Wow he is so well spoken i feel like Dominicans are ill represented in American society with our music, crimes, and everything else. I'm glad we have a Dominican who is respected and well known for his wisdom and amazing writing. Awesome beautiful, makes you think a lot.
I really like his answer about hypermasculinity- have the numbers in battered women's shelters decreased? Have the number of rapes decreased? Has abuse and discrimination against women changed? Amen. That IS the question.
One of the best books I've ever read. It's leanings towards mysticism, history, modern culture profundity and abstraction as well its ability to create real characters who are both in and out of the world in which they inhabit is more than amazing. His pen is both subtle in it's detail and epic in its story telling.
I just want to know why there are so many individuals that despise Diaz because of his fiction and his depiction of Dominican culture? If you're reading this in college, I think that it's certainly at your benefit. I read this book outside of the classroom and I've enjoyed all of this author's writings. His stories have a realness about them that just makes everything you read fabulously enlightening.

I hate this guy. This is a TRASH CAN BOOK I have to read at BMCC. I HATE THIS BOOK. I DESPISE THIS TRASH. I AM THROWING THIS BOOK IN THE GARBAGE AND TELLING EVERYZONE THIS IS a by product of college degrees. THIS IS WASTE OF MOENY.
@tribeofgaul U are clearly titled to your own opinion, as i am clearly entitled to mine, so let me start out by saying that maybe you should have kept ur opinion to urself, not because u dont have the right to voice ur opinion, but rather because you remove all doubt as to why you are attending community college. And what exactly do you mean by, "this is a by product of college degrees" what does that mean?Let me translate, his vernacular and complex references were too much for u to understand
I guess the interview was successful because I don't usually watch the entire thing. The interviewer, however, seemed a bit condescending and he was taking things out of context to make them sound bad. All in all, it was an entertaining witty banter.

This guy seems really cool, but I detect very socialist undertones with what he says. He understands that poverty brings many of these problems, but I fear he doesn't realize capitalism and free markets are what bring people out of poverty.
And I think he may be using misleading statistics. While the number or rapes, women in homes, ect may be the same, but if the population is larger, the situation is getting better because proportionally it is improving.
whatever man. Jian Ghomeshi is talented and keeps up pace with Diaz who is a genius. In any case, you can see Diaz is pleased judging by his smile. A successful interview I would say.
It's funny the way is different parsonalities, the one from his own history and the one devloped in academia, are constantly mixing together in what he says and how he says.
Diaz totally calls him out at the end for making that quote up or at least for not doing his research correctly and providing a source. Nice one, interviewer.
@thc6422 if you watch the video from the Sydney Writers Conference, Diaz does actually refer to Oscar as a "non-American" character. The interviewer just couldn't remember where it was from.
Me fascina que haigan subido este video. Gracias por compartir con el mundo!

This was good. I don't like when the interview is either too tense or too buddy-buddy. They challenged each other.
