I've been looking for this song for 29 years lol ... Heard it on "The Quake" in San Francisco for a while, remembered the name, and could never find it in a store. Since then, I've vaguely remembered that someone named Anne Clark had some good song that I liked but I forgot the name. Looked up Anne on Wikipedia and saw Hope Road in the list of singles she's done. That's the song! And then on to YouTube. Thank you, YouTube!
After all these years I know this song/poem still by heart. Thank god I've got this album still on lp (vinyl), but I'd love to have it on cd. Till then I can enjoy this on my computer here. Thanks for posting!
They played this song on the MOD stations in the 80's. It was the first time I heard the poetry style of music put to a melody. I recorded it off the radio back when you used to do that because we didn't have downloads. lol Back then it was hard to get a song you liked. No internet browsing to buy it online. You just had to hope the record store had it or you would record from the radio on to a tape.
Wow... Couldn't find it anywhere, but here it is! It appears that The Quake FM99 is one of the few stations that played this, judging from the disproportionately high number of people referencing The Quake here. it's a rare song where you can actually hear the singer's soul, but Anne Clark created a keeper here. Thanks for posting it!
I remember hearing it on The Quake, too. The Quake is without a doubt the only commercial station in the Bay Area that played the song. I think heard it a time or two on one of the great non-commercial college stations we have in the area, too. Thanks to Solitudinarian and Youtube for keeping the good old songs alive.
@SPOON007a Ok that was the station I heard it on. Although I didn't start listening to that station unitl it became Live 105. I heard some people say the station was better when it was the Quake. Is that true or was it about the same?
@kungfooed In my opinion it was better than Live105fm, It was the first station of its kind in the bay area in my opinion Live 105fm at times came a close second.

I first heard this on "The Quake" as well. I found an import copy of the CD "Hopeless Cases" a few years later and bought it. Great song.
