  • it has an awful design though.. its like a mini-hulk-bodybuilder camera..

  • i was wondering wat the audio options wer for the AG-AF100. looks like its hard to mount a mic on the body

  • The camera has a sweet spot of about 8 to 20 ft. Anything closer is unusable (hard on the eyes) and anything further begins to look flat (2D) and might actually become "ganked". That's when two backgrounds (behind the subject) are different due to the covergence trajectory and when merged in post - don't match. This causes eye-strain. Also the lenses not what you get with single lens systems or cimena lenses. Other than that - it's a nice camera and a useful tool for 3D filming.

  • 101-is this camera has Zoom control? does anybody know it???

  • @kernelcinema what do you mean by dimensional depth of field?

  • Looks tough

  • Thanks, great vid. I want!

  • I wish they had let me design the look of it , I would have gone for a less tea pot look

  • what camera was used for the first 30 seconds of this vid..the Af 100/101?

  • @alanbstard4: JVC GY-HM100

  • @FilmTVVideo thank you

  • @alanbstard4

the 100 and 101 are the same camera. the number depends of what country you are in. 100 is in the US. the 101 is Japan.

  • @dp24fps

We think you are almost right: As far as we know here at film-tv-video.de, the 101 is the model for the former »PAL« countries, e.g. almost every country in Europe.

  • crop factor?

  • Nobody has said anything about autofocus anywhere.

  • does this take fisheye, it looks like a good skate camera

  • It looks very retro, early to mid 80s.

  • Just take the handle and viewfinder off that 100 and add a pop-up hood....you've got yourself an old Hasselblad. Other than that...a nice sensor, nice glass, puny data-rate. Kinda like putting your foot on the gas and brakes at the same time. Where's the 100 meg 10-bit AVC-Intra they've been crowing about? 24 meg is still going to give me a thin neg.

  • The AF100 has amazing specs, but has to be one of the ugliest cameras ever. It looks like your dad's old RCA Selectavision camcorder with that monster handle and obtrusive viewfinder.

  • @zenmachinefilms

I think it looks oldschool, I like it.

  • @P4INKiller - What's the difference between 'oldschool' and 'old'?

  • @vid828 what s the difference between trendy and new?

  • @zenmachinefilms Well the RED is pretty ugly too, basically just a brick. Oh well, as long as it gets the job done.

  • I want that AF-100!!!! I REALLY hope it's under 10k

  • @IngenuityFilms Under $5k.

  • @IngenuityFilms $4,995 is the suggested retail price

  • wow great 3d cam ! like a weapon. behind this cam noone gonna hurts you ;-)

  • yes thats a good one

  • its on the rear cause its a video camcorder NOT ment for ENG use. but really just all cheaper gimmicks

  • Why the hell is the viewfinder on the rear end... Major design flaw for both cameras...

  • @mennomans

    @mennomans

It's a handheld camcorder. No Shoulder-Support. So why the Viewfinder should somewhere else than at the rear end?

  • Hello,

    For 3D - camcorder AG-3A-1 Panasonic

The 3D effect can only be seen on TVs with 3D technology?

or you can see the 3D effect on any normal TV without 3D technology

    Use U glasses?

The camera has the option to record without the 3D effect?

    Thank you very much.

  • @Boricuatv

actualy there is no comfortable way to watch 3D on a normal TV. You need a 3D-TV. What kind of technology the TV uses (Shutter, Polarisation,...) is not essential for the camera.

Yes, you can use the information of just one lens.

  • @Boricuatv

-Yes, the 3d technology must be interpreted, 3d television with glasses or 3d cinema's projectors can handle that kind of technology.

-"3D Camera" it's just a sillogism, in fact, "3d camera" doesn't exist, you could make your own "3dcamera" flanking 2 similar camera and starting the recording at the same time, recording 2 different point of view, then composite thoose with post production's softwares...take a look on google, you'll find what i'm talking about.

  • @Boricuatv You can see the 3D effect on a 3D tv. You can also see it on a normal flat screen tv, but then you have to convert the 3D files into anaglyph (red and cyan).

Yes you have to wear glases to watch any 3D. Exept some small screens that only works if you are in one stuck position.

Yes the camera has the option to record without the 3D effect.

  • @Boricuatv The AG-3A-1 can only be seen on a 3D TV with glasses. Same with post production. You need Deckling Black Magic 3D Extreeme graphic card and glasses and monitor or projector that can support stereoscopic 3D technology. (Any 3D TV ;) AG-3A-1 can be used ONLY for 3D recording because the system of the camera is with double integrated lens system so it has double signals input. Simply it has two 3MOS sensors so you cannot record anything else than 3D. I got AG- AF101.

  • I want one.

  • @AshKilamande

well it's the first of its kind and it is a pretty special product so what did you expect.

  • A smaller sensor is much more practical for a 3D camera. Why? Because shallow depth of field in a 3D environment is very strange. One of the marvels of enjoying 3D films is the ability for the viewer to change their focus from foreground to background as they want. Much of the 3D effect is lost if i decide to change my focus, as a spectator, to a background that is completely out of focus.

Now, smaller sensor means not as sensitive to light, but can't be that bad.

  • 1/4 sensors? really?

  • @JogBird

    no, it's a 4/3"

  • Can someone please tell me why CMOS and MOS are being put into more pro/semi-pro level cameras? I ask because of rolling shutter. Have they dramatically improved the chips such that is scans faster which at least reduces the obvious rolling shutter in a fast pan?

  • @StuartHaight CMOS should be able to be made without rolling shutter, so this might not have it AFAIK. Or does it say somewhere that it does?

  • The af100 will cost over $5k without a lense.

  • could you use the camera without the 3d lens?

  • I doubt there will be a market for the 3DA1. The AF100 is sort of a pioneer and it's interesting. A FF version would be more racional in terms of lens availability though.

  • Despite some negative feedback, I don't find the design of the AF100 all that objectionable and assuming the video quality is comparable to the 5Dmkii/7D then I think it'll be worth the (estimated) $6000. 1080/60p would be a nice feature but according to the Panasonic site, it will only shoot up to 30fps at 1080p. ...Guess you can't have everything.

  • little too late for the AF100. that should have been made 10 years ago.

i can see the 3d camera possibly taking off. but the question is.. will u want to watch small budget movies, tv shows or reality tv shows in 3d?

  • Santa, I know what I want for Christmas.

  • @SoliloquyFilms ditto! :)

  • is the design to cut costs???

  • awesome on like 10,million levels

  • I will bay $3,000 or $4,000 for the Panasonic Full HD 3D Camcorder. But i will not pay Retail Price for Main Unit; $21,000

  • The 80s are calling, they want their camera design back.

  • @BrandyAlex80 What exactly looks bad about the styling of this camera? The 80's had VERY FUNCTIONAL styling, especially in consumer VHS camcorders of the time, that were "shoulder-cams". This is about the same styling. These camcorders are targeted more for professionals. Would you rather have a teeny-tiny handheld? I would laugh at anyone trying to make a film with a tiny consumer handheld camcorder. I would actually buy this to record family memories too, if reasonably priced.

  • Meh, too low of a bitrate. just get the canon 550D and you'd be getting a better deal.

  • woah, ugly as hell.

  • I SO want that AF100!!!
