist ideologies.

  • I have an all or nothing approach to bank robbery laws as well.

If there are "grey areas", the whole idea of blind justice becomes meaningless.

And the Constitution is the highest law of the land, period. If it is violated in other ways, they need to stop.

  • i don't disagree with you. i think the whole constitution should be followed, but so long as people are going to pick and chose what they unlawfully want to inflict on me, then i'm going to do the same, and only when the freedoms i take away from them give them less need to take away from me. i.e. living in a welfare state, i don't want people doing drugs and having me pay for them.

  • Who wants to pay for other people's drugs?

I think one of the best advantages of medical marijuana is that noone has to pay for it. It grows for free. It is not a matter of paying for anything, merely leaving people alone.

As it is, someone is is violating your freedom by taking your money to prosecute non violent individuals.

Consistency is the only sustainable path.

  • I am also against socialized drug regulation, which seems to me to be an ideological ancestor of the current discussion over universal health care.

The real enemy, however, is the welfare state, not the drugs. How does it differ spending welfare checks on comic books and bubble gum, or liquor and cigarettes?

The important thing to realize is the drug war victimizes you even if you don't use drugs, because you pay for it. Two wrongs don't make a right.

  • as i've said, i agree with you, but one wrong doesn't make a right either. i'm not saying that welfare money goes directly to drugs, i'm discussing the individual, and general, economic consequences of heightened drug use.

its up for debate that the drug war costs more than the consequences of legal drugs, but even if they were equal i would want drug users to live the way i want if i'm inevitably paying for their life.

  • Man, that gets onto a loaded issue..if you're paying for their life, what else shouldn't they do? Where do you draw the line? Why stop at drug use?

  • exactly!!! you can't take away freedoms of any sort and then argue on a case-by-case basis. the same line of logic applies in every case, so once its accepted there will be no end. my supreme goal is to eradicate economic injustice, then things like drug freedoms will be allowed to follow. but, it can never happen before.

  • if you actually think that the constitution will ever truely be followed with modern idealologies then you are delusional. its a pipedream at this point. the constitution was NEVER followed fully even immediately after it was written. so long as people can VOTE, and NOT have to work, for economic equality, the constitution will never be followed in the way that you are arguing here. compromises are the way of past and present, and for reason -- because people are stupid.

  • The thing is, Federalism seems the best way out of this mess, which is why it's a shame he doesn't address it.

If welfare were on a state level, you could move to a state that did or didn't have it. You could choose economic liberty.

Ditto with prohibition. A large part of the population doesn't want it, but they are stuck with it. If it were on a state level, they could decide where to live.

It would be interesting to see how much laws actually affect drug use rates.

  • i understand the federalism issue, but you're ignoring that our country is already operating in direct violation of federalism. if you look at a lot of romney's policy, you'd see that he is in favor of federalism, but not in regard to marijuana.

where we don't agree is in you thinking its possible without economic reconciliation first. i mean: there is no point in having this argument if the change you're proposing may only proceed post a revolution.

  • That's why I was upset with his answer. Instead of talking about the importance of Federalism, or why he supports a violation of federalism with regards to the war on drugs, he just repeats a thirty year old sound bite on marijuana, which doesn't inject anything new into the political debate. He had a chance to talk about federalism, and flubbed it.

Everyone already has an opinion about marijuana. Most people are ignorant about federalism. Federalism is what needs to be discussed.

  • yeah, maybe it was flubbed, but people don't understand or even appreciate the constitution. if he had answered the way we want, it would have fallen of deaf ears. nomination-wise, it's important to tell people where you stand on issues, and WHY you stand on an issue isn't discussed because people don't care so long as its what they want to hear. Reasoning is no longer important.

  • Sorry about the double pronouns - the first referred to the questioner, the second to romney.
