  • I'll still hit that!!!

    and I'm 17 :O

  • Yeah, no need to keep throwing dirt on her fantastic carrer. She was the whole package on stage and brought many a smile to those at the time & even now. The historian doesn't need to keep going on and on.

  • Let's ditch all the comments about Dusty's personal life and just say - looking and sounding great here!

  • What a groovy little number, and shes pretty nifty on those high heels!

  • And I can hardly blame Dusty (Mary O'Brien) for not fully coming out in the 1960's, although she was more daring than other lesbian singers, such as Lesley Gore ( who came out not too long ago insisting she was never in the closet! ). Dusty once said "I'm a bad lesbian" for not getting involved in more gay rights causes. Whether it was the Catholic upbringing, the drugs, the pressure to have a career...it is understandable to me. But lets tell the truth now.

  • @Dottiecurran All lesbian affairs and one marriage that Dusty had ended in violence or assault . Her one marriage she ended up in Hospital re'teeth knocked out and plastic surgery required on her face . Her friends paid for it she was Broke! from drugs etc. so she got a cheap job done and spent rest on drugs. I recommend her AUTHORIZED Autobiography "Dancing with Demons" 2002 Penny Valentine Journalist/friend of Dustys ine circle she also died Breast cancer age 59 same as Dusty.

  • @Dottiecurran Yes read the Authorized autobiography "Dancing with Demons " by Penny Valentine Journalist/friend of Dustys inner circle . You'll understand her more re family life odd parents and Visitors in the home plus the Catholic School teaching her how boys were evil . as she said men scared her i wonder why what a bad life from the beginning. She also said near the end of her carreer when she played the gay/lesbian bars she felt she was at the rock bottom of her carreer RIP

  • she is so sexy

  • Dusty working the gams. Go girl. One of the classic voices of the 60s.

  • typo: I have to LAUGH

  • She was friends with Martha Reeves, who made this a hit. Dusty's version is different and also good. I have to lugh thinking of all the guys who lusted after Dusty Springfield's body....a body no man would ever have

  • @ZarahLean

She was attracted to both women and men. A quote from her wiki entry:

"The catchphrase is: I can't love a man. Now, that's my hang-up. To love, to go to bed, fantastic; but to love a man is my prime ambition.... They frighten me."

  • @notsotupelohoney You are wrong. I suggest you read the authorized bio by her friend and manager Vicki Wickham that states she was a Lesbian and NOT attracted to men. The bisexual stuff was as far as Dusty Springfield dared say at the time. Before you contradict people here I suggest you have sources other than Wiki....which state by the way "I can't love a man"! I don't know why people have such a problem thinking thier idol are Gay. Deal with it.

  • @ZarahLean I agree. There is absolutely no evidence Dusty was ever in an affair with a male but she lived with various female lovers, such as singer Norma Tenaga. All we have would be Dusty's statements when cornered by the press that she is bisexual or has a fictious boyfriend "Howard". But there are people who still think Liberace was straight. What does it matter? It does to those who can't accept homosexuality.

  • @Dottiecurran

You knew Dusty Springfield personally, too. Awesome.

  • @Dottiecurran There was one male party that almost married her , who understood her crazyness the drugs, drinking ,self inflicted wounds to release inner pain cutting her arms and legs, her in many visits to Belview Mental Institute so many they gave her , her own Straight jacket to take home. The male was none other then Burt Backerack but he married Anges Dickenson instead.

  • @ZarahLean

I have no problem with her being gay. I just didn't know that you knew her personally so that you knew her quote was bogus. I didn't know her personally so I thought the quote was real.

  • are there any girls alive right now that are just as awesome as DUSTY!? let me know and we can get in a food fight together!

  • In Nam it was a tribut to everyone of us that shot a gun into knowhere land and killed whatever the stuoid things hit. I listened to this over and over untill it seemed ok to do what Nikson said was the right thing to do,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,HE WAS WRONG. Iyt was people like Dusty that helped us get home!!!!!!!!! Love her fore ever.

  • Unbelievably talented, absolutely stunning and wonderfully dressed! Typical Dusty!

Move over only way is essex tarts, this is what a real woman is!

    xxx

  • BEST OF BRITISH

  • unf

  • Most girls my age idolise the likes of Ga Ga. Not me, Dusty Springfield is the queen!

  • @RonaldineCook i completley agree with you, dusty is my idol too, nevermind gaga and beyonce! xx

  • Nobody could do it as Dusty! She was and is among the greatest of soul singers.

  • Dusty had legs? what a pleasant shock!!!!!

  • my fave motown record...by far...this is doing it justice

  • Was this song were use by the movie"the warriors"

  • Who doesn't love Dusty? I like the fact that performers in the 60s were so versatile that they could cover each other's hits and they all sounded great. You just can't imagine that happening today.

  • It's a shame the only video I can find of her with decent sound quality is "Spooky"

  • She is amazing.

  • Born Apr 1939, I make her only 28 there. Good all the same.

  • wasn't she like 40 here? She looks scrumptious

  • Miss her dearly.... lovely voice and a gutsy style.

  • She surely could sing Motown songs well .

  • The Authorized Autobiography is titled "Dancing with Demons " 2002

Author Penny Valentine died 2004 also cancer age 59yrs.

Also stated in book one man she could of married who understood her was Bert Bacherack composer . but he married Angee Dickinson .

Also mentioned she was jolted by an Italian male lover earlier in life, Dusty was taught at the all girl Catholic school boys sexuality was evil....now I understand the law suits against the Catholic Church today.

  • dusty may have been with a man, but she loved and adored women. she even married a woman. we never hear about any romantic links she had with men.

  • @my60girls I recommend her Athorized Autobiography by Penny Valentine Journalist/Dustys inner circle of friends and Vicky Wickham Dustys Life Manager .Dusty had a terrible child/singer life. She was into smoking lots, drugs booze an inner pain that caused her to inflict cuts to arms /legs . She was in and out of Mental Institutes in England/USA.. All relationships with women /married ended in Violence. The marriage was so violent she required plastic surgery/new teeth.Only happy when SINGING!!

  • Dusty died in 1999 of Cancer. When Elton John helped to induct Dusty into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame he said,"I think she is the greatest white singer that there has ever been."

  • Ooh this is so good. And her hair and modified tent dress is so 1967......

  • awesome pipes..sucks i was'nt born in those years...my grandpa is so lucky..

  • Great music, timeless

  • SUPER COOL

  • I love her dance moves!!! Great sax too!

  • I love her

  • she did this song fantasticly

  • Nice. Martha and

  • 1st time watching this version.....great job by Dusty. Looks like she's skating with some of moves she's doing.

  • throb

  • it's very very rare thing when a beutiful woman is a master in singing an so so.... lovely

  • gotta love the 60"s

  • Nice pair of legs.

  • I like the bass saxophone and also the backing singers.

  • I miss you so much Dusty

  • Much better than Martha,and that's a classic

  • @MrJosephcat LIAR!!

  • I didn't even like this song-now I've seen her sing it brilliantly and seemingly effortlessly, I'm blown away by just how damn good she was. And you Dusty fan's are so lucky that there's some BBC shows like this that survived the ages-I'm a Pet Clark fan (but I adore Dusty almost as much) and the BBC have all but obliterated any record of her even being on their silly network in the 60's.

  • Did she invent Northern Soul??? Look at thoise moves!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • simply. the.best.

  • A lesbian better read into more she loved men also, even in her own statements she admitted she loved men . But one can;t help feel she was damaged along the way in the all girls school she attended in England thats why there are so many law suits today with Catholic Private Schools!!

  • Dusty forever!

  • thats so cool that she was a lesbian!

  • Dusty at the height of her 1960's fame. Looking splendid. Cute and classy at the same time.

  • love it!!!!!!!

  • my mom always had her shows on,and I watched too. I was only a little lad, but Dusty facinated me in a very different way to the pretty girls at school, so thank you Dusty for that fabulous voice... and thank you for turning me on!

  • To me as a fan, 39 yrs old, I have thought and discovered Dusty could sing just about anything. Always performed with such emotion and class. Gorgeous songbird! I wish she were still with us.

  • I just adore Dusty Springfield. I think she was so bloody attractive!! And I do agree, seeing her legs for once is a plus lol.

  • I've been singing rock and roll for 25 years and have never, EVER seen anyone so f#$king awesome! This is mind boggling!

  • This is the iconic Dusty.

Never better ... and there will never be her equal.

    FAX

  • what a babe.

  • the first woman solo singer that has transended music. all woman vocalist should send her a thank you letter.

  • It's so great to see those lovely legs! (Dusty is usually in a long dress.) There are many songs that she re-made; some better than the originals, some just as good, some not as good. This one, "Nowhere To Run," (by Martha Reeves & the VanDellas) is one that she just should have left alone. She performed it well, mind you, but it just doesn't have that... funk! She sounds like she's "running to beat the clock." Again, not bad.

  • shes cute as a button

  • A real horny lady!!!!

  • lol..i aint eva seen this before. They use to dress really cute back then. I just cant figure how they get their hair to look like wigs..Maybe she wore a wig like Dolly Pardon. Humm..not shure. But was a good song.

  • God bless you for these videos--I,just love this woman.I never knew this was the woman behind the music.

  • Just amazing ! I don't think there is anyone out there that could come remotely close to the vivacious talent that she was. Incredible talent..she was so at home with singing and dancing. Love it!

  • shake it baby......nice legs.......

  • DUSTY up in the sky forever ! ! !

  • Dusty sang with more soul than the boys did, and did it in a sequined mini skirt, heels, and beehive, rocking us from behind those Panda eyes, dancing sideways and using her mic like a snakecharmer. Was there every any singer that was cooler? Show of hands. I see, no there wasn't . By acclamation, she rules.

Thank you, gferdinandus, for all of your wonderful posts.

  • Hot Hot Hot - I know I'm a guy, but could I at least watch?????

  • very rare shot of dusty's legs, most videos , pictures never showed these gorgeous pins, top voice and great performer.

  • Yes I always said Dusty was sex and could she sing too!

  • The second best version of this song to the original by The Vandellas. Dusty was one of the few white singers who could match the black performers skills -namely, using the kind of feeling the black use. She happened to record at Motown, of course. That great recording enterprise, where would the American industry be without its feats?

  • WoW!!! Great Song !! Thanks:)

  • mmmm great legs! and yes, she got soul!...and I don't give a hoot wheater she was straight, bi or lez!

  • Well, she wasn't straight, and there's no evidence she had relationships with men (which is not to say she might not have been attracted to them - I mean, I've seen some women (mostly butch) that I find attractive, but I've never dated a woman...).

  • I'm sure Martha Reeves would approve. Dusty does have a whole lot of SOUL.

  • great

  • Brilliant, Dusty was the one who introduced the sound of Tamla Motown to Britain, Singing great songs like this and then bringing the stars onto her show.

  • Pop stars of today should be forced to watch this performance and learn what it REALLY means to entertain and captivate an audience.

  • The girl had soul

  • I love her voice.

( ich liebe Ihre Stimme )

  • All this time... I never knew she was gay!

    Wow... GO DUSTY!

  • She was bi.

  • No she was gay. Name a single boyfriend she ever had.

  • Okay...the only person who could answer that question passed away in 1999. Is it not enough that she was beautiful, talented, and loved by people everywhere? Why should it matter? IMO she was bisexual. How do I know? Because she said so...again and again. I don't think Dusty was a liar. If Dusty had chosen to be identified as a lesbian, she would have said so... but, to press into her lifeless hands a banner she chose not to carry in life I think is wrong. As I said before, does it matter?

  • Really? I knew she was queer before I knew that I was. :)

  • Do you mind? How old are you love?

  • @alixsb - I'm 43. I first saw Dusty when I was about 11 on television. I have very little gaydar, but very good lesdar - another reason I might be a dyke trapped in a Bear's body. :) As to knowing about myself, I was about 23.

  • 23? Wow... we're you with women before that? I think... it's was a little harder to guess who was gay back in the days! They were more careful about their image then... not so much now!

...it's getting better! Seems like everyone is coming out now! Are you living in the US or ?

If... I'm getting to personal... I'll understand sweetie!

  • @alixsb - I was with no-one. Actually, I was 31 before I had any relationship...

    I'm Canadian.

  • Wow... I'm in love, with love! Gay or Straight... I don't think, I could had lasted that long, without someone important in my life! And... I'm not talking about sex... just having someone to hold and touch romantically!

But...we're all different, with different stories!

    : )

  • @alixsb - this is true - for me, I couldn't imagine having sex without being in love with someone, and, at the risk of being freaky again, I dated my boyfriend for 18 months before we became that physical. I'm slow - what can I say? :) I had important people in my life, but not love interests.

  • Wow... talk about control!!!

I think... you're lucky! The desire for SEX or physical contact... sometimes causes heartache!

    Disease too! Kidding...

  • It's so easy to see why Dusty became such a 60's icon. This is vintage Dusty. She could sing anything!!

  • Dusty was and is soooo Cool.I love her

  • Take the baddest on earth and let her sing it, it would sound fantastic!

(Don't mean that this song is a bad song, I mean it generally)

  • Dusty! Fantastic. A true British vocal legend.

  • WHAT A GREAT DANCER

  • Martha Reeves owns this song. HOWEVER, Dusty slays it. Love her.

  • Just for trivia sakes Dusty and Martha Reeves where great friends isnt that remarkable.Check out their duets on "Sounds Of Motown" awesome.Dusty rocks and does her friends song true justice.Dusty is and was so beautiful.RIP

  • Thank you for this comment. Both women have so much class, so much talent.

It shouldn't surprise folks that Martha and Dusty were friends.

  • so true

  • Agreed! :)

  • Love the bass saxophone on this and the excitement Dusty generates. Great stuff!

  • man, i`m an atheist but this song has me questioning my beliefs.

it`s tough to deny there`s a god when you`ve just seen an angel.

    she was the best.

  • corny

  • corny, but true.

If there is a heaven, Dusty better be in it singing in front of the chorus!

  • @poetsdontknowit

She was ONE of the best. Its hard to deny the existence of at least something otherworldly if you close your eyes and listen to any of the soul singers from the 1960s or 1970's. There is simply something else there. Also, look at live performances from Diana Ross, the Everly Brothers, and many many others. Look into there eyes and you will also see something else!!!! The Divine is there. If you let go of notions of a Christian, Jewish, or Muslim God, its hard to disbelieve.

  • God, she was brilliant! Her voice is great, she looks gorgeous and the best their ever was!

  • dam at 0.10 she puts james brown to shame makes you proud to be white dunt it

  • Yes, besides being so talented, she was quite beautiful.

If this clip doesn't make you dance, or at least move your feet, you need to check your pulse...you might be dead.

  • @Mycroftsbrother best comment EVER! :o)

  • What a bundle of engery! She looks like she's having a blast performing this song. Look at her legs... how sexy...she does a wonderful cover.

  • Mejor Dusty que Aretha!!!

  • This song is my favorite Motown song ever, tho the original is the best, as always dusty covers is brilliantly.

  • SHE IS JUST PURE SEX

  • @gazzah54

    Amen :)

  • the best white soul singer ever .that was our dusty...

  • I'm crazy about her steps in 1:27

  • Thanks for this great quality clip!! She could sing anything. I like this better than Martha's version.

  • Best quality version of this spectacular performance; thanks!
