This is a fighting between those two from SDF Macross series, which was in US named Robotech... it is from the first series.
>> First Robotech is only a translated Macross. <<
Next two series of Robotech are quite different, and was made in US, because maker was obligated to have 3 series to be put on air. So You can actually tell that Robotech is a spin off or rather a variation based on Macross universe.
So this is from Macross/Robotech first series, both.
@kla7672 I don't understand why there are still some fellas keep mixing up the original Macross saga with other Macross canons like Macross Frontier, SDF Macross DYRL? and worse still the unrelated story canon Robotech. Please... check with wikipedia so as to get the facts straight. If u need to check the animes, I recommend u download them via BAKABT website. They have high-quality torrents mostly about this anime saga. It will help u alot. :Doh yeah, don't forget to seed accordingly too.
@kla7672 Across is a Secret Organization with aims to take over the world, but they felt it wise to start small-scale and take the city first because they only have 3-5 members, depending on if you read it or watched it and if Menchi counts as a member. Why are we bringing up Excel Saga in a Robotech/Macross video?
@Diveyl How do you know they didn't pull the clips from Robotech episodes? If you are going to fool yourselves into believing they're completely different, then that matters. If the clips were pulled from Robotech files, then it's technically Robotech. And seriously, guys, the first series of both is the same thing except the Robotech definition of Protoculture is stupid and makes everything confusing.
Hollywood has been ripping off anime for years! 3 good examples:
Surrogates: a watered down version of Ghost in the shell. Remember that scene from GITS where she looses an arm..
The day the earth stood still: Has anyone ever seen Turn A Gundam's Butterfly attack
The Aforementioned Stealth: 'ahem' a 'small' budget Macross Plus anyone.
I have seen side by side coomparisons of the 2 and Macross is WAY better. Remember Robotech was made for kids. HG are some hoes. Go do a sequel to Chaka Zulu!
robotech was not made for kids. i saw it in the 80s and people died in the series. it was one of the first to show real consequance in us anime. get facts straight first, i agree with you in theory, but get facts straight first.
I KNOW it wasn't made for kids and KNEW it wasn't made for kids when they aired it on the kids block on the local station back in the 80's. Me, My older brother (who was in his 20's at the time) AND MY MOTHER watched it. They didn't watch any other 'cartoons'!
well, in your post directly below this, you said robotech was made for kids. i just disagree with that, thats all, it's no big deal. i'm a fan and happy about being one. if people REALLY want something to argue about, let's take bets right here and now on how badly the HYPERION movie is going to be. seriously, hollywoods attempting to mash two great sci fi books into one 2 hr or so movie (live action at that)
HELL NO! I have read a part of the synapsis and this is a big mistake! It reminds me of Dune in scope and they still haven't got that right (the sci-fi mini series was ok) Hyperion should be made into an expensive Mini-series at the most...not a movie, better yet just leave it alone because the average movie goer isn't that bright...Counter bet...when and if they decide to make a Ringworld movie it will do better better than Hyperion. Big Dumb Object movies tend to do better, when they make them
Sir, are you a fool?! Surrogates is based off of the comic book of the same name, it doesn't take a genius to figure that out (plus if you've actually READ the comic, you won't see that many similaritys to GITS). The Day the Earth Stood Still is a REMAKE of (guess what): The Day the Earth Stood Still (lol, I KNOW RIGHT!!!), which predates the first Gundam anime by a good 20 years. You are either a truly epic troll, or a foolish, FOOLISH weaboo.
"Stealth" Funny I didn't see any Mile long transforming battle ships in stealth nor did I see transforming fighter planes, sentient computer viruses, space fold jumps, or two rival pilots competing on two different development teams in the same experimental fighter program.
2. In the original The Day the Earth stood still there were no -NANO machines
3. Who were they fighting in Half of STEALTH and All of Macross Plus an AI. You had three friends.
4. Oh heres another one. I read alot Have you seen Knowing...Watered down version of Greg Bear's Forge of God.
With that said Of course there won't be mile long ships or Transforming planes unless these people want LAWSUITS. You see the elements though...crystal clear
Also what I meant about Robotech was that ROBOTECH was made for kids...MACROSS was made for everybody...ROBOTECH was Marketed to Kids SOLELY BECAUSE IT WAS A CARTOON. There were other cartoons at the time that were not really for kids either Robotech was a WAR story were the other shows were more adventure, but people still got bumped off in all of them. Who remembers Tranzor z. with the giant girl robot that had the titty rockets? It cam on before robotech here
"3. Who were they fighting in Half of STEALTH and All of Macross Plus an AI. You had three friends." Well then I guess I robot is also a ripoff of Macross Plus because they do the same thing, fight a corrupted AI. The only time they are fighting the AI in MAcross Plus is for about the last half of the third episode!
@brymasters76 I like your points but the last one was "Shaka" Zulu. I know this cause I was forced to watch it growing up....and Robotech was edited for kids to watch it and Yeah Macross was and is still better.
that was in Macross "Do you remember love" version. This is from Robotech,(a watered down version of the original macross anime) So that part of the fight isn't here.
@KellerDweller82 I personally have found that all mech battle sequences are just AMAZING when paired with some heavy southern rock, like "Train Train" by Blackfoot. It just works!!
@KellerDweller82 please DONT drag rap into this Mainstream music destroyed what hip hop really is. hip hop is not what u see on the tv or hear on the radio
But if you ask me, if Roy didn't die then I'm sure the Max and Milia marriage would have never happened.
I'm pretty sure if Roy wasn't distracted by their fight or went and got medical attention, then Milia wouldn't have gotten back to Laplamiz fleet in one piece.
Yeah I never understood why Roy didn't go to the hospital. Maybe he figured his wounds were fatal and wanted to spend his last moments with his woman...getting singed by a lazer from a mech sucks I am surprised he was even able to fly Skull One into the hangar...Then again if you saw DYRL Milia took out an entire Zentradi squadron including several power armors by herself. Don't piss her off!
well what really happend to roy was left out of the edided out for the american version of macross was that his valkrie took some hits from a zentradi fighter pod, those fighters also carry missiles one of them was a near miss, the sharpanel from the missile killed roy,or the fact that he did'nt go to the sickbay when ordered
Point is..... You haven't been appointed LORD OF ANIME! LOL. Robotech obviously has had some affect - 25 years later its STILL MAKING MONEY. You can't say that about the other examples you mentioned. I think the story still resonates. I hate people who think that anime is only about the pictures. It's like going to the movies and turning off the sound. 1/2 the experience. I believe in the purity of anime, but to slam something simply because the way it looks is just stupid.
The point is: Only those who think Robotech is good are some blind biased fans that watched it as a child. I really doubt Robotech Shadow Crapiness can attract new people to become a fan. Or even the older series, today with internet anyone can figure out the crap Rt is.
The original is better because the animation actually matches the story.
Without other show mechas/characters robotech is nothing.
25 years later we're still talking about it and it's still a licensing cash cow for Harmony Gold and more recently ADV and even discussion of a live action movie - 25 years later. LOL! Fine it's crap, but this crap is making a lot of people rich.. and laughing at self-proclaimed "purist" all the way to the bank.
Cash cow? I really doubt! The live action is there just because of the sucess of Transformers. And guess what most of the fans want??? Macross characters and valkyries. But they don't have the rights over those designs. And i really doubt Kawamori would do any designs for them after all the shit they have done to his baby.
Whoever buys Robotech stuff are just few hardcore fanboys.
Like i said. Without other shows characters and robots Robocrap has nothing.
There's a reason why Kawamori is fighting over those rights - and it's not just to feel good. Yes, cash cow - still a HUGE draw at conventions on its own right. But again, how would you know that since you don't pay attention anyway.
Just because there are some nuts hardcore fans doesn't mean it is a HUGE chash cow.
If it is really that good, why they had to hire a poor quality korean animation studio for Shadow Crap, instead of a japanese high quality one????
Just because they had stored 300 toys and it sold out doesn't mean Robocrap is big.
Look at Macross Frontier, it is a TV series and it's animation quality is WAY better than Shadow Crap, an "OVA"!! I put under "" because Shadow Crap isn't really anime. It tries to be.

Youre either an idiot or blind. Robotech was one of the first "cartoons" to really infuse drama action and characterization. Its influence carried on for generations and still to this day is sought after.
everything is made from something. the story that became robotech did have value and match the animation. i think you'd be surprised at how many people watching it today are doing so for the first time. "blind bias" is demanding that they find it crappy.
@netgearcrash Not it didn't, protoculture in robotech is fuel, also a flower, also a drug, ancient civilization too?? Don't know, but robotech as a whole is garbage. Most of the people will find desapointing after Macross Saga finishes. And guess the only way to get more macross??? You are right more Macross!!! Not more Robocrap!!!
Its not really just the way it looks, its how the whole story is changed. Robotech is fine if you ask me, but if you watch Macross, you'd see that its better. Characterization for one thing. Minmei isn't quite the bitch she is in Macross. Also, the music is completely different. And of course, there is the amazing Do You Remember Love movie that completes the entire Macross story.
I totally agree with what you're saying. However, I just think they're both different. It wasn't changed to adapt, it was changed on purpose. I've seen Macross and Do You Remember Love. It's excellent in is own right. Robotech is something completely different. Can the same story be told the same pictures/etc? I think so and I think Robotech achieves that.

Siiiiigh - to the CLOWN.
Okay, granted the anime is not original, but the STORY certainly is because it's. For example, "Protoculture" in Macross is NOT - IS NOT - the same as "Protoculture" in Robotech (comes from the cultivation of the Flower of Life).
Harmony Gold doesn't own the rights to Macross - no, but they do own the rights to THE STORY of ROBOTECH which is much deeper and vast than Macross alone.
I enjoy anime, yes for the visuals, but THE STORIES are much, much more important.
Sorry man, but only a kid, or a retarded adult would see Robotech as anything good. Unless you think that power rangers has good story (never watched to tell the truth, but i guess it is shit). You can't get a good story while trying to fit 3 UNRELATED shows togheter!!! It would be the same as fitting Gundam Seed after Gundam Wing, what do they have in common??? Robots with samurai faces... What the 3 unrelated shows had in common, **HGay staff way of thinking: they have robots, they are anime
The worst thing is reading at rt boards stuff like this: why no zentradi appears at the sequels? LOL! Probably because it is made from 3 UNRELATED SHOWS!!!!! And what is even worse is to see some robotard fans comming up with excuses!!!!
And i'm sorry, but if rt was made with just it's poor story without any help from Macross it would have failed miserably!
these kind of animes why I had such a bright outlook of the future, but now I'm adult, it wasn't much like that, there's more bunch of cheaters in the world than real cool robot pilots
Love this fight, nice bit of editing. Not sure about the song, I like metal sure, but this fight maybe needs a faster pace or even a more melodic sound, it's somewhat like their dancing after all...
I suppose this was their first date ^.^ wish mine were more like this
Hey, while we're (not) on the subject, Japan, despite being a hella fun place DOES have a pretty shitty track record when it comes to racial judgementalism. But so does America-- and I'd say America's problems with race are way more intricate, confusing, and to be quite frank, downright pussified. Everyone here wants to whine about something racial as if they're entitled to it. Hey, I'm no different- I got accosted by some gangsta mofo trying to look good in front of his bitch today.
... so while on my bike (and he's acting like I ran into him or something), he yells a buncha tough guy shit to me, and I just yelled "DAG BOO!" back at his ass. All of a sudden, all I know is that there's like a million angry black dudes chasing me. This shit really frankly pisses me off. I might as well shouted "nigganigga" because that's all my idiot adversary wanted to hear. He also really must've wanted to start shit with a random passerby. So, forget Japan, who's gonna fix this bullshit???
I remember this show when it was on cartoon network, before toonami ever started. Then, as soon as they made toonami, a year later, robotech disappeared, and I was a very unhappy eight year old... I was stuck watching gundam wing... Which wasn't very bad, but not as good as robotech... :'[
Wrong! Robotech is doodoo. Period. I wouldn't say so if all of this footage for "Robotech Dogfight" wasn't originally something else. That's the thing you wankers don't understand. Whatever is so bleeding cool about this dogfight, too bad! It came from Macross. Pretending the same characters and events just "happen" in your show due to "similarities" when you buy up someone else's footage and rewrite it is delusional.
I wouldn't care if you did. Lots of juvenile anime fans rip on things. It's still trendy to hate Minmay, for example. In this case, we rip on this clip not because we "don't like" something about it-- it's because the above could be more accurately called "Dogfight from the TV show Macross" since Robotech owes its creation almost entirely to that show. Don't believe me? It's the least expendable series. Try replacing it with "Machine Robo" and rewriting it together with those other two then.
Actually, that piece of shit called Homotech ripped not only Macross but also two other anime shows :
"Robotech is a story adapted with edited content and revised dialogue from the animation of three different mecha anime series: The Super Dimension Fortress Macross, Super Dimension Cavalry Southern Cross, and Genesis Climber Mospeada."
Homotech : 1985
SDF Macross : 1982
Do the maths ..
So learn before making a fool of yourself like you did bacocksblock.
Now it's look like Homotech is ripping Star Trek. Go watch "Homotech : The Shadow Crapnicles if you don't believe me. It was like watching a Star Trek : The Next Generation episode. Robocrap is a franchise for people who like rippoffs of other series.
Fuck Robocrap ...
VIVA THE OTHER SERIES THAT HOMOTECH RIPPED !!!
P.S. : And don't attack again Asians because is "just plain stupid and juvenile".
"And don't attack again Asians because is "just plain stupid and juvenile."
Say what?
As a person who is both stupid AND juvenile, I am OFFENDED. No one should attack any asians. Unless of course, you know lots of Kung Fu and are being tested by an angry mob of about a billion asian dudes with like boards, knives, and the occasional club.
May not be dead, but some of us sure want it to die. It's an abortive, shitty re-written version of other shows. "I think it was neat how they did it" is the stock response for the fat fanboy that doesn't think about these things. Okay, I'm done here. Nevercominback. Nope nope nope...
Uhhhhh, "Racial Confusions?" Let's begin there. At least *my* interpretation is that Macross was somewhat progressive. I certainly didn't remember any interracial romance stories in any other cartoons at the time. Second, tweaking that "not that good a plot" plot and adding a couple of other lame, abortive, cancelled TV shows is what Robotech owes its very existence to. Sorry, that's a copout.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Racial confusions, yes...The annoying habit of animes to put japanes names on obvious non-japanese characters. If they feel so ashamed of their own looks they should at least be consistent.
Ah yes, the plot which deals with...Nothing at all right? Mospeada and Southern Cross may not be the best of shows..But they are a damn lot better than the Macross shows which followed.
Better than Macross Plus and Macross Frontier ? lol Stop taking drugs please. At least, Macross does not need rip other shows to prove itself successful (Macross Frontier is a hit). And the first comment was racist at best. Japaneses are doing this because it was american cartoons who inspired them to do animations works. It's an homage. Ignorant racist.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Rascist? Do you know what that words means little fanboy? An homage is when you put something small in a show you make. Having obviously white characters with japanese names and histories centered about the Japanese geographical area is anything but a homage. And considering Japan is seen as THE most rascist western nation in the world..Well you do the rest of the math eh?
I don't have a problem with a bunch of cartoonists from some other country drawing characters with skin lighter than theirs. People from the Osaka/Nara region have a reputation for being darker, and the preference toward lighter skin, from darker, has been around for at least a few thousand years. If some Scandinavian schmuck tells Japanese people they can't dye their hair because they're not taking pride in their natural hair color... well, you tell me who looks more racially judgmental.
I'll be polite as possible and suggest that you're out of your mind. Maybe you're confused and should be speaking some scandinavian language and not English. Granted, I've lived in Japan, and I know that there is a social racial complex some Japanese share toward westerners. But frankly I've also met people who are "western" according to bigots like you, and yet speak only Japanese and carry a Japanese passport. You tell me what their "cartoon" name should be.
True there is a dispute between Harmony Gold and Big West, but, does Big West want to miss out on potential sales of merchandise generated by a high profile American film. On the flip side of the coin I think it is a wise idea for Warner Bros to secure the rights for mecha designs from the original show no matter what. In other words if push comes to shove, Warner Bros better pull out the checkbook and pay BigWest for rights to show original designs of Valkyries, SDF-I Macross, Destoids, etc.
But that's not gonna happen. The reason why Tokyopop didn't release Macross 7: Trash manga is that Harmony Gold wanted it's share and logo to the cover. Big West didn't want to share the profit, end of story.
Manga, anime, toys & models are one thing. But I do believe the film industry particularly movies coming out of the US have huge potential for profits especially globally. In other words Big West/Studio Nue might consider how much everyone involved can profit.
And seriously who doesn't want to see a Valkyrie or destroid monster rendered by ILM or other high end FX houses, in ultra realistic CGI?
IMO I think Warner Bros shoud hire Kawamori for mech design, & wouldn't be surprised if they did.
Heishirosama, I understand your sentiment, the notion being Warner Bros has little interest in the original Macross. Don't right them off yet. It's too early. We have no idea what WBs intentions are on mecha designs. I hear Tobey MacGuire is a huge Robotech fan and if he's half as interested in the awesomeness of Macross & Robotech as I am, then I woudn' t put it past him on trying to steer the production toward the direction of maintaining original mech designs, possibly pursuing Kawamori.
heishirosama is right. Big West/Studio Nue don't want to share profits with a company that are fucking them in the ass. I told you that company pride in Japan is a serious thing and many Robotech fans don't seem to get it. Big West is not going to negociate with what they consider "thieves" refering to Harmony Gold.
Yes Big West/Studio Nue don't like Harmony Gold. Yes company pride is big in Japan. Yes Harmony Gold is an unethical/dubious corporation.
With that said... all the pieces are not in place and we just don't know. All the players and deals concerning Warner Bros. Robotech live action are not in place.
But you are right, saying its 95% chance of not happening. I'm just saying never say never...
"In an interview, Harmony Gold representative Kevin McKeever said that Warner Brothers had approached Harmony Gold about the project, that Harmony Gold would have "a say" in its creative direction,(...)"
So yes, Harmony Gold is a player in the game since they have the rights. If HG WANTS to negociate a deal (because what you are saying is based on speculations) they need to stop blocking Macross merchandises and give the FULL RIGHTS where it belongs (Big West/Studio Nue).
Look BUBBAPHAT217, you need to stop going in every Robotech vids you find and stop crying about the original designs in the Robotech LAM. There are 95% chance to see your idea not happening and heishirosama and me are here to tell you the true. Warner Bros. confimed the movie will be a "re-imagination" of the Robotech universe. WB surely already know that they won't have access to the original designs since they made that statement. Plain facts.
I agree chances are slim of seeing original designs in Robotech LAM. in fact that number 95% of not seeing it happen is probly about right.
So don't get your panties all in a bind when I say its not a complete impossibility, and it's too early to know for sure.
Like I said before don't underestimate the allure of working on American big budget film. I know at one point in the 90's there was a failed attempt by Kawamori to make a like action Macross, so for a moment he may entertain the idea.
"I know at one point in the 90's there was a failed attempt by Kawamori to make a like action Macross, so for a moment he may entertain the idea."
That is right. A MACROSS movie, not a Robotech one. Macross does not = Robotech. Keep that in mind. Macross is Kawamori's baby. Why do think he keep creating new Macross ? Macross is Kawamori main passion, not Robotech. The fact he was surprised over the Robotech adaptation prove my point. Kawamori doesn't like ripoffs of his own work.
JamesBond77 said - "Kawamori's surprise over the Robotech adaptation proves my point. Kawamori doesn't like ripoffs of his own work."
Give me the link that quotes Kawamori saying he regards RT to be a "rip-off", and where he proclaims his hatred for Robotech:The Macross Saga.
You're taking the word, "concern," and equating it with hatred. Of course anyone would be concerned about how their work is being adapted, but concern does not equal hatred.
"WB confirmed the movie will be a re-imagination of Robotech."
Re-imagination in itself doesnt necessarily mean 100% scrapping of all original designs. Look at the new Battlestar Galactica & the new Star Trek movie. I see a lot of designs very close to the originals.
"WB surely know they wont have access to original design since they made that statement. Plain facts."
Your making a false assumption based on your interpretation of the meaning of "re-imagined" That is not a plain fact. Sorry...
"Re-imagination in itself doesnt necessarily mean 100% scrapping of all original designs. Look at the new Battlestar Galactica & the new Star Trek movie. I see a lot of designs very close to the originals."
Well, The new Star movie will featured a completely new brigde. Also, we have not seen the entire ship. The new Batman movies featured new designs and I can go on. Battlestar Galactica is only an exception.
Yes the interior of the Enterprise is different but the exterior is very similar from what I've seen. Yes Batman batmobile has gone through several iterations, but that's because there's never been an iconic version of the batmobile until Batman Begins. Battlestar Galactica is not an exception. I can go on and on.
Designs of Macross are iconic to the show whether you want to call it Macross or Robotech. Re-imagination does not necessarily mean completely discarding all original designs...
Also why would Warner Bros. spend million of dollars in acquiring rights to reproduce old 1980's designs when they are not even sure if the movie will generate enough profits to make it worth. Warner Bros. is not going to please few OLD FANS (because Robotech is pretty a dead franchise unlike Macross). It's an AMERICAN company after all. They will want to produce new designs to appeal NEW FANS. This is why Warner Bros. and HG used the term "re-imagination of the Robotech universe"
"Why would WB spend millions of dollars in rights to produce old 80s designs when they're not sure movie will generate profit."
Wow you have little faith in Macross, whether its called "Macross" or "Robotech." WB would invest in something so old and dated as some dumb 80's cartoon because they have some faith in it, otherwise they wudnt do it.
A number of smaller profile titles like "Hell Boy," and "IronMan," did just well without the huge name recognition of say "Transformers" or "SpiderMan."
"The film's opening weekend was $13M and dropped to below $6 million the next weekend. The film cost over $135 million USD to produce, however it ended its theatrical run with a worldwide gross of slightly above $76 million."
And I can go on. The same thing could happen to the Robotech movie.
To predict that ROBOTECH LAM will flop is completely unfounded. There's not enough data to predict that.
Your just bitter, dude... Some people see the possibilities, you only see possible failures...
You keep confusing conjecture and speculation for fact. When I politely ask you for links to facts, you can't do it, the info is not there, and then you get frustrated...
You're only human... but man, quit trying to bullshit...
Or maybe you're a Zentradi trying to adapt to Culture. LOL Peace...
Contrary to some beliefs, Robotech is not dead. In the anime market of North America, RT is constantly in the top ten. New RT animated movies are coming out, novels, comics, rereleases of 80s material, merchandise etc. If it really was completely dead WB would not opt to buy the rights & instead make their own giant robot/space opera.
WB takes risk on Robotech or any new big FX franchise, but that's a given. But to compete with giants like Transformers or IronMan they will fork out the bucks.
Hey, I don't think they argue about the "true inner deep meaning of the Supervision Army" or whatever you're wanking about. I think, if anything, people want to see a sequel where humans finally encounter the faction that built the SDF-1 in the first place. Unless you still think it's "ZOR." *snide snicker*
U Missed the point,PooPoo the Clown. I was trying to say that the most important thing about Macross is the characters, and the relationships between the characters. That's really what makes the original Macross work. Who created the SDF1 in the first place is something a little interesting to explore but it doesn't make or break the series in the larger scope of things.
That's FOO FOO, nig-guh. Robotech is poo poo plus doodoo. If you look at Robotech under a microscope, it looks like little Macross molecules with little brown Carl Macek doodoo molecules on them. Hence, Robotech is shitty shitty doo-doo for heads full of poo. I rest my case.
A clone, as in just another raging fanatical Macross purist fanboy.
But your microscope analogy is true in that you have to look very closely to see the differences between Macross and Robotech as in the broad sense they are 90-96% the same. Yes you can argue about details like names, terms like Protoculture, Supervision Army, whatever, but in the end the heart and soul (someting not so quantifiable) remains intact.
Apology accepted. But not for failing at life. I'll have you know that Carl Macek's poopoo is much more pungent and powerful than Toby McGuire's, and accounts for 98 percent of the mass of a Robotech molecule.
Yukyuks aside, I don't agree. I won't think if you take a bunch of footage from different programs that were never meant to be combined and try to write them together, you end up with new art so much as one new shoddily spliced-together program that has less integrity than the original
I agree the way the three shows were put together was quite shoddy and disjointed, but Macross as presented in Robotech survives 95% intact. Saying Macek acounts for 98 percent of Robotech is way off. in fact saying so, is almost a rib against how great of a story Macross is, even filtered through Robotech.
BTW FooF Clown what's with the obsession with feces, many of your comments make reference to shit or poop in one way or another. At least it makes me laugh. It's kind of amusing. Thanks.
Yea, just so. It survives "intact." Look, they didn't even need to rename anybody, and the fact that this footage, named "Robotech Dogfight" is preDATED by another show using the same footage (and we all know it by now) is practically a joke. I don't think you can even get away with calling it Robotech's
shi-- er, STUFF anymore, because it never was to begin with. Just because a bunch of jackoffs buy a Japanese toon doesn't mean they can remake it
Good thing you agree. Now, let's get onto my fecal comments. My central thesis, or "fecis" if you will, is the fact that this franchise is a big honkin
Mute this shit. Listen to Danger Zone while you watch. Win.

@Diveyl How do you know they didn't pull the clips from Robotech episodes? If you are going to fool yourselves into believing they're completely different, then that matters. If the clips were pulled from Robotech files, then it's technically Robotech.
Go do a sequel to Chaka Zulu!
brymasters76 2 years ago
robotech was not made for kids. i saw it in the 80s and people died in the series. it was one of the first to show real consequance in us anime. get facts straight first, i agree with you in theory, but get facts straight first.
spadehatesscrewtube 1 year ago
@spadehatesscrewtube
I KNOW it wasn't made for kids and KNEW it wasn't made for kids when they aired it on the kids block on the local station back in the 80's. Me, My older brother (who was in his 20's at the time) AND MY MOTHER watched it. They didn't watch any other 'cartoons'!
brymasters76 1 year ago
well, in your post directly below this, you said robotech was made for kids. i just disagree with that, thats all, it's no big deal. i'm a fan and happy about being one. if people REALLY want something to argue about, let's take bets right here and now on how badly the HYPERION movie is going to be. seriously, hollywoods attempting to mash two great sci fi books into one 2 hr or so movie (live action at that)
spadehatesscrewtube 1 year ago

"Stealth" Funny I didn't see any Mile long transforming battle ships in stealth nor did I see transforming fighter planes, sentient computer viruses, space fold jumps, or two rival pilots competing on two different development teams in the same experimental fighter program.
thebluemaggot 1 year ago
1. I know Surrogates is based off of a comic.
You see the elements though...crystal clear
brymasters76 1 year ago
Also what I meant about Robotech was that ROBOTECH was made for kids...MACROSS was made for everybody...ROBOTECH was Marketed to Kids SOLELY BECAUSE IT WAS A CARTOON. There were other cartoons at the time that were not really for kids either Robotech was a WAR story were the other shows were more adventure, but people still got bumped off in all of them. Who remembers Tranzor z. with the giant girl robot that had the titty rockets? It cam on before robotech here
brymasters76 1 year ago
"3. Who were they fighting in Half of STEALTH and All of Macross Plus an AI. You had three friends." Well then I guess I robot is also a ripoff of Macross Plus because they do the same thing, fight a corrupted AI. The only time they are fighting the AI in MAcross Plus is for about the last half of the third episode!
thebluemaggot 1 year ago
@brymasters76 I like your points but the last one was "Shaka" Zulu. I know this cause I was forced to watch it growing up....and Robotech was edited for kids to watch it and Yeah Macross was and is still better.

I believe in the purity of anime, but to slam something simply because the way it looks is just stupid.
sidbrown210 2 years ago
The point is: Only those who think Robotech is good are some blind biased fans that watched it as a child. I really doubt Robotech Shadow Crapiness can attract new people to become a fan. Or even the older series, today with internet anyone can figure out the crap Rt is.
The original is better because the animation actually matches the story.
Without other show mechas/characters robotech is nothing.
009FGH 2 years ago 11
25 years later we're still talking about it and it's still a licensing cash cow for Harmony Gold and more recently ADV and even discussion of a live action movie - 25 years later. LOL! Fine it's crap, but this crap is making a lot of people rich.. and laughing at self-proclaimed "purist" all the way to the bank.
sidbrown210 2 years ago
009FGH 2 years ago 10
There's a reason why Kawamori is fighting over those rights - and it's not just to feel good. Yes, cash cow - still a HUGE draw at conventions on its own right. But again, how would you know that since you don't pay attention anyway.
Yep Robotech has nothing but a great bottom line.
Just ask ADV.
sidbrown210 2 years ago
Just because there are some nuts hardcore fans doesn't mean it is a HUGE chash cow.
If it is really that good, why they had to hire a poor quality korean animation studio for Shadow Crap, instead of a japanese high quality one????
Just because they had stored 300 toys and it sold out doesn't mean Robocrap is big.
Look at Macross Frontier, it is a TV series and it's animation quality is WAY better than Shadow Crap, an "OVA"!! I put under "" because Shadow Crap isn't really anime. It tries to be.

DistendedPerinium 11 months ago
Its not really just the way it looks, its how the whole story is changed. Robotech is fine if you ask me, but if you watch Macross, you'd see that its better. Characterization for one thing. Minmei isn't quite the bitch she is in Macross. Also, the music is completely different. And of course, there is the amazing Do You Remember Love movie that completes the entire Macross story.
GetterRay 2 years ago 3

Wrong! Robotech is doodoo. Period. I wouldn't say so if all of this footage for "Robotech Dogfight" wasn't originally something else. That's the thing you wankers don't understand. Pretending the same characters and events just "happen" in your show due to "similarities" when you buy up someone else's footage and rewrite it is delusional.

Asinine folks ripping what other folks like is just plain stupid and juvenile.
bacocksblock 3 years ago
I wouldn't care if you did. Lots of juvenile anime fans rip on things. It's still trendy to hate Minmay, for example. In this case, we rip on this clip not because we "don't like" something about it-- it's because the above could be more accurately called "Dogfight from the TV show Macross" since Robotech owes its creation almost entirely to that show. Don't believe me? It's the least expendable series. Try replacing it with "Machine Robo" and rewriting it together with those other two then.
FooFooTheClown 3 years ago 10
Actually, that piece of shit called Homotech ripped not only Macross but also two other anime shows :
"Robotech is a story adapted with edited content and revised dialogue from the animation of three different mecha anime series: The Super Dimension Fortress Macross, Super Dimension Cavalry Southern Cross, and Genesis Climber Mospeada."
Homotech : 1985
SDF Macross : 1982

Oh yeah, I have heard there's boobs in it..Must be that which gets the wanime fans up in arms.
jensaver82 3 years ago
Uhhhhh, "Racial Confusions?" Let's begin there. At least *my* interpretation is that Macross was somewhat progressive. I certainly didn't remember any interracial romance stories in any other cartoons at the time. Second, tweaking that "not that good a plot" plot and adding a couple of other lame, abortive, cancelled TV shows is what Robotech owes its very existence to. Sorry, that's a copout.

Racial confusions, yes...The annoying habit of animes to put japanes names on obvious non-japanese characters. If they feel so ashamed of their own looks they should at least be consistent.
Ah yes, the plot which deals with...Nothing at all right? Mospeada and Southern Cross may not be the best of shows..But they are a damn lot better than the Macross shows which followed.
jensaver82 3 years ago
Better than Macross Plus and Macross Frontier ? lol Stop taking drugs please. At least, Macross does not need rip other shows to prove itself successful (Macross Frontier is a hit). And the first comment was racist at best. Japaneses are doing this because it was american cartoons who inspired them to do animations works. It's an homage. Ignorant racist.
JamesBond77 3 years ago 5
This comment has received too many negative votes show
Rascist? Do you know what that words means little fanboy? An homage is when you put something small in a show you make. Having obviously white characters with japanese names and histories centered about the Japanese geographical area is anything but a homage. And considering Japan is seen as THE most rascist western nation in the world..Well you do the rest of the math eh?
jensaver82 3 years ago
I don't have a problem with a bunch of cartoonists from some other country drawing characters with skin lighter than theirs. People from the Osaka/Nara region have a reputation for being darker, and the preference toward lighter skin, from darker, has been around for at least a few thousand years. If some Scandinavian schmuck tells Japanese people they can't dye their hair because they're not taking pride in their natural hair color... well, you tell me who looks more racially judgmental.
FooFooTheClown 3 years ago 11

BUBBAPHAT217 3 years ago
But that's not gonna happen. The reason why Tokyopop didn't release Macross 7: Trash manga is that Harmony Gold wanted it's share and logo to the cover. Big West didn't want to share the profit, end of story.
heishirosama 3 years ago 2
Manga, anime, toys & models are one thing. But I do believe the film industry particularly movies coming out of the US have huge potential for profits especially globally. In other words Big West/Studio Nue might consider how much everyone involved can profit.
And seriously who doesn't want to see a Valkyrie or destroid monster rendered by ILM or other high end FX houses, in ultra realistic CGI?
IMO I think Warner Bros shoud hire Kawamori for mech design, & wouldn't be surprised if they did.
BUBBAPHAT217 3 years ago
I would be surprised if Warner Bros. or Tobey Maguire knew Shoji Kawamori even existed.
heishirosama 3 years ago 3

JamesBond77 3 years ago 3
Yes Big West/Studio Nue don't like Harmony Gold. Yes company pride is big in Japan. Yes Harmony Gold is an unethical/dubious corporation.
With that said... all the pieces are not in place and we just don't know. All the players and deals concerning Warner Bros. Robotech live action are not in place.
But you are right, saying its 95% chance of not happening. I'm just saying never say never...
BUBBAPHAT217 3 years ago

JamesBond77 3 years ago

Could be true. But you're speculating.

JamesBond77 3 years ago
Yes the interior of the Enterprise is different but the exterior is very similar from what I've seen. Yes Batman batmobile has gone through several iterations, but that's because there's never been an iconic version of the batmobile until Batman Begins. Battlestar Galactica is not an exception. I can go on and on.
Designs of Macross are iconic to the show whether you want to call it Macross or Robotech. Re-imagination does not necessarily mean completely discarding all original designs...

Because they have the rights. Things Warner Bros. don't.
JamesBond77 3 years ago 2
Also why would Warner Bros. spend million of dollars in acquiring rights to reproduce old 1980's designs when they are not even sure if the movie will generate enough profits to make it worth. Warner Bros. is not going to please few OLD FANS (because Robotech is pretty a dead franchise unlike Macross). It's an AMERICAN company after all. They will want to produce new designs to appeal NEW FANS. This is why Warner Bros. and HG used the term "re-imagination of the Robotech universe"
JamesBond77 3 years ago 2
"Why would WB spend millions of dollars in rights to produce old 80s designs when they're not sure movie will generate profit."
Wow you have little faith in Macross, whether its called "Macross" or "Robotech." WB would invest in something so old and dated as some dumb 80's cartoon because they have some faith in it, otherwise they wudnt do it.
A number of smaller profile titles like "Hell Boy," and "IronMan," did just well without the huge name recognition of say "Transformers" or "SpiderMan."

I will show an example with Stealth (film) :
"The film's opening weekend was $13M and dropped to below $6 million the next weekend. The film cost over $135 million USD to produce, however it ended its theatrical run with a worldwide gross of slightly above $76 million."
And I can go on. The same thing could happen to the Robotech movie.
JamesBond77 3 years ago
JamesBond77 said-"I will show an example with Stealth film"
WTF? How we go from RT to Stealth? In any given field, any example of a failed endeavor can be used to discourage.
Saying Stealth is a flop is useless info in this context. Any film can flop or be a success. Why you refer to Stealth is a complete mystery.
Is it because:
Stealth is based on an early 90s unknown manga?
The stealth fighter secretly had a GERWALK mode.
Jessica Beil would be a good Lisa..(Uh I mean, Misa Hayase)?
BUBBAPHAT217 3 years ago
I said it was an example (the biggest flop in Hollywood history). Don't panic.
JamesBond77 3 years ago
Or better, stop panicking.
JamesBond77 3 years ago
To predict that ROBOTECH LAM will flop is completely unfounded. There's not enough data to predict that.
Your just bitter, dude... Some people see the possibilities, you only see possible failures...
You keep confusing conjecture and speculation for fact. When I politely ask you for links to facts, you can't do it, the info is not there, and then you get frustrated...
You're only human... but man, quit trying to bullshit...
Or maybe you're a Zentradi trying to adapt to Culture. LOL Peace...
BUBBAPHAT217 3 years ago
Contrary to some beliefs, Robotech is not dead. In the anime market of North America, RT is constantly in the top ten. New RT animated movies are coming out, novels, comics, rereleases of 80s material, merchandise etc. If it really was completely dead WB would not opt to buy the rights & instead make their own giant robot/space opera.
WB takes risk on Robotech or any new big FX franchise, but that's a given. But to compete with giants like Transformers or IronMan they will fork out the bucks.

Dont do it man... Tomorrow'll be a brighter day... Oh... you meant ROBOTECH is dying... Sorry I thought you meant sumthin else... LOL
Ya hate Robotech... Sourgrapes, I get it...
You're super-otaku... The ultimate purist... Macross Forever... Robotech rot in hell.
Or if you're feeling particularly bright: Robotech sucks dick... Macross rules... Robotech is for faggots...
Now lets argue about the true meaning of the "Supervision Army."
LOL
BUBBAPHAT217 3 years ago
Hey, I don't think they argue about the "true inner deep meaning of the Supervision Army" or whatever you're wanking about. I think, if anything, people want to see a sequel where humans finally encounter the faction that built the SDF-1 in the first place. Unless you still think it's "ZOR." *snide snicker*
FooFooTheClown 3 years ago 10
U Missed the point,PooPoo the Clown. I was trying to say that the most important thing about Macross is the characters, and the relationships between the characters. That's really what makes the original Macross work. Who created the SDF1 in the first place is something a little interesting to explore but it doesn't make or break the series in the larger scope of things.
BUBBAPHAT217 3 years ago
That's FOO FOO, nig-guh. Robotech is poo poo plus doodoo. If you look at Robotech under a microscope, it looks like little Macross molecules with little brown Carl Macek doodoo molecules on them. Hence, Robotech is shitty shitty doo-doo for heads full of poo. I rest my case.
P.S. Foo Foo the Clown rules.
FooFooTheClown 3 years ago 10
lol
JamesBond77 3 years ago
Sorry Foo Foo, the CLONE.
BTW I support both Macross and Robotech, nig-guh.
BUBBAPHAT217 3 years ago
Apology accepted. But not for failing at life. I'll have you know that Carl Macek's poopoo is much more pungent and powerful than Toby McGuire's, and accounts for 98 percent of the mass of a Robotech molecule.
Yukyuks aside, I don't agree. I won't think if you take a bunch of footage from different programs that were never meant to be combined and try to write them together, you end up with new art so much as one new shoddily spliced-together program that has less integrity than the original
FooFooTheClown 3 years ago 11
I agree the way the three shows were put together was quite shoddy and disjointed, but Macross as presented in Robotech survives 95% intact. Saying Macek acounts for 98 percent of Robotech is way off. in fact saying so, is almost a rib against how great of a story Macross is, even filtered through Robotech.
BTW FooF Clown what's with the obsession with feces, many of your comments make reference to shit or poop in one way or another. At least it makes me laugh. It's kind of amusing. Thanks.
BUBBAPHAT217 3 years ago
(this nigga think he smart or somethin') *ahem*
Yea, just so. It survives "intact." Look, they didn't even need to rename anybody, and the fact that this footage, named "Robotech Dogfight" is preDATED by another show using the same footage (and we all know it by now) is practically a joke. I don't think you can even get away with calling it Robotech's
shi-- er, STUFF anymore, because it never was to begin with. Just because a bunch of jackoffs buy a Japanese toon doesn't mean they can remake it
FooFooTheClown 3 years ago 14
Good thing you agree. Now, let's get onto my fecal comments. My central thesis, or "fecis" if you will, is the fact that this franchise is a big honkin
