i am sorry to ruin your electric car, wind energy sun battery dream fella but these solutions only touch the problem of rising climate temperatures it has nothing to do with oil, all these things require oil to produce transport maintain etc etc etc, oil in civilization as big as this cant be substituted by anything. we produce everything out of oil, plastics, rubbers, cosmetics, clothes everything you see is tied to oil in one way or another our whole civilization is build on oil,
stop being so american put away those weed wackers and lawn edge trimmers and leaf blowers and all the other "im lazy unnecessary" bullshit in the attic simple easy tasks like that have manual tools assigned to them and u just have to make everything so much easier dont u?
One way I prepared for peak oil was converting my home to a net-zero solar powered home that uses no oil or gas..I made a video about it called, "Preparing for Peak Oil"....
Peak oil makes me think of how the Japanese eat red Thuna for them it is as much of a sacred birthright to consumme as it is for the west and America especially to consumme oil.
The Japanese know there is less and less of this fish , but they don't even think for a second about reducing let alone stop their eating it. They cannot en ision a world without red thuna. Yet, the day it will go extinct they'll have no other choice but to do without it.
I live in Indianapolis and it is troubling to find a real shortage of people in this state who have heard of peak oil. Its good to see that some people here are thinking about it. I recommend investing in books such as gardening, carpentry, etc. We are going to have to rediscover the knowledge of pre industrial agriculture to adequately feed ourselves. There are hundreds of .pdf's on Bittorrent that you can download as well. Back them up on paper, in case you can't power a PC.
Electric vehicles may be recharged by structures designed and built with photovoltaic building materials. I envision NASCAR for vehicles that also use electricity. Gas guzzling energy wasters would run out of fuel and lose the race.
BOYCOTT! There is currently a movement to get our voices heard in a very real way. Don't purchase any gas, from any gas station, on May 14th 2008. Further, don't purchase any gas from Exxon/Mobil gas stations during the entire month of June 2008.
Hey Illinana~ You're picking up our thoughts, and getting them out there for us. Thank you for that.
Keep up the good work, friend!
I'm trying to find solutions, too. I've looked up information about solar, wind and crank energy; and unsuprisingly there are no affordable options available. But I've switched to compact fluorescent bulbs, all my lamps are unplugged when not in use, my electronics are on power strips (off most of the time), and I'm looking for a new job closer to home, too.
we've got plenty of oil here, the libs just won't let us drill for it. we could generate all of our power with nuclear, but the libs won't let anyone build the power plants. they put a wind farm up in fowler, Indiana & it's been less then a year & all ready 60% of the units needed to be replaced, of that 60% , 30% suffered catastrophic gearbox failure ( huge gears shooting out the side of the turbine endangering anyone nearby) so wind isn't really practical. we have oil here.
kdraper2007: do you honestly believe that it's a liberal vs. conservative issue? Have you noticed gas prices creeping up, again? While the price per barrel for crude oil continues to drop, the price at the pump does not reflect that In order to maintain an artificial "shortage" Oil companies are keeping ships full of oil out to sea so they can manufacture shortages and continue to enjoy enormous profit at the consumer's expense.
As far as the wind farm in Fowler goes? It seems to me that incompetence is the culprit. They've had wind farms in California for decades and they haven't been experiencing the level of catastrophic failures you're reporting out of Fowler.

Oil company executives are not liberals.
