This may sound stupid but my game is glitchy. When I start it up the screen is weird. I play the game and everything works perfectly. But the top of my screen is going crazy! Although I can still play it perfectly it annoys me that my game copy is like this. HOW do i fix this?
@AllKindMusicUploader take a q-tip, dip it in rubbing alcohol, and clean the connectors. Then do it again with the dry side. If it's a connection problem then this will most likely fix the problem. I just did that with one of my games and it fixed it no problem. If that doesn't work, then it's probably an internal problem and either has to be fixed professionally, or you could just buy a new one. Of course, you could just tolerate it.
@DanielGClapp Thanks alot I will try it out. I heard from this method before, got any clue where you can buy that alcohol? Is it the one you use for cleaning wounds (100% alcohol ones)? Iam not english so I got no clue what it's called here ;p. Anyway thanks alot!
@AllKindMusicUploader Well I used 91% Isopropyl alcohol, but I'm sure 100% would be fine. Yes it is the same alcohol for cleaning wounds and you get it at any drug store (walgreens, CVS etc.). Just make sure the connectors are dry. If none of that works, Zelda II is actually quite cheap on ebay these days.
another good place to level up is outside the castle with the sleeping princess, bump into a gel or whatever it's called and go back and forth killing them. once you leave the section of the battle field with one in to kill the other one in the other side of it the gel you killed will respawn
this game is so fucking hard that i have five heart containers, on 3 power, five magic containers, on 3 power, and the sword power on 2 and i cant evend get past that damn first temple
@mariopaintking1000 Well dude,I have 0 heart containers,whats power,0 magic containers,whats power STILL,and whats sword power & I dont know what to do :3
Don't level up on the birds, if they hit you they take away 10 xp. Level up on the glowy skull things in dungeons, they spawn every time you walk to far away from them and they give you 50 xp.
ok so i have one simple question.HOW THE FUCK DID THE 8 YEAR OLD KID IN 80s LIKE ME SUPPOSE TO PASS THIS GAME WITH FUCKING IMPOSSIBLE DIFFICULTY AND PUZZLES FOR WHICH YOU DIDNT GET CLUES ANYWHERE???EVEN THE ADULTS HAD SERIOUS PROBLEMS PASSING IT.WHAT THE FUCK WAS SHIGERU MIYAMOTO THINKGING??he should have known that not only the asians are going to play it -__-"
@MrSarmaftw Legend of Zelda is supposed to be really hard and have puzzles. You're supposed to either figure it out on your own, ask your friends, or watch these walkthroughs. :D
This game takes way too much grief. It is a great game and challenging. Compared to most of the modern games its a blast. It keep you occupied for hours. Also the RPG style is sort of nice even if it isnt "a true zelda game" Why should we hate on it?? I remember being 4 or 5 and playing this with my dad.
I'm a huge Zelda fan and I love this game. This was the first Zelda I ever played when I was a little kid. I still remember it to this day. Very fond memories!
ich kann mich noch erinnern wie es damals bei meinem opa gespielt hab als ich glaube 6 war. ich denke dass ich damals aber immer nur rumgelaufen bin weil ich nich gepeilt hab was is tun muss und bin immer bei den schleimdingsis game over gegangen :D ja des is a geiles spiel =) <3
It's better to commit suicide and have a gameover with low experience points then have almost enough to level up and then lose your last life. Be mindful of how many lives you have left and/or how much (or little) experience points you've racked up prior to leveling up. There's nothing worse then getting a gameover and being just shy of a level up and losing it all and having to start from zero.
Is this game worth getting??? I am playing the very first Zelda game an im already almost done. and I saw this and it looked fun and challenging! I dont mind the side scrolling at all. And wanted to know if it was worth getting.
It doesn't really play much like a traditional Zelda game, but yes, it's one of the better NES games out there. It's also super hard, so if you're up for a challenge, go ahead and grab it (especially if you have a 3DS and have the option to download it for free).
@TheZeldaDungeon How can you say it "doesn't play like a traditional Zelda game"? It was only the second title, there was no "traditional Zelda game" formula at that time. Newer Zelda games are generally a mix of the old "boomerang, bombs, and arrows" formula from Zelda 1, as well as "sword, shield, and jump/roll dodging" found in Zelda 2. Even the concept of "towns" where you heal and get quests first appeared in Zelda 2.
@STAMFADERNA definitely worth getting...it's still a classic and the sidecrolling makes this easily the most challenging Zelda of all.....still very fun to play and one I'll always enjoy..but many do call it the black sheep of the series.
@STAMFADERNA definitely worth it. i fell in love with this game when i was younger. my younger brother got this for christmas back in 1989 i was 11 and he was 7. i didnt get to play this again after it was lost and i bought it at the now defunct funcoland in the fall of 1997. took me a week or two but i finally ended it after a 7 year absence. thanks to emulation being popular for 12+ years i got this on my back up hard drives.
Whenever I'm in a town, I think it's called Saria or something, it's the town that has the bridge to get to Death Mountain. Some people in that town turn into bats (I don't know what their actual names are) after I'm done talking to them and they fly around and I can defeat them like normal enemies. Is this a normal glitch or is there something wrong with my game? I would like TheZeldaDungeon to respond to this question.
@TheZeldaDungeon wat a dumbass question, especially the one on how to use magic in battle.. i mean how many buttons does the NES cntrl have, play the frickin game for more than 5mins...anyway you are very generous for answering all these questions
@TehAswanson Someone in that town explains it by saying "Eyes of Ganon are everywhere." It is not a bug, those people are supposed to be Ganon's spies disguised as villagers.
There are several invisible monsters. To see in dark caves, you need the Candle. To see invisible Moas in New Kasuto, you need the Cross. It may be faster and easier for you to track down what you need by looking at the walkthrough and guides on our website.
@kiilelconscheitsap the candle is in a castle you have to go up and to the right after coming out of the main castle and go into a cave and come out the other end. If you do that you should be in a sand area and the castle is in the top right.
@kiilelconscheitsap i think u mean the flying eyeballs in the graveyard or the lava caves leading to the great palace. yeah that was annoying to me when i was younger but then later when i re-bought the game i realized that i was missing an item and that was in the 6th place in the desert east of the abandon kasuto town where there is 3 mountains in the shape of a triangle. just blow the flute there and the 6th palace is revealed. u need the cross in the palace to see the invisible eyeballs.
It gets lots of criticisms because of the many annoyances present in the game. Some parts are fun, sure, but I'd rather go outside than play this one again.
I'm a Zelda fan and always liked this game, but it seems so simple compared to most games, LOL, a bit hard in places, the skulls in the dungeons give a lot of Experience too, like 50, and are great for leveling up, but they also take a long time to kill and move so randomly!
Thanks for saying the games gets to much critisism. Because it really does! As far as i know, this is the only 2-D Zelda sidescroller not counting the CD-i ones.
Haha, "This is actually a good place to level up." That's funny, because you spent about 50 seconds in the battle screen and netted a gain of exactly 3 experience points. Those orange birds drain a bunch of points every time they hit you. But seriously, why are you grinding in Zelda 2? The game gives you so many points that you should actually save your crystals for the end, so you have extra lives for the final palace.
I prefer the system used in this Zelda game over all of the others. There is just not too many side scrolling Action-RPG's out there. All of them are all top-down Action RPGs. This game and Wanderers from Ys 3 are the only side scrolling Action RPGs I know of.
What an underrated game... It was not like the original Zelda. But who cares? It was an epic adventure and the music was pretty good. I can remember the original golden cartridge and the great effort nintendo took for the booklet. You dont see something like that nowadays. A TRULY GREAT GAME.
Once you have acquired spells, press Start to open your menu and press Up and Down on the D-pad to "select" a spell. Press Start to close your menu, then press Select to activate your "selected" spell anytime you wish.
When i first Played (like Two days ago) I Didnt Know there was a palace Right there Up in the Corner and i just got the Heart and i See this and im like >.> wow
Press Start to open your menu, leave the cursor on whichever spell you want to use, press Start to close the menu, then press the Select button anytime to activate a spell for one screen.
iam an big zelda fan and i love that game it is my 2 fave zeld game and it gets you that feel when you play the first one or the super nes zelda game wicth is my 3 fav
Hmm... Link's Awakening, Oracle of Seasons, Oracle of Ages and The Minish Cap all had jumping in form of the Roc's Feather and Roc's Cape. Granted, it's not an regular button, but an item instead, but still, that's a third of the Zelda series right there. Also, if you count Soul Calibur, Smash Bros and the CDI titles as well, then you have a few more to tack onto the list.
@TheZeldaDungeon I think he really meant as an actual constant ability, and no Smash Bros, etc doesn't count lol. Just like Kingdom Hearts isn't a FF game.
haha i remember playing this when i was like 5, gamecube was prob out and i thought it was the first zelda, and once i threw out the instructions, shouldn't have my game store said they'd give me 100$ for both :\
If you didn't beat this game, finish the great palace, and at least feel some accomplishment, then you should do so. People scoff at this one, but in all honesty, it set the bar for what would later be our 3-D Zelda games. It's confusing at times, the palaces can drag on, but this is a more RPG oriented Zelda than most of the others were.
This walkthrough is amazing! There's no studdering. There's no waits to figure out what to do next. There's also just side information that stays on point with the video. This is the way a walkthrough should be! Wonderful job!
people who don't like this game who cares their a so many more zelda games of it's traditional format who cares. Nintendo tried something different normally they just release a game just like the original so they tried this once and went back to the original format. Now i understand back in the day why people could have been kind of pissed. I was kind of pissed that my neighbor had Zelda 2 and I didn't regardless of the format. In fact the look and play made me even more interested to try it
Back then, board games were fashionable. I do have a weak spot for this sequel. If you think it's difficult, just play the japanese version! The dragon boss is a tough bitch because it usually make you fall to the lava pits with its goddamned fireballs...
I really enjoyed your commentary during th e walkthrough...I have to say that I agree that, while it does take a lot of punishment from critics...Link is easilly one of the best games for NES, and this is coming from someone that was raised on NES...and STILL enjoy playing these games. Link is a game that I can play 20 years after beating it to death in the late 80's and it's still fun.
Props to anyone who beat this on the Nes hah.

Ocarina of Time and Twilight Princess are the best Zelda-games... i just don't like 2D, but Minish Cap was ok.

@kevin190499
Once you have acquired spells, press Start to open your menu and press Up and Down on the D-pad to "select" a spell. Press Start to close your menu, then press Select to activate your "selected" spell anytime you wish.

@CMOODO

@TheZeldaDungeon
Why'd i count CDI? lols :P
CMOODO 1 year ago
@TheZeldaDungeon I think he really meant as an actual constant ability, and no Smash Bros, etc doesn't count lol. Just like Kingdom Hearts isn't a FF game.

@CMOODO What about Link's Awakening, the Oracle games, or Minish Cap?

@CMOODO yes this game is mysterious and cool. It has a cool mystique behind it. I remember playing it 20 years ago ;)

i'd never sell it
CMOODO 11 months ago
@CMOODO they said theyd give you 100 dollars for what exactly? Zelda 2 and its instructions?
tenthousandyearsgoon 11 months ago
@CMOODO Well, as far as 2D yes, OoT has jumping.

Nintendo translation fail go west to the palace which really means go east! No wonder people need walkthroughs.

Ah adventure of Link ^^
Back then, board games were fashionable. I do have a weak spot for this sequel. If you think it's difficult, just play the japanese version! The dragon boss is a tough bitch because it usually make you fall to the lava pits with its goddamned fireballs...
nozoto 1 year ago
I really enjoyed your commentary during th e walkthrough...I have to say that I agree that, while it does take a lot of punishment from critics...Link is easilly one of the best games for NES, and this is coming from someone that was raised on NES...and STILL enjoy playing these games. Link is a game that I can play 20 years after beating it to death in the late 80's and it's still fun.
