  • Perfect song for Halloween.

Actually the whole album In The Shadows sounds perfectly suited for Halloween, more than anything else I've heard.

  • @JBonesxa I'm right with you. In the Halloween season, this is the record I listen to the most.

  • @AllHallowsEveFiend Well, yea. Whether or not the ''hail Satan' lyrics bother you, it doesn't change the fact that THEY GET BORING AND REDUNDANT.

Let's not forget they are the reason Mr. Hank Shermann left the group.

This is arguably the BEST record because it is great and NEVER redundant. From 'Egypt' to 'Return of the Vampire' it is interesting and exciting. '

We may be in the minority, but I do feel the post reunion MF cds were better.

  • @eternalhalloween1 That Hank left MF because of the lyrics is not entirely true. The official reason given was "creative differences". The story about what Hank brought to the table for the next MF album is well known in how it was not along the lines of the previous MF work. The proof is on the subsequent FATE albums. I love ALL MF and Hank is my favorite guitarist of all time. A fact he knows after I showed him my MF tattoo and informed him that it was for him as much as King.

  • @Section31Captain It was a major part of the reason. When he and Mr. Diamond reunited, the satanic lyrics were toned down to more acceptable and easier to swallow Gothic Horror lyrics. There were also some muscial differences of course. (Hank wanted to try some other things.) But the Satanic lyrics were a major reason Mr. Shermann started to feel uncomfortable.

  • @eternalhalloween1 As a matter of fact, I actually like some of the FATE stuff. However, as good as post reunion MF is, NOTHING compares to DBTO. And yes, I do like the satanic lyrics as metaphors and parables. Lyrics aside, the music on that album is second to none. It is also worth mentioning that Fatal Portrait was to be the third MF album.

  • @Section31Captain I would have to differ with you either. I give the best MF awards to "In the Shadows" and "Dead Again." We're obviously dealing with differences of opinions here. But putting our difference of opinion on the Satanic lyrics aside, I don't know how anyone could think "Don't Break the Oath" is musically superior to the intense power of "Dead Again." But we could probably argue endlessly here and not agree. Maybe we just let each other have our opinions.

  • @eternalhalloween1 Show me where it was a major reason. We can argue opinions about albums. There is no debating facts. My reponse was to what you claimed. I was there as a fan and a member of the fan club, when much to my chagrin, this all happened.

  • @eternalhalloween1 - I love all KD's work but Dont Break the Oath destroys Dead Again and just about every other album in history out of the water in every possibly way. Dont Break the Oath is top 3 metal albums of all time, no questions asked.

  • @mike1cfo We're talking opinions here. So we could argue endlessly. But I've heard everythingof MFand KD. I don't know howanyone could put DBTO ahead of the sheer power consistency and strength of "Dead Again." The title track of DA is 15 minutes of pure terror.

I also feel H. Shermann and M. Wead outdo Hendrix on DA.

DBTO is pretty much just endless praises to Satan. That was one of the reasons H.S. left the group.

Everyone has an opinion of course. Butk knocking DA is strange.

  • @eternalhalloween1 - Hmm. I have never heard the opinion that Dead Again is better than DBTO, ever. Dead Again is more often thought of as one of their weaker albums..I'm also puzzled as to why you keep bringing up the satanic lyrics like it's a bad thing. The lyrics in DBTO were awesome and helped create the evil atmosphere of the album.

  • @mike1cfo I know DA wasn't one of their more popular ones. But I honestly wonder why. It had sheer guitar power, really intense lyrics, and it was the last cd before King's voice started to weaken. And it even had a good mixture of sadness and terror. ("Since Forever"-"Dead Again")

My answer to the satanic lyrics is that whether or not they bother you, they eventually become redundant and annoying.

My favorites are "In the Shadows" and "Dead Again."

  • @eternalhalloween1 - I honestly like everything KD ever did that I have heard. Alot of people say his solo work fell off after The Eye album, but I think some of his best work came after that album..I love House of God and The Puppet Master, never heard the newest one.

  • @mike1cfo Well, like a lot of people, I think "Abigail," "Them," and "Conspiracy" were the top ones. If we're talking phase 2 KD, I thought "Spider's Lullaby" and "Graveyard" were pretty good. I didn't much like "Voodoo." "House of God" I can't really discuss in less than 500 words here. I feel "Abigail II" was quite good. I didn't much like "The Puppet Master." The last one ("Give Me Your Soul Please") was surprisingly good. But sadly, you will notice his voice has weakened there.

  • @eternalhalloween1 - I really enjoy House of God- quite frankly, I can't understand why some people rank in among the lower tier of KD's albums.. I enjoy it from beginning to end. I never heard "The GraveYard"

  • @mike1cfo My guess would be that a lot of people weren't quite ready for the content of that story. (H.O.G.) To be sure, he admits on the cover that it's just a story. But it probably did shake a lot of people.

"The Graveyard" is a horror story about a politician who molests his daughter and then makes the mistake of blaming a psychotic man. (KD's character) This leads to a showdown in the graveyard. But be warned even KD admits he's not the hero in this story.

  • I'm one of the few people who thinks that the best records of MF came after the reunion. This is one of my favorite MF CDs.

I think once Mr. Diamond got away from the endless praises to Satan, his work got much better.

An October never passes without this record being played a few times in my car.

  • @eternalhalloween1 yeah im with you an occasional satanic lyric isnt too bad but if you put up an entire cd with nothing else it gets kinda annoying

  • @kyatzz Well, yea. Compare DBTO to "In the Shadows," "Time," "Into the Unknown," or "Dead Again," and you will find that these records have a lot more interest. Happy Halloween!
