I will not talk about Georgia and its warcrimes and how flawed its governmental institutions are. But I will point out this. Why does Georgia feel that after 4 times in the last century it has tried to recapture Ossetia and failed to do so does it insist on pissing off Russia? This is the way democracy works, use freakin' diplomacy not act of war to get something done. If you shoot at Russians you will get shot back and most likely lose.
Things were going so well until Shakashvili screwed it up. Democracy does not and will not allow it. Russia is not communist and Georgia is not a democracy.
Furthermore, Russia has struggled to get where they are today and they have moved on to the point that many of Soviet block nations simply can not keep up. The problem is you haven't addressed that Georgia fired on Russian peacekeeping troops and that is an act of war in itself because they were placed their from the first war in 1992 to keep peace. However, no we didn't stop anything. In fact we were as well as Europe could do nothing to deter Russia. I know I live in the US and am in the Army. All they did was use search and destroy tactic in response to your countries first move that started the war.

The new Russia wants peace in its borders and around and wants to be on international stage making friends along the way. I dont excuse Ossetia's and Abkhazia's actions and Russia's participation but Russia has placed peacekeepers to stabilize this bloodshed since the 90's.

I will not talk about Georgia and its warcrimes and how flawed its governmental institutions are. But I will point out this. Why does Georgia feel that after 4 times in the last century it has tried to recapture Ossetia and failed to do so does it insist on pissing off Russia? This is the way democracy works, use freakin' diplomacy not act of war to get something done. If you shoot at Russians you will get shot back and most likely lose.

Furthermore, Russia has struggled to get where they are today and they have moved on to the point that many of Soviet block nations simply can not keep up. Just look at Ukraine and how they try to brainwash unsuccessfully its citizens with anti-Russian cold war nostalgia. It is stupid and doesnt bring anything else but hard feelings. Also understand Russians and Georgians and Ukrainians have a lot of common history. They have all struggled and they have all overcome. Russians and Georgians and most eastern european countries live peacefully with Russia even if politics are at friction point. Russia wants to rebuild ties with Georgia but Shakashvili does not. What is so democratic about that. This bickering about Russia's problems which we know only thanks to Russia's openness has got to stop. Nothing is getting accomplished.

Why would a country want to control media if internet and literature is open to free speach. It doesnt make any sense. Even if they wanted to control this they simply cant...look at Iran for example. I mean did you know that Georgians not only ran away from the Russians but left their tanks and other armoured vehicles on the road for any maniac to drive. From even my experience that is just irresponsible so of course the Russians had to go and retrieve it...the Georgians didn't seem interested in getting them back. Here's my point Russia did not envade, the tactic they used was search and destroy. They didn't even enter Gori like Shakashvili claimed much less Tbilisi. I feel very sorry for Georgian people, they were used by Shakashvili and now joining NATO seems like a distant dream and getting territory back impossible even through diplomatic means.
