This song is genius...every single emotion experienced when you lose someone you truly love is captured perfectly, every poignant thought expressed...a heartbreaking combination of lyric and melody.
@Elvenwarrior2001 Thank you for your kind comment. You are always welcome here. I absolutely agree that this is a beautiful performance of this lovely song.
I loved John so much..there will never be another singer songwriter that will take his place in my heart. I am so thankful to be able to watch him on here. Thanks so much for posting these
Thank you for your comments. I think it is clear that he still loved Annie but if you see the accompanying interview there was complete acceptance that they could never be together.
As is often the case, the live version is even better.
the nights grow cold and hard to live through Still you hate to see the morning come
Somehow tomorrow doesn't matter much anymore
The future hold's no promise
Your life's already done.
Well, I haven't lost the love of my life but that's the way I feel alot of the time. It's even worse to know he felt like that. It's hard to explain, but I wish he had been happy more than I wish I was. To konw he felt like that is the worse thing ever.
Check out the accompanying interview clip that I also posted. Russel Harty got John to talk about his split with Annie and suggested that this song was really 'Annie's Song Again', and John didn't disagree.
miigwetch & TY for putting to wwords what is in my heart & soul/spirit.
Oct is so hard. thankful for this vid as my heart breaks 4U that you left us but left us so much too Thanks for all you did and stood for. with love windfeather g
I had never heard this until I got the "Wildlife Concert" and thought it was for the split with Cassandra, but now I see that it was for his split up with Annie. It's pretty fitting for both broken marriages that ended in divorce or anyone elses split up as well. Very sad.
I did not upload the frank chat/interview that preceded this song. Russel Harty (now also deceased) was a very probing interviewer and he pushed John into talking about the divorce. Harty then suggested that Falling Out of Love was Annie's Song Again and John didn't say no to that.
If you hang on I'll get that interview on Youtube in a day or so. I merely cut it from the song to save time.
This is one of my favorite JD songs! Thanks so much for posting so many wonderful JD clips the last couple of days. I've truly enjoyed watching them! :-)
Thanks Michael. Super nice song and of course new to me. Kind of tugs at the old heart strings though.
I see you are still here after all....I'm glad.

That was beautiful, but it was heartbreaking. "And I don't believe a true love ever ends." Thank you Mr Donegan.

Fantastic video. This is a pearl of a performance by John Denver of one of his best but little known songs.
Thanks for sharing it, I've probably watched it 10 times since I discovered it.

Seeing him like this makes me feel like there's no hope left.
When he says: This is just the way a true love ends. And I don't believe a true love ever ends.
Do you think he was saying that he would always love Annie or that it hadn't been true love?
Either way it's just too sad

Seeing his face at the end is just heartbreaking you can still see the passion he had for Annie.

He looked sad at the end of the song. Surely about the failure of his marriage with Annie, his heart must have ached everytime he sang it.
Thanks for posting this!

Posting my clips brought me great pleasure. I was delighted to see that I had some that so few JD fans had seen. Now they can be seen by all.
