@Mablungx Of course cats and dogs sound similar, im sure the brief was, "make it sound like mission impossible" it's the style of music, a spy mission caper, so many films have that sound. Zathura doesnt sound like star wars, again its an adventure film about space...an adventurous fanfare is all it is...John Williams doesnt own that. Sea Quest obviously wasnt stolen, its sounds nothing like Star Wars man, its just a magical piece of music. dont confuse copying with film styles and genre...
he's got lots of goodies, but i love "emperor's new groove" and "Cutthroat island"--such an underappreciated movie, like it more than "pirates..." much of the time.
Well, a little. Of course, both Danny Elfman and John Debney later co-composed the score to 2001's "Spy Kids" and then in 2004 "Spider-Man 2" with Elfman as main composer and Debney co-writing additional music along with Christopher Young.
Passion music was powerful. The Halloween Tree was wondrous and mysterious, and Hocus Pocus was whimsical and fun with a little of the mystery from the Halloween Tree. DSV theme is a great theme song that rivals the themes to other SCI FI franchises.
His music is often better than the films or elevates the film to a higher level. He certainly deserves to be doing a better class of films than "Hannah Montana."...whats up with that?
It does contain that heroic melody, but it is not the same track as the one being played above. It would be nice if you could tell me the right one. If not, thanks for trying.
His score for Passion of the Christ is a masterpiece - but I wasn't that impressed by the other scores... and to call the score for Cutthroat Island is an EPIC exaggeration!!!
Do you have the original soundtrack of I Know What You Did Last Summer? Would you mind sharing it, please? I'd like to buy it but I don't find it anywhere. :(
So great!! But there´s one great track missing - even if the movie might be a piece of crap - but the score for "Evan Almighty" - track: "The Ark Theme" is so beautiful!! Maybe you could post this track, too, if you got the soundtrack??!! Would be great!!
OMG! He did 'The Emperor's New Groove'?? LOL! I love that movie! And 'The Passion of the Christ' has one of the best soundtracks ever. Even if you never see the movie, the music is so worth listening to :)
"Cutthroat Island" is pretty awesome. I also enjoy his "Atlantis" and "Treasure Planet" scores; as well as his "Bruce Almighty" and "Evan Almighty" stuff. Thanks for doing this. I'm hooked.
his gretatest work is Cutthroat Island :D :D :D :D :D.

Zathura's track sounds like something out of "Hook," and isn't that James Horner? Hmmm.. O_o But I do love John Debney anyway
Amber474 11 months ago
@Amber474 John Williams composed Hook.

I stand corrected :P

Oh my God.Did anyone realize that many of his themes are just too much similiar to more famous soundtracks?
Let´s check it out.
Cats&Dogs=Mission Impossible
Zathura=Star wars-just a little bit but still there´re similiarities
SeaQuest=Star wars! -this is unquestionably stolen from John Williams
Sorry to say this but John Debney is just a bad copy of John Williams and other more famous composers.
Anyway The Emperror´s new groove is a good one

Man, this guy is quite versatile. He's pretty much covered every single type of music.
And, whether you like "The Passion of the Christ" or not, you can't deny that it had an amazing score!
Hope I'm sure his score for "Iron Man 2" is going to be amazing!

Agreed, by now, no soundtrack can equal nor surpass or come close to that of the passion.

John Debney is a good composer, I don't doubt his talent. There's only two problems I have with him.
1. He uses using too much choir in certain scores. He keeps putting them in places where they're not really needed.
2. At times it sounds like he's trying a bit too hard to be like John Williams.
Other than that, my favorite of his scores is Cutthroat Island! 5 Stars!

Wait, you forgot the princess diaries score! that was John's work too and it was amazing!

Doesn't "Hocus Pocus" sound a little like "The Batman" theme by Danny Elfman? Still great, though.

The piece used was from the very end of "It's Only Gold/End Credits".
In response to the comment about that music in the LXG trailer, I believe that was an edited track.
