  • Usefull performance- I'm trying to play flute in small acustic band and decided to buy Audio Technica Pro-70 Mic after watching Your video :) Before I tried only vocal microphone, which was very anoying, because I coudn't move and sound quality was poor - Hope Your solution will help - I'm going to try also delay effects etc. :)

  • @nroblese Thanks Nick. My sound is influenced mostly from sax and trumpet players. The only jazz flutist whose sound I really imitated is Hubert Laws, and he has a very clean and gorgeous tone. I'm really not looking for the dirty tone, but if you are then listen to players who do it well. On the flute a good example I can think of is Jorge Pardo. He's not a strictly jazz player but among all those who play with "the dirty" sound I like what he's doing. It's a matter of taste obviously.

  • @flutecorner

Flute players? Only Hubert Laws. but other instruments Jaco Pastorius, Christian Scott, Miles Davis, etc....

Is there anything I could do with plugins to have more of a jazz sound?

  • @nroblese Thanks Nick. About sound, the first thing I'd say is how much do you listen and to whom? You can't get a good jazz sound and feel without listen to good players. Most great jazz players are not flutists, so I had to look for my sound concept in other instruments, mostly sax and trumpet. The only flutist that really influenced my sound is Hubert Laws, and he plays with a very clear and gorgeous tone.

  • Hi there. First of all, love what you're doing.great sound, great improv! I am a flautist and interested in playing around with the electronic sound aspect, just as you have been doing here. I have looked up your equipment online and I have a question for you. What do you use to attach the PRO70 mic to your flute. I can't make it out in the video and on the sites I've found they're selling clips, but I don't see how a clip would fit on a flute. What do you use?

    Thanks very much!

    Sonia

  • @soniaterhovanessian Thanks Sonia. It's funny because I hardly play with those effects but that got all the views... Anyway, I simply put a small piece off sponge on the edge of the head-joint and then place the mic above it and strap them together with a hair tie. You can attach the mic directly to the flute but the sponge protects it from scratches and I think it works better in general. It's nothing fancy, but it works.

  • :)

  • חבל"ז אודי..... היורש (:

  • Thanks for the feedback, Nick. About the EQ I can't really answer that. Depends first of all on your sound conception and then on your mic, flute, speakers, room etc...

  • hey! this is truly great stuff, and you are a good player!

I have a question. Whats a good EQ for jazz flute?

Im just getting into recording myself.

    Best to you!

    Nick

  • @nroblese Thanks for the comment. About EQ I can't really answer, it depends on too many factors - mic, room, your tone production and more than everything your personal taste.

  • @nroblese My general philosophy for mic'd acoustic instruments is this: if you try to use EQ to create "a sound', you will fail every time. The goal is to reflect the natural (as in what you hear "unplugged") EQ curve of the instrument and not to embellish any particular frequency. Generally the best thing to do is to zero everything out and then incrementally take away from any frequencies that sound overbearing.

  • those little mics are very cool.. nice sounds .. i would love to get one.. thanks for the cool tune.. rhsc nyc

  • Great effects! I need to dust off the RP155 and see what a flute sounds like pushed through it. Thanks for your inspiration!

  • @gyoshoshin Cool, definitely do that.

  • awesome thanks for posting this video great solo

  • Oh yeah, one more thing... what's that mic you have on the flute? And how much was it? =)

  • @fluteloose Thanks so much for your feedback. I use an Audio Technica pro 70 mic. I think it's a great mic, very high quality for a very fair price. I think I got it for about 100$ a few years ago.

  • Fantastic solo man! Awesome tone! :) Great us of the pedal and effects! Congrats!

  • Haha. This style of playing, sans the half-voice half-tone is pretty Tull-ish in nature. Excellent playing.

  • really cool!!

  • Thats brilliant!!!

  • @pipesbillyok Thanks so much. I'm very happy you liked this !

  • Great stuff Udi! :-D

  • Cool stuff. Always loved Joe Farrell w/ that early Return to Forever band.
