  • This is one of my favorite games of ALL TIME

  • You can't make this boss battle hard if you try.

With all the deep storylines in this game you would think the ending would have more depth to it. I wanted like maybe one of the wise men or townspeople or mesia says something truly poignant and thought provoking about what you did and how it affects mankind's future. Maybe everyone in Leaf Village throws you a festival and there's a bittersweet toast to everyone who was lost in Shyron and how at least it was not in vain. Something like that.

  • such a great game... brings back memories of staying up late on school nights playing this game. i still actually play it, probably about once every 2-3 years. you forget enough so that its almost like playing it new but remember enough so you dont get stuck trying to find stuff. thanks for the upload

  • is Athena Asamiya & Sie Kensou in the game?

  • Makes me wonder what happened to those two young warriors after the battle; plus, did the character keep crystalis or any of the other blades when it was all over?

  • @Kaidus4ce If all four swords had to be combined to make Crystalis, and Crystalis was put in the reactor, and the tower destroyed itself, then probably not.

  • lmao wtf, what a stupid final battle. i love this game but jeez, talk about easy.

  • I loved this game, but it was really REALLY frustrating at times.

  • @UndefinedNerd yea man especially when you have to start all over

  • game was awsome i loved it never used game genie on this one put many hours on it at the end the bunny rabits are the villagers great game

  • All your vids are great. This game has great music.

  • dude, seriously -- last bosses of games need to be ghouls n goblins status

  • Another thumbs-up for both a good video and a great choice of game.

I'm one of those people who sat all the way through the 16-bit (and 32/64-bit, and 128-bit, and current-gen console) era hoping we'd see another Crystalis. I guess the closest we got was maybe Lagoon on the Super NES (though that's a bit of a stretch, it wasn't nearly as good as this game).

    Anyway, nice job.

  • Fellow fans of crystalis hear me. These sites I have post are retro gaming sites. Those who don't own a nintendo or emulator go to these sites to play Nintendo Crystalis and even GBC Crystalis for free. Please visit these sites and enjoy playing crystalis "on the go" ;)

  • I remember getting to the tower and then being pissed that I didn't have that warrior ring to make my life easier. I started back at a previous save point JUST to get that ring. Yes, it does allow you to spam the level 1 of a sword by just hitting the button. You get it by talking to someone in Goa with that Change spell. (I've done it enough :P)

As for the game genie, there are a few codes, but the one I only remember is the unlimited usage on "Refresh" to heal yourself. But that's it.

  • I always thought DYNA was kind of a chump end boss.

  • For those that don't know Nintendo bought the rights to this game from SNK and made a gameboy color game for it. They made the last battle with the Emporer come after the DYNA battle. I always thought that's how it should have been from the begining though.

  • I think the battle of DYNA at the end was the real logical ending to the "Original version". Look the whole point of Draygonnia was that Azteca: the grand puba was an android built to protect and enlighten mankind. He would later become tainted by program error and transform into Draygonnia. Because of him the life cycles of Mesia and the "red haired man" was activated by the 4 wise men. Draygonnia had not reached the tower yet and was defeated by "red". The tower then had to be stopped.

  • Mesia who was waiting on the tower and who had the power to transport to the tower waited for "Red" to meet her there. She then used her power to combine the four elemental swords into Crystalis. While on the tower it was revealed why the two heroes had been put in cryogenic sleep. The sword was made in order to stop the tower it was the key need to stop the towers activity. 1997 plus 100 years has passed equals 2097. the friends and family of the two are gone. feel the passion in the story.

  • If anyone else noticed the irony of the story it was that mankind said it would not use technology anymore. Azteca is an android so they broke their promise. This android cause the death of many in Shyron and the suffering and oppression of the people of Goa. The mistake was corrected at the end however by Mesia and "Red" by destroying both Azteca and the Tower. Anyone who like Final Fantasy 7 think was Meteo stopped before or after Sephiroth? Why should the Tower be any different in this case?

  • wow 6 secords and u kill final boss nice XD

  • I completed this game in October 97... Heck, I "found" my cartridge on october 1st of that year. When I got my Genesis in 93 I put my NES away for years on end, till my genesis broke. Ah, the first "retro" phase.

Anyhoo, I always expected more from DYNA, but then again, maybe the Crystalis is just that bad-ass of a weapon.

IIRC, the energy beam only fired when you fought Dyna, right? I can recall using the teleport trick after I had it and being VERY dissapointed..

  • October 1st, 1997... The END DAY.

    Coincidence?

  • yeah, that is what I was making reference to, the oddness of such an event occurring on that very day of that very year: for me to find my cart again and play.

  • Nice! I remember playing the game on October 1st, 1997 as well. I had already beaten it by then, but I started a new game on that day just because it was The End Day.

  • At the screen that says The End, Blake's feet look like they are coated with blood.

  • I remember playing this every time I went to my aunts. I couldn't take it home because it belonged to my cousin and I never ended up purchasing it. I don't remember how far I got but I never beat it. Ahh good times it's fun to remember times as a kid. I didn't remember this game til recently when i searched every nintendo game on wiki just to find it. lol

  • Why is the video no longer available, surely nintendo didn't make them take it down lol. If they did hopefully that means they are actually using the rights they own for virtual console/ a remake?

  • who'd've thought that a mythical sword was needed to blow up a reactor, haha

god I miss this game, it was so badass. one of my childhood favorites

  • @harlequinsCrest the original keyblade :p

  • Crystalis was so great and ahead of its time. For an NES game, it had an incredible storyline and fleshed out characters. The only gripe is that the methods used to keep you from advancing before you got everything weren't story driven. There'd just be a pop-up method that said, "YOU AREN'T STRONG ENOUGH TO MAKE IT YET!!!" First time I got that, I started power-leveling like crazy, until I realized I had to fine the tornado bracelet.

  • *find

  • haha yeah so true. The first time I played I was under-leveled for alot of bosses and when I attacked I would get that metal "ting" sound. That's a sound you learn to hate in this game.

  • I agree, I had already found the tornado bracelet before and I needed to level up to proceed in mt sabre. Anyway this was the first RPG I ever played and to this day final fantasy can't give me the Nostalgia I feel when playing this game I remember the summer I finally beat the game no cheats (no store in my area carried nes game genies back in the day) I liked the plot and the side bosses as well as the main bosses. Seriously SNKPlaymore needs to remake this classic or at least make a sequel.

  • @4u57inc0v3110 Agreed the only thing that bothered me about this game was finding out where the hell to go at times.

  • To the guy that said he must have used a game genie, you are wrong. There were never any game genie codes that I ever saw for this game, and also you don't need them. There is an item you can get towards the end of the game called the warrior ring that lets you spam the level one charge attack with just one click of the button so yeah, he didn't cheat.

  • well in the vid, he did take a hit by the beam of the... whatever the hell that thing is. so how do you explain that?

while the ring is true, that doesn't prove that he didn't take damage from that beam

and all of that is besides the point. we're here to watch this for the fucking ending!!!

  • Well I borrowed a game genie from a friend a long time ago and his book didn't have this game, so I always thought their were none but you can look it up on game genie's site to see them. Even still though, there is no "Invincible cheat" so the only thing I can think of is he got hit so soon , that the damage detection hadn't started yet? I might fire up my nes and try it later(the saves are still in the tower lol) to see if what happens to him is valid, if not I have no clue how he does it lol

  • SXVPUOSE - I still remember that gamegenie cheat for this game from over 15 years ago.

  • How coincidental that I actually meant YOU, TGArthur, are an idiot.. I just missed hitting reply. So we're both idiots!

  • You're an idiot.

  • But important enough for you to comment about.

  • Yeah this recording is 2 years old so I prolly did use game genie, I dunno I can't remember. But the game is easy if you know what to do. Also a fully powered sword makes no difference, it's the same attack. Plus lets say if you could charge it up, you could kill this guy before it even fully charges, piece of cake.

  • Other then FF1, this was the first RPG I had played at that point

  • Although this is one of my favorite games, I have to admit, the final boss battle was too flippin' short!

  • Amazing! I just LOVE Crystalis. It's a terrible shame that that GBC port was butchered to no end (the game was fine the way it was, but could have used a bit more fleshed out dialogue... that's all it needed, if that).

When playing the GBC version I was wishing I was playing the NES version again because of the awesome music and better gameplay!

  • The Japanese name for this game was God Slayer: Sonata of the Far-Away Sky...

I wonder what other differences there were?

Thanks for the video ;) Glad to recall this great classic.

  • They really need to remake this for the Wii. AND, the main character shouldn't be of indistinguishable gender and should wear not a purple shirt.

  • I love the purple shirt lol xDD

they should make it so you can play as the girl too though

  • the main character is a dude.. its quite clear in the game

  • One of the best games ever! Very time consuming though. I swear I have fought monsters for hours just to afford a shield.

  • hahahaha!! Me too! I remember paying my little sister something like a dollar to do nothing but sit there and fight monsters so I could get money, while I went off and did something else. Strictly to kill monsters for money. I remember taping down the A button on a turbo controller and just telling her to walk into the enemies. :)). I was like 8 or 9 years old.

  • this was fast good job

  • This is my favorite game of all time! ;o) That last image of Mesia and the main guy standing on the cliff and that noise when "THE END" pops up still is one of my favorite moments during any videogame ever! I <3 crystalis

  • Ah... This is my favorite NES game of all time... Everything about it was so amazing, beautiful, and wonderful! I tried to assemble a team to help me remake it once, but nobody else really helped. Maybe someday...

  • I love this game. Thanks for the memories. Also, the "THE END" sound at the end? Creepiest thing on the NES since the giant blue blob in the last palace of Zelda II. "Bloop-bloop-BLEEEEEEP". Oh god, I think I just crapped myself.

  • this is a one of my favorite games!

    thanks man!

  • i love this game i find it the last night

  • this is just the best game I ever played. SNK 4 life, beeaatch!!!

  • probably the easiest final boss of all time

  • I loved this game, but the final battle... just disappointed me. I only recently found the rip of the final battle music (Since I never thought to check out this music), and wow, it's great! So I play all the way to the end again, and it's just as forgetable as the first time I heard it. In conclusion, I felt it should've been harder, longer, more drawn out, and more strategic. Oh well, still one of my favorite NES games.

  • Well all we Crystalis fans can do is hope they're be remake someday or a sequal along the same lines. I'm hoping the same thing for Guardian Legend as well.

  • They did release a remake for GBC... But apparently they weren't allowed to use the orginal music so the music in it sucked royally.

  • hey i bought this game for game boy color when i was like 8 ;P

  • I bought this game for NES when I was 8.

  • talk about memories, i havent played this game in years. was one of my favorites. its amazing how bad the endings suck on older games compared to games today

  • My first NES vid. Next ones i make will be of better quality.
