  • OK thats wierd like a bird flew into the horn or something

  • could it be a rare horn not just a bad one?

  • That's amazing! Was that a shortline?

  • How is that spooky?

  • What the hell happened to the horn between :57 and 1:03? It sounded fine, and then it just completely changed into a piece of crap!!! What!?!

  • @trinityct It's called vapor lock, when moisture get's in these Leslie's it really screws them up.

  • @norfolksouthernjb And it happens that quickly? Just in a matter of seconds?

  • Awesome video.

  • Definitely an interesting breed, though I've heard much weirder. Though it's got NOTHING to do with B&M rails, one of the more interesting horns that I got on tape (yes, TAPE) was on a 23Z out in Altoona a few years back, which I'll add as a video response. Though it appears that the horn was just fowled, I thought it had a nice ring to it nonetheless.

Oh, and that photo at the end...NIIIIIIIIICE.

  • Spooky indeed! Nice shot. I've noticed that a lot of crossings in the Eastern State's have no bells at all. Why is that? And sometimes that back of the crossing lights are painted entirely silver. :)

  • This one did have a bell, but it was an e-bell, and it was just so quiet compared to the horn that you can't really hear it.

  • theres a responsible truck driver, using his flashers to warn people behind like there supposed to!! Great catch by the way! awesome job

  • @Trainguy74701 Their flashers were on as he is a HAZMAT truck and was stopping anyways to clear the track as required by Federal Law. If you notice right at the very end, he stops again to "clear the track."

  • weird! it changed

  • Cool video!

  • Did someone blend together an RS3L and an RS3K, becuase that's exactly what that horn sounds like. Great shot Matt!

  • that horn would be great ona dark cold halloween night! nice to see an all boxcar train to

  • That horn sounded "WAAY" awesome on the first and second blasts!

  • I Can See It's A 5 Chime Horn, Deffenately A Leslie RS5T

  • @skyman2002 No it's a 3 chime.

  • RS3L or RS3K, or both?!? I've seen some older engines with two sets of chimes (NS and UPY) but Both were usually the same make of horn. Interesting video.

  • no waay, sorry had to do it

  • @AMTRAKAEM7FAN1991 Do what?

  • Is it me or did the horn totally change sound as it got closer??

  • Sounds like a very fouled RS3K Matt. Love the setting for this video, that curve is awesome. You gotta hit up this spot again. Also love that you kept rolling for the whole train. Once again another kickass video Matt!

  • That had to be the STRANGEST horn i've ever heard! Something is seriously fouled, like a big dead bird is in one of bells of that horn!

  • @Mike77E9 Was that bird the word? Has everybody heard that the bird is the word? Peters gonna tell you about the bird! BIRD BIRD BIRD IS THE WORD!!

  • i haven't heard a horn like that in a long time

  • I've heard this horn on an indian locomotive.

  • Interesting. The first two blasts sounded like a partially-fouled RS3L, while the last two blasts sounded like a partially-fouled RS3K.
