  • I really hope that dosn't happen, I buy several used games

  • I know until it is confirmed or denied we can only speculate. However what about the single Mother whose kid wants a game and she can't afford $60? Or the kid who needs cash he won't be able to trade his games in.

Second hand licensed stores like GAMESTATION, EbGames, Gamestop would be hit hard. Best Buy would lose a good amount of money as would FYE ETC It's like saying unless you want to wait a few months til the game goes on you better spend $60 ha ha ha

  • You know there are people who buy games, finish them then move on. This is just another middle finger to the consumer. We already get pamphlets for manuals, we already had those eco cases which I might add ruined a few cd's and back inserts.

Now I don't buy used games and I learned why I don't. However there are people who don't even want to waste a few seconds opening the wrap and yes Microsoft with that annoying label on the side! This is bad business.

  • The environmental argument, if taken up by Microsoft and the games developers - gives them the justification for only providing games as downloads. No more collectable physical objects, no more shiny manuals.

This would be really sad and if it happens I'll not be getting the next gen, and concentrate instead on building up my retro collection.

  • @zakabamzam

If tat day comes I will walk away from current gen alltogether!

  • DAMN! lawnboy, ur vids are startin to pick up quite alot if views recently...lol u could be on the most viewed page soon!

  • @bladebison

    Thanks man

  • @lawnboyspost1975 I read an article online somewhere that said the new games would have a code and if the game was resold the code, or a new code, could be reactivated for a fee. So at least a second owner could play the game but they would have to pay money to do it there by giving the original game developers more money by charging for a second party to play the game, which I think is what they want. I am not saying it is right or wrong I am just telling you what I read.

  • @65Gamerguy

Either way its still a sad day for gaming!

  • You make a good point Dave, it could just be a publicity stunt or Microsoft checking it out, guess we will have to wait and see.

  • @kazxena

Tis a shit ton of free publicity and a great way to get one over on Sony!

  • hello lawnboyspost1975 it me simonpqpqpqpqpt i subbed u again on my new channel because i find you so interesting please check out my new channel i want to here what u think and sub if you want, thanks friend

  • @MrSimonminecraft

    Checked it out and subbed

  • I do not think that this rumor will end up true, there is just too many negatives to it. On top of that I would think the publishers would be more about this than Microsoft. As long as Microsoft has people buying the systems along with the DLC, Live subscriptions, ect. They will be happy.

  • Chucking games away? Something I don't believe I've ever done, unless they were non-functioning (and I don't recall too many of those). I hope these rumours *are* bollocks because, well, killing the 2nd hand games market is akin to fascism, at least in my mind. Replay value will completely die out and we'll have a bunch of pop-culture-leeching pieces of one-play cack. Ahh, the future truly is bright! :)

  • @Hindleyak

So do I cos the way it looks like we're heading is not a place I want any part of!

  • I think it's just that, a rumor. No company could be that stupid and willing to commit corporate suicide. Or could they? ;-)

  • @ElektraKnight

    I hope it is

  • holy fucksticks i hadnt even heard of this rumour! so havnt they outright denied it yet? if not, thats shady as hell.

it would kill a platform. yea, i wouldnt touch it with a barge pole.

of course, "pre owned lock out" is utterly synomonous with "download only".. which is more likely.. and download only gets round the green problem.

but the mere suggestion is disgraceful, you're right. imagine if CD players only played brand new bought from HMV discs!

    insane.

  • @shenmueso

    Great analogy

  • If its DLC only at all that malarkey i wont be buying one i would to prefer to buy a copy of "Topper" The environmental aspect is interesting though, but of course that's not there motivation. Interesting stuff man :)

  • @adfot1

    Thanks man

  • I doubt this is true but I agree with you 100% Your spot on with your opinion mate!

  • @KeruptKiller

    Thanks man

  • If this is true, which i highly doubt it is... I think the most likely is an extension of what's happening now with the BS online passes, a code to activate the game and pre-owned game purchasers have to pay 800msp or whatever for a 2nd owner code, but then you'd have to have an Xbox live account to do that..hmmm.

  • @TheNooch79

If not the next generation it will be here at some point for sure!

  • I was going to leave a big ass rant but then realised you pretty much nailed everything I wanted to say on the matter anyhows. I just feel that MS are trying to alienate us rather than attract us to there future console. If this rumour is true then I hope Sony capitalise on it & the new Xbox flops as much I'd hate to see that its what these money grabbers need. But like you & others have rightly said even if we refuse to buy it the newer generation of gamers will still fork out for it.

  • @shockz16

If this happens I', gonna throw myself retro 100%

  • and wat would happen if your xboxs brakes do u have to by a hole new set of games lol

  • @SuperBadboybamford

    Good point!

  • It is... But there are games like that now, though with Keys. Once the code is used on a computer, most computer games are junk... Which is why i usually don't buy computer games.

Thanks for addressing this, my sister said someone told her this and i thought they were pulling her leg since i hadn't heard it myself(though i haven't been on message boards or game sites in a while just getting some info here on youtube).

  • @MasochistMouse

I did't realised that we had hit this point on PC already? The future is coming and its scary!

  • @lawnboyspost1975 Yeah, i hate the keys though there's probably ways around them on offline games...

Of course it will suck, and be their downfall if they decide to add these chips to the next xbox or any console games really.

  • speaking of environmental gaming, did you see how games are starting to make it so that you can never erase your game, like, you can never erase your file and start over? that makes it so people won't buy it used because they can't start their own game. So it discourages used game sales, so that the companies making the game can make more money cuz it forces ppl to buy it new. what do you think of that?

  • @ZeavoTown

I think that is discracefull, I get that these people are here to make money but when you shit on the people who put you where you are in te first place its JUST wrong! At some point in the future I can honestly see myself walking away totally from current gen gaming!

  • I cant see this happening with the next Xbox, maybe in another 7 to 10 years time, but not on the next generation. Although, MS are getting pretty arogent these days and ignoring their user base, so they could take that step, think things are more likely to go the way of digital only tbh.

Just look at the PSPGo, that thing was a total disaster.

  • @Retrosofer

At some point it will happen and when that day comes I will walk away from current gen alltogether!

  • I think there is some truth in this. MS ain't that stupid to totally lock out secondhand.

My guess is they will offer developers a buy in to a method of linking a game to a user account that can be transfered at a cost.

They will be normalising secondhand sales for the developers of Xbox games while getting a cut of the secondhand business.

The best conspiracies always have a gain of truth.

  • @BelindaSueFox

If this is the route they wanna go I still think it reals of shitting on the people who put them where they are!

  • Im really glad you brought up the environmental aspect of this.I buy 90% of my games used not only because they are cheaper but because I can play a game that is just is good as a new one with out all the downsides from an environmental point of view. I own an original xbox that I got a few years back, but I dont own a 360 and I dont plan on buying a 720 or whatever. I have been considering this gen to be my last modern gen and focus on retro games more, plue I dont like the way gaming is going.

  • @gabbogabbo

I'm not even that green a person but from a sheer point of waste if this happens then it would be a disgrace!

  • Your wrong Dave i have one and it doesn't play second hand games lol :)

  • @darrenwalshsock

    Ha Ha

  • I already have this problem with some PC games I bought which activate on Steam. Can't sell them since I already activated them on Steam, the discs are just worthless to anyone now. If only they allowed deactivation which would remove the game from your account and delete it, so you could re-sell the game...

  • @shaurz

I never realised it was that bad on PC already?

  • Everyone check out mrsimonminecraft he rocks

  • Welcome to the life of a PC gamer.

  • @WusScosS

The future is here and its on PC, sad day indeed!

  • Nah, won't happen. No way. This is obviously the work of some fanboys. I don't think Microsoft wants publicity that badly. As for making it so that physical media only works on one console, it would be a disaster for them. Think about it, GameStop wouldn't carry their games, and Sony would make damn sure to keep it off their console. Microsoft's video game branch would be ruined. The only way this would make sense is if the next batch of consoles went download only, and even then it would suck.

  • @castlevania78

I really hope you are right mate!

  • Yes getting rid of 2nd hand games, totally ignores how 99% of the consumers work. Those totally engrossed can go through a new release game in days, they then count on trading that game in to make their next purchase a little less.

Let alone the space issues, not everyone has the space to store everything they buy & use (although the game companies arguments here may be an online only delivery model, but that destroys the retailers - dare they go there?)

  • @electricadventures

I honestly believe this is the death of gaming as we know it and if this path comes true then its game ove for me and the next gen of systems!

  • Unless they come too e3 and show the the specs or even a prototype of the console and announce some amazing launch games. I doubt that will happen as Don Mattrick is shit and they need to reshuffle the xbox team imo.

  • Sorry for the long response lol but got a lot going through my head on this one. I have said already that i'll get a wii u day one hopefully. PS4 is a definite day one purchase. However new xbox i'm gonna wait and see, it's all about software as they haven't proven too me they are on the right track recently. I'm still dissapointed at the lack of new IP'S. They are too hung up on Kinect atm to make me want to buy a new xbox.

  • However I don't really trade that many games so it wouldn't effect me all that much. What I do think though is what about after the next gen has ended and I want to go back and pick up games that I wasn't interested in before but want to buy cheap? If ebay is anything to go buy then buying a sealed copy will be too expensive because sellers will know they are in massive demand due to the reg code. And of course we won't be able to buy a 2nd hand copy.

  • I think a reg code would be the logical way to implement the restriction. I would have to say though the only true solution would be for gamers to vote with their wallets and not buy the new xbox. Of course that will not happen because we are gamers and we'll bitch about it but ultimately cave in and buy the console. I'm still on the fence as to whether i'd buy one if the rumour is true. Not being able to trade games is an issue and something that makes me think I wouldn't buy the xbox.

  • @Snestastic I've been over this with Darren. You can't "vote with your wallet". It's pretty much the stupidest thing you can do. You need to put an "X" on the desired choice. Putting your wallet in the ballot box is mental. For all you know, due to security you wouldn't get it back for days. Duh!

  • @lakepalmer Darren from retro gamer? :)

  • @darrenwalshsock You know I mean you sweet cheeks. *winks, blows kiss

  • I've been thinking about this one the last few days Dave. You make a good point, as the saying goe's No publicity is bad publicity. It could well be MS testing the water, makes perfect sense. I'll be interested if it's true to see how it works, can't see it being done via the net and registering the game too your account. Reason being that we can disconnect the xbox from the net plus there are people out there with no internet connection at all. That leaves the option of a reg code.

  • @Snestastic

There are so many things wrong with this direction if its true and the funny thing is literally 2 mins after making the video another 50 or so more arguments popped into my head. Many of them are what you have mentioned, I'm really not that interested in the PS4 so if this is how the future is shaping up I think I may just turn my back on it and throw myself 100% into retro!

  • @lawnboyspost1975 1st off congrats for reading my comments Dave I had a lot too say for a change lol :) I said in one of my vids a while ago now that I think if it's done right the Wii U could be the console to own next gen and i'm gonna stand by that. I'll buy a PS4 and wait and see with the 720 but I honestly think Nintendo have the opportunity to be the no.1 console again not just on a business front :)

  • Thing is, new xbox will be the 360. Because if you go the opposite of 360 you've got err 360 again. Like if they had called it the Xbox 100% they couldn't bring out a new one. They should have called it Xbox More. Because it can then move on properly. The Even More and the Even More Than That could follow. Stupid gamests

  • bad move on there part if they go though with this plan if its for real

  • @Sinistersirenshow

    Agreed!

  • HEY HEY nice intro there hommie whatsssssss up nice video stay up

  • @Str8UpReviews

Thanks man, Adam from the Adam and Des show wrote it for me.

  • your intro is awesome. REALLY catchy song!

  • @siccooper

    Thank you sir!

  • If that rumor, turn out to be more then just a rumor? Then the CEO needs to be fired, because no one will go for that!! These stupid ways of trying to control copyright contents are out of control and really does nothing to stop piracy anyways. It just pure greed at this point, especially at the prices they charge for some of these games and nothing creative has really come out, just shooters or remake of PC titles. Come out with different types of games already!!

  • @RetroPCDOS

    Or shot!

  • Comment removed

  • The "no used games" thing has caused me to back away from a lot of things. Capcom tried this with that Resident Evil game for 3DS too. I hope to God this is just a rumor otherwise it will just add to my reasons for really not giving a crap about the next generation of gaming. I already have said that I am not interested in the next round of systems and they're not giving me any reasons to be as of yet!

  • @neojake999gamer

I'm if I'm honest am starting to lose all interest in the next round of systems also!

  • this may seem a bit strange coming from someone who has never traded in or sold any of his games ever, but if these companies start doing this lockout crap I will Not buy anything from them ever again!!! on a personal note i really dont like the way the future of gaming is starting to look. my last Consoles just might be 360 and ps3. i really need to make video responses to your Q's because i can ramble on about this....lol

  • @Imtherealsaturnsonic

You've never traded or sold? Dude how big is your closet? lol

  • Continued: Maybe they can get away with this load of bull with the younger generation of gamers, but those of us who remember a better time will be faced with a tough decision about our own future in gaming.

  • I have never felt such negativity and disconnect between the gaming community and the corporations that used to provide us with innovative consoles and imaginative, well designed games. I am reaching a breaking point where I want to say "thanks for the fond memories, good luck to you in the future" It is absurd for corporations to suggest this, or any of the other money hungry schemes they cooked up with this generation of consoles.

  • @kristioconnell311 I think what you should do is pop out, buy some colouring books and pens. With this, colour (color (lol)) in the pictures, then pop out again. Buy some frames to suit, and mount your newly created art work! If you ventured "outside the lines" that's okay. Life is for sometimes "being a bit crazy". Best wishes, Den

  • @kristioconnell311

I know eh? How disconnected have they become from the people who made them their money in the first place, I get that they are here to make money but I always believe that its just plane stupid to shit on you customer base as they will just go some where else. In my case 100% back into retro gaming!

  • If this is true everyone will just go over to PS. As I said in my video if this is true than I am not going to be getting the new X-Box.

  • @themetalgod66683

I'll prob turn away from both systems and just retro

  • Did the guy that made those awful decisions for netflix get a job at microsoft? If that happend, it would spell the end of xbox. PS 4 people must be laughing thier asses off.

  • @tim26847

Its looking like he did! ;0)

  • Yeah I read this rumour the other day and if it is true then it's a daft move. Times change and we are all guilty of looking at things with our rose-tinted glasses but quite frankly Dave the '720' won't be for me - i've personally been pushed as far as I can go with unfinished games, all-too similar releases, countless sequels (and then some) and money seeking DLC.......

However, shove a 16-bit computer infront of me with a few old mags, some games and a Zipstick and i'm as happy as Larry :)

  • @bluetonic78

If this is the way we are going then I can see myself turning away from the new Gen and just throwing myself 100% into retro!

  • I wasen't planning on getting an XBox 720 in the first place, but it's rather dumb idea... for both Sony and Microsoft to do it. Used games and price cuts are the only reason I own most of my games...

  • @Phazonhunter8

    Me too!

  • screw it i'm going to plug in my NES

  • @henryblazer20

    Good man!

  • So, if the rumours of the 720 are correct and become fact, I will probably not buy the 720. Not that I give a shit about second hand games, I never sell mine and almost never buy second hand unless I have to. But to have to rely on someone else for me to play my game is unacceptable. If I wanted that, I would buy them on the PC, cheaper too. I have all the current gen consoles and planning to do the same for the next, unless they do something stupid such as this.

  • @Trusteft

Isn't PC gaming practically there now and that you can only install some games a certain amount of times, even when its on the same machine?

  • @lawnboyspost1975 It's here on PCs for many AAA (and I use the term just for the amount of production money) titles. But, there are still plenty of publishers who don't require you to go online even once after you download the game. You can back it up and never care for internet even years later. Games from MatrixGames, Shrapnel games, etc. There are even dedicated stores outside of the publishers who do that. Gog dot com, Gamersgate has plenty of DRM free titles, etc.

  • I stopped buying most PC games due to the online requirement/drm. I still, rarely, buy some drm protected games that are PC exclusive and I want very much, but even then, up to a point. For example I am never going to buy an EA/Origin game, or Ubisoft with their own little scheme. I focus on DRM free PC games. For those that are not drm free, I get them when available on the consoles because of the freedom, not to sell, but to own and not rely on a damn server being online years down the line

  • I came to the same conclusion about people throwing away the games, which would kill the history of the system in the future. Also what happens if your console breaks or gets stolen? You couldn't play your games on the replacement. And most importantly, what happens when the games go out of print? You will have no way of getting games for the console unless you want to pay outrageous prices for sealed games. I'd like to think this is nothing more than a rumor.

  • @SuperBeardedGamer

I really do hope it is nothing more than a rumour cos if it ain't then thats gaming killed for me!

  • What if your "720" were to have problems like the 360 did would all your games go bad too?No way they are going to do this if they did then Sony would not and it will kill Microsofts new console.

  • @jjeepster02

    Thats a very good point!

  • I recenly asked you about this on your 'give the finger to digital' video. Not sure if you've even seen the question or not yet, but I guess this video just gave me my answer :) You put forward some interesting perspectives. Thanks

  • @NigzThaBoss

Sorry mate I must have missed that comment, hope this answered it for you?

  • What I can say is that no one has considered what type of technology the new console may have. It may not even possess a disc drive to play an old XBOX360 game. Their competitor, Sony has BR technology that allows them to put so much content on a single disc. What if the new Microsoft console is only uses a Cloud for storage. Sure game collectors may be angry but it they have groundbreaking titles, people may consider purchasing the console. I think it's premature to assume anything right now.

  • @segagenesis1989: Cloud game streaming is a long way from reality. Even though 50-100MB is common in europe because of condensed population, the major of people in North America are stuck with 10MB or below bandwidth, and that won't fly with parents when their kid caps off the entire house holds bandwidth to play games all the time. OnLive receieved a lot of bad publicity for being so laggy for people.

  • @segagenesis1989

I got to say even when they unveil the new tech, I think I may just head backwards and throw my self 100% into Retro, simply cos I really don't like where the Digital age is going!

  • I'm glad someone looked at this rumor as a possible marketing hype to get people talking about their product. I personally can't see this as being true. Even if it were, that won't stop people from modding their systems. The current reset glitch hack for 360 circumvents any future MS patching from fixing using pirated games, and that would be more complicated from unlocking a title that wasn't "new".

  • @Paperclown

I really do think its either Microsoft getting some free hype over the PS4 or simply testing the water!

  • I'm not sure yet, but I may have a perspective on this one that nobody has discussed yet. I need to do a bit of research first (since I only do retro games), but I may have to post a response to this.

  • @edt1138

Would love to hear your perspective mate!

  • @lawnboyspost1975 It turns out that I may have misunderstood the way things work, and my friend was kind enough to correct me before I made a fool out of myself.
