Also i was looking to buy the book for the force which is Ostfront but i noticed there was a FoW book called Stalingrad so i was wondering which one i should use
The Ostfront book covers a much wider range of the Eastern Front but still includes army lists that you can use for the battle of Stalingrad so, I'd probably buy that one if I were you because it will let you play games set in other areas too.
Once you have the figures glued to the base, glue small rocks and pieces of crumbled cork to the base around the feet of the figures. After the glue has dried cover the base (including the rocks etc) with watered-down Elmer's Wood Filler. When that's completely dried, paint the base black and then dry-brush it with progressively lighter shades of gray.
It sounds like a lot of work but be patient and careful and it'll look good.
