If you clean your ps3 regularly you should have no problems with the dost. You can't not buy new fat version anymore from the stores, so i will not worry about it the warranty, My PS3 is still going strong & I playing Uncharted 3 all the time on line & no problems with my system.
Yo anyone! Does it work if i buy a table fan and place to next to my ps3? And have it on everytime i use my ps3? Does this help to keep it cool and avoid ylod? Thanks
@JuanCapuchino So what should i do? Btw i have had my ps3 for 3 years now, i even had it on all night once, because of a fucking long update. It even overheated and turned it self off twice 2 years ago. i have had it on for 5 hours many times. And still no yellow light, im starting to think that it wont ever happend.
Would it be okay just to put a small fan in front of the back vent because I'm sure drilling those holes voids the system or they won't fix your console if you had to send it in or something like that and where did you get that fan for the front is it battery powered or powered because I hear that the ones that plug in the back is just a waste of money.
i bought a fan like that here in the philippines the only difference is it have six fans and it cover the whole intake of the ps3 fat and i cut a fiber of moms old stocking to use it as a air filter for external fan intake to keep the dust out i know it sounds pathetic but hey my ps3 fat is 4 years old now and still running good as new
As for the Modifications to the console to aid venting.... Nice, Clean and to the point will definitely help VENTING the HOT air! Look people, the problem exists because too much heat is being trapped into the system due to a poorly designed venting system.
Its the HEAT being Trapped by the SYSTEM that is causing the solder to Liquify enough to FLOW/ Break contact. If you dont think it traps enough heat, just look at all the Videos on people fixing YLOD problems with a hairdryer blowing into it
I like the extra vents idea but please please please anyone whos thinking of using a usb fan DONT!!!! the external usb fan draws more power from u ps3 and actually creates overheating problems for its working harder to power it ..i fell victim to this and was told by a sony expert NOT to use one...a pointless money making gimmick...his words not mine!
@lwalbertson I agree totally with this point! Regardless of how cool it looks, it only aids the YLOD for the reason stated. I have both a FAT 40GB and a FAT BC 80GB. My 40GB system suffered a YLOD melt away due to being VERTICAL, even though it's in the basement portion of my house which is 20-30 degrees cooler than the upstairs where the BC 80GB has spent it's entire horizontal life ( I bought it used from a pawnshop, to boot!)
Both have had their BLU Rays replaced due to SERIOUS MW2 Gaming
I have a Fat PS3 and will try it. who cares if it has holes! who is going to see them! I have had to relow mine 3 times now. I used artic silver and have the fan shown in the video but obviously its not enough!
cool vid man..... have also done the same with drilling holes in caseing . have had one of those USB fans for my 60GB but git rid of it ,they are too noisy. but again haveing all those extra vent holes has worked a treat.
No offence not having a dig but some of the advice in this video will actually make things worse, if u think about it one of the biggest reasons the early PS3s over heat is due to the power supply being directly above the GPU so if u are increasing its power demands by attaching a usb fan you will be generating more heat which will make the PS3 Die faster.
why do people dislike helpful videos? i swear thats so gay. i uploaded a video like this and im the only person who clicked like... WTF and i did hours of research for nothing
Yeah I saw one on youtube as well I'm searching for it too it is by a company named Thermal Take but my friend told me that plugging external USB fan to PS3 increases the heat PS3 is generating but I kinda don't agree with his logic, but he was telling me couple of days ago about a solution and if it will work I'll definetly tell ya.
are u serious........ drilling holes in such a beautiful machine??? this is got to be the worst way to keep ur system cooler. If any one is so desperate I'd suggest take of it's top cover and use it in air conditioned room. At least its better than destroying ur machine or making it look like cheese >_>
lol it does help but then its wayyyyy risky so the ps3 slim has a less chance overheating but then you could do that to help it more but i suggest u vacuum it but if you dont have one then u can do that
talking about Ylod of deat i gotta just a thing taht,
Great vid nicely done!\

having the ps3 vertical when it gets hot, gravity will pull the solder down causing ylod

You know what this is a great idea heat rises so I bet the ps3 runs quieter which means it's running cooler.

Thanks.
I will first try the USB Cooling fans.
If my PS3 continues to get noisy after only 15 mins of gaming, I will try your tips.

19 blade fan pushes less air than the 15 blade fan. 15 blade fan is more powerful

No really it does not use that much power because the fans do not draw that much Amp’s.
vidosite1 6 months ago
doesnt the external fan use the systems power? thus making the ps3 work even harder?
