Where does one check in? Is there anything which wasn't perfect under his magical mallets?! He left too early, imagine what all he would have done. RIP Senor Tjader.
"Mambo Inn" is a classic tune that is an under recorded standard. Perfect material under Tjaders mallets. Besides this version and the much later Geroge Benson one few others have risen to prominence. Nice post.
@klavier1us RenéTouzet's version, for instance. Tjäder is for certain on vibes on Shearing's version and the vibist on Touzet's version sounds a hell of a lot like Tjäder. IMO, Benson's version doesn't kick much ass. But, different strokes for different folks.
Love all Cal Tjader music. He and Clare Fischer laid new groundwork.

Emil Richards was the vibes player with George Shearing. Tjader really understood the clave.

Great stuff. The only other version I've heard was Grant Green's on "The Latin Bit."

Check out the George Shearing version, which is on Youtube.

@ljliljohn The George Shearing version of "Mambo Inn" was put in by ramoburg. I like this one more than the Tjader version.

Cal Tjader's version has more of that "old school" feeling.
The outro is just brilliant.
