These videos are wonderful!!! Bring back alot of memories. I watched it for a long time. But I really enjoyed them the best with Steve and Betty Jo. I thought they were a cute couple, and thought they had a great chemistry between them. You could tell they were in love, I was sad to hear they divorced. I liked June Lockhart when she joined the show, but I honestly feel she couldn't come close to replacing Benaderet. She potrayed the best mom. Thanks for posting these wonderful momories
I wonder if this moment surprised some viewers when it first aired. What I mean is, who'd a thought that an actress who SPOKE with such a young girl voice could sing with such a low alto, or even contralto voice range? But hey, remember Gomer Pyle's country hayseed twang( of course Jim Nabors didn't REALLY talk like that) and then his deep baritone? It's almost a variation on that matter.
Wow! I'm glad that during this period, that Linda got to sing some solos. Never knew she could sing like that! Maybe that's why the girls sang so well together. Linda's deep rich alto, blended well with Meredith's mezzo-soprano range, though I'm not sure what range Lori had as she never sang solo But when all three snag together it was heaven scent! Sort of like Hooterville's own version of the Lennon sisters.
@cmulwee001 I did try doing a search, but haven't found out anything yet, so if anyone knows, I'd sure like to know the answer to that as well. Including who originally performed it. Yep.
I just found out it originated from an obscure Broadway Play called "Little Jesse James". It was written in 1923, Harlan Thompson and Harry Archer. On a related topic I still think that that the wonderful "Hello World" song heard in "Hawaii Calling" is from a much earlier time. Sure it became "their" (Steve and Betty Jo's) song during their Honeymoon, and in other scenes with the couple, But it was used as background music since the earliest days of the series, long before Steve.
@cmulwee001 Makes me miss my mother a bit. She'd have had the answer a long time ago. Hey Mom? If you're inclined to send a message down with the answer, we'd all sure appreciate it. Thanks.
@1964nickel ...arrived in season 4. So it, too, probably was a really old song even then, that the producers bought the rights to use. It sounds like something you might hear in a Fred Astaire/Ginger Rogers flick.
I'm almost certain that I've heard the Hello World song, in some old movie long before "PJ" was ever a concept.
@slhc56 They're my favorites as well. It's why I only have these later seasons. Wish I had more of the early ones. The old black and white's weren't rerun the first time 'round, and since those early reruns are what really hooked me, I feel kind of deprived. :-} Well, maybe not. The few from season 1 I've seen are an eye opener. Especially Billie Jo. Gunilla something, come on guys, someone remembers her last name, surely.She was both boy crazy and intelligent. A dangerous combination.
Gunilla Hutton was actually the second Billie Jo. Her version of the eldest Bradley girl was very much like the first Billie, Jeannine Riley. She even looked like she could be Jeannine sister. Both completely different from Meredith MacRae's version. Gunilla and Jeannie portrayed Billie as a ditzy "dumb blonde" who rather chase boys than sing songs. After Meredith took over, Billie became the "straight girl" who was more keen on pursuing music and singing, than flirting with boys.
It seems that once Kate was off the show( Bea Benaderet had died), and despite Edgar Buchanan and now June Lockhart having top billing,Steve and Betty Jo became the central characters. At least that's how it seems to me. Unlike Billie and Bobbie Jo, who sometimes were didn't appear in certain episodes, Steve and Betty were NEVER absent, and they were now the lead characters.
@cmulwee001 I'm sure that's why I remember them more than anyone else - my age don't you know. Although I never really got used to seeing Mrs. Robinson from "Lost In Space" in Hooterville. ;-}

where did this "I Love You Song" originate? I believe it's a '30's or '40's song. Correct?
