Skin and Hypersensitivity Reactions w/ Provigil (Jan. 2008)

I take it only occasionally, and I'm GLAD to have it. I would like to know the % of people who have had serious reactions. SJS can happen with other drugs, including antibiotics. Anytime a person takes a medication there's always a risk of a bad reaction. It's a matter of weighing risk vs benefit.

SJS is least serious of Provigil and Nuvigil hypersensitivity reactions. What makes Provigil so dangerous is the delay in the reaction. You can be fine for 2 or 4 or 6 weeks up to 3 months. Then it hits you like a freight train and even ER doctors only ask about drugs or foods in last few days. I speak up because vast majority of people w/ multi-organ failure can't talk about "risk v benefit" - they are DEAD! Benefit? Provigil is about same as Two Vivarin tabs (400 mg caffeine).

PROVIGIL KILLS! I had "multi-organ" failures which NEARLY killed me after I started taking Provigil modafinil & a week after my dosage raised from 100 mg per day to 400 mg. What "failed" were my heart, my kidneys & my brain. My blood pressure sunk so low ( 80/45 ) that my brain & body got starved of oxygen. I was in cardiogenic shock, near death during a 9-day coma, spent 21 days in ICU, 32 days total in hospital. My heart, kidneys & brain were damaged permanently. DO NOT TAKE PROVIGIL!

Well you seem sufficiently compus now so you recovered well i suspect.

If your story is true you fall into a very small percentage of users so blanket warning the populous off a drug that may be of great benefit to many is retarded.

Some people die taking penicillin, gonna warn the public to chuck out their antibiotics too?

The odds of my survival were about 1/1000. My doctors didn't catch on that it was Provigil until the FDA finally warned the public - after 9 YEARS - that Provigil and Nuvigil causes DRH ( delayed reaction hypersensitivity ) a condition which can kill people so fast that they die before a diagnosis is ever made. Think of how often you read or hear of healthy people suddenly going into shock or heart failure with no cardiac history? I got lucky and survived my DRH. Vast majority don't.
