Actually 600 Irish troops will be out there by December me included aswell as 60 Dutch marines who will conduct recconasince. All Irish troops will be from the 97th infantry battalion. We are out there for 12 months then there will be a diz by the Government wether to stay out there or come home. We are out there to protect the civilians and the refugee's from the Chadian rebels and the war that is just across the border in neighboring Darfur.

OK, so in my view, the theatres on earth that NEED help are Ivory Coast, Darfur, Afghanistan, and now Chad. There are French foriegn legion troops in Ivory Coast, 1,400 troops in Chad, what about Darfur? Are any U.N. or E.U. troops present?

well i know for a fact that there are strictly irish & scottish regiemts IN the british military. those units consist of men from ireland and scotland, they make up like 1/3 or the british military. do the north irish have there own military force seperate from the brits?

no but the "Irish regiments" in the british army are actually made up of british settlers (loyalists) from north Ireland. Most Irish people from the north join the Irish Army
