Singlish is here to stay, like all those different unintelligible English dialects in North-Eastern England. The most important thing is Singaporeans, having had at least 10 years in school learning standard English, should be able to switch code when necessary. You don't use Singlish when you present a speech at a formal occassion, and have to switch to standard English when speaking to foreigners, including non-native speakers such as the Japanese.
