I still stand by what I said. The chances are multiplied between all the probabilities, not added. It's the same way that Protect's chance of working is multiplied by 1/2 each turn, but it doesn't go to 1/6 after the 3rd successful attempt, it goes to 1/8.
Are you familiar with the distinction between serial and parallel circuitry?
To evaluate the win probability of a battle like this, you can represent it as a circuit map. Within that map, the Protect sequence while waiting for Toxic is a giant 15-way parallel fork, each branch of which contains 2 to 6 probabilistic gates. To get the probability of a specific branch, you have to multiply all the gates on it, but then at the end you add the probability of all 15 branches together.
This Rival is acts like a smartass because when some Pokemon on your team faint, he says "Hey! You're looking pale!" He also says "Are you happy you won? Humph! Sure! Go ahead and brag about it!" He hates it when you score critical hits and you make his Pokemon faints and you win. I love it when you defeat this smartass. It's amazing how you came up with a defensive strategy when you battled this character with Level 5 Pokemon and won.
@SadisticMystic Oh trust me if it was all Misdrevous/Mismagius lvs 30- and Ghastly/Haunter lvs 35- with the same move type structure such as Toxic, protect, pain split, perish song, confuse ray, or hypnosis.... it gets ugly
what kind of n64 emulator did you have? and what settings did it have as well? But this video has a couple years... it wouldn't be strange if you don't remmember
I use something called NUS-CPU-09. It's perfectly accurate at mimicking the operations of an N64 processor, because...that's exactly what it is!
Of course, on its own it isn't very useful, so you'd need to hook it up with some other circuitry, and maybe stick it in a plastic case or something for protection from the elements. Fortunately for me, it already came that way.
Just goes to show you, Pokemon isn't about the strongest, its about a strong strategy. Though, I shouldn't say this because my strategy is usually just to attack...
I can almost imagine Mewtwo's thoughts, at the end. "So ends...the war of the Gods... Destiny's hand cannot be...stayed..." (Okay, okay, Dissidia: Final Fantasy came out way after this, but even so, I just somehow imagine this being said anyway, to make it even more dramatic and such, heh.) Fate said you die by Perish Song, so, you die by Perish Song. @_@ Goodnight, and watch out for pissed-off Level 5 Pokémon. Yeesh... My condolences to that poor Mewtwo...
I don't know...it seems like the effort required to modify the game so that Endeavor and Focus Sash _actually exist_ would more than offset the easier strategy.
meh, never played pokemon stadium two outside of the minigames at 3 in the morning while i was stoned out of my mind.. so i'm sorry i didn't realize it didn't have endeavor or focus sashes.
I'm controlling two entities in this video: player 1 and the announcer. They're designed to be separate characters with their own personalities, a lot like Homer Simpson and Krusty the Clown (who share the same VA).
"This looks like a solid team ready to play the long game." PWN Lol BOX5 empty
"Hey! You're looking pale!"
"Arrrrgh! Lugia!"
DO NOT tell me you predicted Mewtwo would not use Safeguard and a switch to Ho-oh. Or did you breed these guys with PokéSav? And are you reading a script or what?
OR MAYBE THE LEVEL FIVES ARE ONTO SOMETHING.
I suck! I use Protect!
This chump ENDURED the hit!
Mr. Backup used Protect!
Thanks! I never knew how to beat this guy! Thanks for teaching me how!
Mewtwo doesn't even have Safeguard in round 2. Lugia does, but won't use it if it sees one of its other moves is an instant KO.
The commentary is a lot like pro wrestling, as I mention more directly in part 7. Scripting the whole thing for recital in one nonstop take is unwieldy, but I do take note of some "spots" where I want to get a certain line in, then ad-lib the rest in accordance with the story that I know is going to play out.
,,,oh, lol. I still can't believe you predicted that initial switch from Mewtwo to Ho-oh without having already studied the AI.
So...you film it, then as you watch it, you record random commentary (must be hard), including some notable instances, then overlap the sound in (must be very hard)?
I already had studied it; if not in brainstorming, certainly the hundreds of tries would have uncovered that behavior. If they're poisoned (particularly with Toxic), and have something healthy to switch to, they switch.
And overlapping the sound in is about the easiest step of the whole process. I already know the commentary is in sync with the play, so once I align it with one point on the timeline, it's lined up everywhere.
I already pointed out in voice that the odds were right around 1/744. I don't think it got to that many actual tries before success, but I do know it was somewhere in triple digits, and even a failure at turn 1 doesn't come until about 1:40 so I'd have to redo that much prep time for the next attempt.
Needless to say, the attempts weren't all done in succession. Maybe an hour each day until I got one that worked.
Above having the patience to breed the moves and all the hax, I'm more amazed at the patience in that (which technically speaking does tie in with those other two).
An hour a day? Then it should take on average about 4 months until you can actually get this right. I probably would have gone mad in a week. .-.
Cat-Cry Misdreavus got a type-advantage on yah. Lol, how many times did you have to try in order to get that hax? Or did you do some tweaking of any sort to the video?
I suck! I used protect was the best line i ever saw cause there i felt like i died a little but anywayz this was the hardcorest match if pikachu'z BP didnt work it would have been game over and instant derf
