....actually, quite informative and entertaining video. Just in case you play trumpet or another brass instrument, I think you might find some trumpet and brass tutorials quite intriguing over at YOURBRASSINSTRUCTOR's Channel.
This would be an excellent study of Buddy's hands if the camera would've stayed at the distance it's at on the 4:13 mark..with a split screen shot using the distance at 5:02.
But..I guess this wasn't directed as an educational video...
Sucks for those of us who want some extra insight into Buddy's technical approach.
Never heard anyone make even a buzz roll sound as good as this man. Brings me back to my teenage years of playing and I'm 24 now. I can't wait to get back into it!
@jeronimoringo It is more or less Bolero, He explains that before the flutes join him up in front. (I'd link to that video but I can't find it anymore)

This arrangement was originally written for .... (crap I'm blanking) Fiddler on the roof? I'll get back when I figure that out
actually there IS a person who makes accounts and just trolls buddy rich videos. they do it because everyone just explodes defending buddy. just chill out, people.
Buddy was known as probably the greatest snare drummer of all, this shows why. I ordered one of those snare drums to be sent overseas when i was in Vietnam in 1970, wish i still had it, loved the sound and those side by side lugs. Had to leave it there.
Here is a lesson on playing the snare drum that will stand the test of time forever.
Something interesting to note; the snare drum stand on a drum set is designed for a drummer in a sitting position. It doesn't really go high enough to play the drum while standing up. Buddy compensates for this by bending at the knees and bending over more than usual to play here.
Buddy must have had flashbacks from when he was a young child playing only the snare drum in his parent's vaudeville act.
I just watched Travis Barker for the first time...several videos. I see a guy with a lot of potential and a decent pair of hands. I also see four measures of playing, stop, take a breath, another four measures and repeat as above. Sorry but he is NOT a great drummer...any drummer in any marching band can or should be able to do what he does. Compare him to Buddy Rich? Simple: open stroke roll to open stroke roll. End of story.
Every single one of barkers fans who's on youtube are complete fuck tards. Whats going on? is there just one fucking idiot who makes a million accounts on youtube and comments on how "barcur iz so mch betur tehn budee". Listen pal, before you start critisizing one of the greatest drummers off all time, stop dropping out of high school, stop smoking so much weed, and learn some fucking rudiments or something.. jesus.
I wouldn't take it so personal. We all know these Travis and Joey comments are nothing more than dribble from trolls who want a rise out of those of us who know true talent. Buddy's unquestionable talent stands on its own. It's irrefutable. One of a kind. You all know it and so do I. That's enough.
You're joking right? You PREFER the SNARE work of Travis Barker? Learn to spell and learn about drums before you open your mouth. Buddy's solo is so much more technical.
His touch and control of the snare drum is unparalleled. Amazing, even on just a snare, his sound is completely unique. There is so much going on here that it would take a long time to even try to figure it all out.
hey regardless of anything i just want to say thanks to everyone who sends in these clips and makes an old drummer like me happy (still whacking it out at 75 !)
There were many physical aspects that contributed to his playing that all you experts aren't even aware of. His height and posture included. And the word is DUH, not Doh.

This is the finest front view of Buddy which clearly shows the length of his arms in ratio to his body. Longer then average arm length which contributed to his playing.

thanks brian740; this sounds very similar to Ravel's Bolero.

unparelleled virtuosity!
this time he blows you away (snare only), buzzzz rolls & accented flammadidles, while standing, etc.

Check out the sticking on the flam accents at the top. They aren't normal flam accents. Dude couldn't even play flam accent conventionally. amazing.
