@SydeshowMO You may need to unlock it. Due to iOS 5.0.1 they only have certain sims that work and it may void your waranty but, iPhone 3gs is much faster than any phone i've had and i have tmobile's crappy service.

I had the iPhone 3Gs that I purchased in WV when I signed my contract back in November. Well it turns out I had no 3G Data except 30mi. from my home, well they let me out of contract and I kept my SIM and bought another 3Gs brand new off of Amazon and I just gave AT&T my IMEI from my goPhone and it said iPhone activated. If you do Jailbreak it use redsn0w its the easiest. Also in Cydia there is an app called YouMail that will allow the visual voicemail to work.

@PaceyPimp  I have tested 4G and unfortunate until AT&T get a Pre-Pay 4G service its not happening. But good news is they offer 3G on Pre-Pay so you will get that... its better the EDGE.

@Resume08 iPhone 4 and 4S work with micro sim cards. However, you can just get a normal sim card and cut it to the size of a micro sim and the phone will read the sim.

how ever if u use the internet u need to be near a router or it will not work on a prepaid plan n matter what phone u have iv had every iphone every droid and every galaxy so far and everything works fine on them no droped calls txt messages go through right away only problem is if u use the web be near a router guys so i would recomend a smartphone such as the ones i mentioned but be carefull u dont drop them cuz unlocked phone u cant buy warranty's for so enjoy and good luck guys

Purchase the Samsung A107 go phone (least expensive).The sim card is LOCKED to that phone, it will not work in another phone "What you really need is the SIM card and to be unlocked". Activate the phone. Call AT&T the following day and tell them that you have damage the phone and need to have the sim card unlock. AT&T will unlock the SIM card for free. This is how I did it and it works great in my Iphone 3gs. You're free to use the SIM card in any AT&T phone. Good Luck!

All you got to do is go to the store and buy a cheap 10 dollar go phone package and get the sim card put it in the iPhone and in the package theirs a booklet that tells you to put in a number on the phone then after it will give you your number then turn the iPhone off or 10 minutes then back on and put in your 50 dollar card and your good to go. No need for any jailbreak or unlock I did this last month on my iPhone 3GS 16gb the phone is not jailbroken at all but it is customized so mines red.

You don't remove the cover. There is a little hole at the top of the iphone, you use the tool that came with the phone or a paperclip. Insert it into the hole and the SIM card will pop out of the top of the phone.

According to At&t employees told me, the 3G internet connection doesn't work (at least now) by using any Apple iphone & blackberry phone in their prepaid service. The 3G internet connection will ONLY work by using any Android 3G smartphone. Hope it helps ^_^
