There was a big old eel living in the creek at the back of my house on the North Shore and it bit my foot once when I was wading. I tried to fish for it but my hooks were for sprats and they broke when it took the bait. In the end I left it alone and didnt wade there any more.

Look, Ive actually dived with these eels... The only reason they bite you is IF you somehow piss it off, touch it, or if it thinks your fingers are sausage. (Morey Eels see almost as well as we do underwater without goggles... barely anything at all.. just shapes) Simple solution... DON'T piss it off, keep your fingers closed so it wont try to have a snack, and no touchy!

While I understand your perspective, I think that it essentially ignores a bit of the picture. While for a fish eels are intelligent, they are nowhere near sentient.. and feeding them creates unnatural behavior mechanisms. This is not good for the eel's natural survival mechanism. Besides, one of the best things about SCUBA is that you are able to reach an untamed, unaltered aspect of nature.. if you go about taming and altering it... ...

Im sure those are better, but if you are in Maui, Mala is really nice. Don't forget a dive flag though b/c the police get mad. You just walk out on the rocks 50 ft and can jumb into 20 ft of water. Its such a cool dive and boats charge a hundred dollars to take you there.

Its actually the inside of Molikini, the crater off of Maui, I dove the backwall as well and that is totally awesome. A pod of 4 humpbacks came within 30 feet of us. If you go to Maui, dive Mala Ramp. It is an awesome dive, you are guarenteed to see sharks and frog fish, and you can walk out on the lava rocks and dive (i.e. shore dive it) and save some $$$.
