Hasseys do have removable backs, right? One of my mentors has a digital back for his Hassey, and he can still use it for his advertising shoots. No need to just shelf the Hasselblad like this..
@N6600 Yes, there is a Digital back for the different 500 models. I just think the Digiback comes in at around 10000€ used on ebay... you can get a good set of digital 35mm full fram equipment for that monny. :-D
I packed my hasselblad's away too, nothing feels or sounds like the Hassie, I replaced with a Canon currently, I still owe money on the full outfit of hassie's I bought. I love my lenses, I think I can use the lens on my Canon's but haven't got the adapter. I can't afford the digital backs, or I would use them in addition with the canon D7. Sigh...
Awe come on John, just stick a digital back on these and the dust will not have time to settle. Just as much fun and joy to use but more efficient. We were so used to handling these we never gave 35mm a second thought. What's changed.....mmmmm not a lot! : )
@alman53 The main reason that pros used MF cameras were because of the sheer size of the negative, they're twice as big as a 35mm negative and therefore they can be scaled up quite a bit more. A digital full frame sensor is immensely much more sophisticated than a film, the resolution is so good that you can get better results from a 35mm sensor than a 60mm*60mm film.
This is clearly untrue. While we cannot directly cross-compare film and digital because there is no way to be able to give film a megapixel count, a high quality 35mm slide can be assumed to contain at least 20-25MP of "data". We can assume then that a 120 slide will contain double this again. A full frame digital sensor currently cannot compete with that.
The primary reason for the switchover is size and expense. It's as simple as that.
Actually, a 6x6cm frame is 3.7x bigger than a 24x36mm frame.
I can easily get a 6000x6000 pixel scan from a 6x6frame (~36 megapixels). The lenses on a Hasselblad or Mamiya camera are far better than those for 35mm cameras - film or digital.
Then we compare to a large format camera - 4x5" or bigger and both 35mm and medium format (film or digital) are no longer able to compete.
Before you make baseless claims, get the facts straight.
No, you need to realize the situtation! Sony is good camera! It seems you are fan of Canon so u think Nikon, Sony or Olympus suck. No, good photographer can take fine pictures with Sony too. Its never camera, it is ALWAYS photographer!
hi, i got a sony alpha 200 on summer.. I am starting to work on a teen magazine at my town. I need some good and cheap lenses for sport photography and other party activity .. Please give me some info on what should i buy
got rid of my D3 in favour of the D700's higher performance at low light. but yeah for studio i still preffer drum scanned film no DSLR can get quality the same yet, not even a PhaseOne P60+ back can get the same quality
Look what equipment he has! Look how expensive this kit is! Look how long ago we used this kit for the last time! Please, why would we like to see this? What can I do with this movie? Nothing... Just one big show off.
OK let me get this right...so know we dump the blad an get a new digital crap that will worth nothing in six months hummm, that make sens.Dude how much they're paying you for the commercial?if anything you just get a dig back.that's it.there are no others lens that will compare to any blad or leica.
He could have bought a good electronic medium format digital camera. I've seen great ones by Leaf come out on the market recently. The AFi-II is very good, using equally good lenses, and the option of using film while your at it. Plus it's leaf digital, which in my opinion is better then Hasselblad's Imacon digital back (or their current ones).
You should check them out before you say digital isn't worth buying.
I disagree I have shot a number of blads and leicas and I still like my canon, now dont get me wrong i loved the blad and leica but at some point money becomes and issue and 8 grand for a body plus at least another 2 per lens its a little excessive for me

big stinkin deal, ya got a widdle Hasselblad family. I hate little shallow materialistic pricks like this dirty navel here. And all you ass sores jackin off to a these camera videos. Go do some P90X punch combos you sorry sonsabitchas....!
photogues, as I'll call them, are a group within the greater world of photography who have developed or were drawn to photography by a preexisting condition/disorder called obsessive compulsive personality disorder. Not to be mistaken with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.
The precision of the craft, the stringent obedience to rules and order, as well as the general precision and refinement of capture/reproduction tools, all serve to engage, and to some extent, satisfy that part of the personality that yearns for and is reinforced by physical stability. these are the views of my stress addled mind.
I think these videos are promotional, giving information to prospective clients, acquainting them with the tools in their arsenal, etc. That said, I don't know what they're doing on youtube. Perhaps it is explained by above post, which is written by I!

Pros seem to be replacing MF camera with full frame DSLRs so why not use 35mm in the first place?

That's actually a 503CW, not a 500CM. The 500CM does not have the possibility of a winder attachment.
It's great to see that you still have a whole Hasselblad equipment but a pity you don't really use it...
Anyway, thanks for the interesting video!
