Within that map, the Protect sequence while waiting for Toxic is a giant 15-way parallel fork, each branch of which contains 2 to 6 probabilistic gates. To get the probability of a specific branch, you have to multiply all the gates on it, but then at the end you add the probability of all 15 branches together.

This Rival is acts like a smartass because when some Pokemon on your team faint, he says "Hey! You're looking pale!" He also says "Are you happy you won? Humph! Sure! Go ahead and brag about it!" He hates it when you score critical hits and you make his Pokemon faints and you win. I love it when you defeat this smartass. It's amazing how you came up with a defensive strategy when you battled this character with Level 5 Pokemon and won.

I use something called NUS-CPU-09. It's perfectly accurate at mimicking the operations of an N64 processor, because...that's exactly what it is!

Of course, on its own it isn't very useful, so you'd need to hook it up with some other circuitry, and maybe stick it in a plastic case or something for protection from the elements. Fortunately for me, it already came that way.

Mewtwo doesn't even have Safeguard in round 2. Lugia does, but won't use it if it sees one of its other moves is an instant KO.

The commentary is a lot like pro wrestling, as I mention more directly in part 7. Scripting the whole thing for recital in one nonstop take is unwieldy, but I do take note of some "spots" where I want to get a certain line in, then ad-lib the rest in accordance with the story that I know is going to play out.

I already had studied it; if not in brainstorming, certainly the hundreds of tries would have uncovered that behavior. If they're poisoned (particularly with Toxic), and have something healthy to switch to, they switch.

And overlapping the sound in is about the easiest step of the whole process. I already know the commentary is in sync with the play, so once I align it with one point on the timeline, it's lined up everywhere.

I already pointed out in voice that the odds were right around 1/744. I don't think it got to that many actual tries before success, but I do know it was somewhere in triple digits, and even a failure at turn 1 doesn't come until about 1:40 so I'd have to redo that much prep time for the next attempt.

Needless to say, the attempts weren't all done in succession. Maybe an hour each day until I got one that worked.
