Scooby i need some help please im 14 and i got a flat chest(male) i bech and stuff like that cause i got weighlifting class but my chest gets no bigger please help. thanks. 5 stars
Hey man, I'm a long term gym goer - like yourself no doubt. Good video, by the way.
Just a question, at the moment I try to do 3 different routines in sequence. I go to the gym every second day, so run through the workouts in order.
I've had good results so far, and I'm probably in the gym - including weights / cardio / swim - for about 2 to 3 hours total. I try limit my time there to 2 ;)
Any tips? I know this is a vague question :P Forgive me. Thanks again.
Well, if you do a one-arm pushup with perfect form it takes exactly twice the strength of a two handed pushup. However, if you watch most people do one-handers they do NOT use perfect form. They also put quite a torque on your spine that can cause problems for some.
hey how did you get so big? ......... i've been working out now for about year and i just turned 28, is it too late to see good results?i know its a hard sport and its takes a long timeto build muscles...any ideas on how to build a dip stand.. or any other way around the house to do dips like you would do on a dipping stand and recieve the same results?
Nope. Not too late. Scooby is 47 I believe? But bodybuilding takes years, scooby says it took him around 17 years to get his body or so. I personally think that you dont even need a dip stand. You can do a similar exercise with a heavy, sturdy object. You put your hands behind you grabbing on to the object and extend your legs a bit. Then you go down and up slowly. For more resistance put your legs further away from you and less resistance closer.
Genetics play a big part i.e. your body type, how hard you have to work to gain x amount of muscle. Scooby has a mature, non drug physique, something rare today, it's taken him years to get to where he is, of course you can take drugs and be bigger than Scooby in a year.
I got so big by lifting weights for 6500hrs (25 years with five, one hour workouts a week). You have a ways to go to catch up to me :) Dip stands, you can use two chairs if you are careful.
i have a question : if i lift the same weight and gradually i increase the number of reps ... can this help me gain weight and build muscle? without any supplements, only proper nutriton
Not for this, Nobel prize for your contribution to the society. You inspired many people including me to start natural bodybuilding.
And I posted the comment for Nobel prize "Thanks, Scooby! You really deserve a Nobel prize." as an answer because you care about your viewers and because you are going to make a "Killer Ab Workout" video!
Doing the killer ab workout will be fun. About the Nobel peace prize, it would be an amazing honor but I'd rather have Oprah mention the website on her show - I could reach a lot more people with an Oprah endorsement than I could with a Nobel prize. How twisted is that?
Hey, skoobs. I personally think that it is better to lift and then do cardio, because lifting takes up a lot of energy in a short period of time, and after wasting that energy, you can go about doing cardio for virtually hours, of course being very tired, but it's possible. So, my question is what is better- to lift weights firs and then cardio or viceversa?
I eat burgers, Fried Chicken, Fries, Pizza, Rice, Eggs almost everyday. I have me an apple atleast 3 times a week. My body is almost as strong as scooby. Yippie. You have a great body scoob. What age did you start working out?
hey scooby iv watched all your vids wanted to say i love them but i got a question about hard gaining is there anyway i can email you i looked out ''hard gainers'' a lot and have been having some problems
Hey Everybody, Please help me design a T-shirt! There is a link on the home page of my website for the T-shirt design contest. I'm not witty or artistic and I know that a lot of you are and I would really appreciate your help!!!!
your videos are so helpful but people still try and find ways to put them down and make fun of you. i would love it if you made a video of you doing your max bench, most amount of push ups or pull ups in a sitting. or something like that, you know, a video just to show off
I have found that these comments need to be moderated because people start to get rather disrespectful and uncivil if they are not gently reminded now and then that I try to promote a positive atmosphere where people can ask questions and state their point of view without being called names.
Yeah I understand how people are over the internet..They feel they can say anything because nobody knows who they are...Sucks for the rest of us that actually have relevant questions. Anyways, keep up the great videos!
scooby, I have been following your youtube and workshop site for about a month and have got very good results (I got injured a year ago and let myself go), do you recommend flat bench press(barbell press), I have never seen anything about it on your channels.
hey i noe tis comment is not relevant to tis video but i nid tips on chest workouts. im not showin any progress. i do workouts with slow and good forms, regularly and watch my nutrition. my arms had developed but my chest juz doesnt. is it genetic?
It depends on how long you have been doing this. Keep in mind that strength comes before size. If you can do more reps with more weight than at the beginning you should be right on track.
Your pull-up bar seems to be attached to the ceiling with some very narrow pieces of metal, heh. It looks worrying to me, but I'm sure you know what you're doing. I'm just surprised they seem to be able to hold your weight just fine.
Ghetto is good! BTW, there is a great "ghetto workout" video (do a youtube search) that shows that you can develop an incredible physique just using an inner-city park. Check it out.
Yes, those doorway pullup bars seem to work. Check out my website under "Basics>Equipment" for some ideas on which you can buy.
are u going to make another vid on using it? because when you were showing the abs exercises you can do it just looked like you were pulling on it with your arm
hi scooby, love u movies man. I'm doing gym for 3 years, and i dont get so sore now, to grown muscles we need to feel sore all the other days? Thx man, keep the good videos.
The problem is not on working out, but working with weights. It's a little bit dangerous for youngsters. I wouldn't personally discourage weights for a 16 year old, but would sure not recommend heavy weights.
Because it messed up your growth and development. My personal reason is that: If you start working out early in life, when you grow up, you dont know what job or what kind of life you will have, and you dont know if you will have the time to continue working out at the pace you did when you were young, leading to your muscle dissolving into fat.
lol what? my reason is lack of parenthood and its just this generation but if you have a really strong mind with the help of good family or parent youll be fyne.
not at al it dont affect your growth at all. ive done it since i was 14 but my dad use to come with me and make sure i did everything right and good form. only danger of starting when your young is been cocky and trying to show off to your mates doing heavy weights and not doing them right...
FINALLY. A chance to post in one of your videos. I have to say, I don't know whats with the people who post on these. But why do you guys always rip on people asking for help and posting legitimate questions?
That being said, how important is stretching in your routines. I haven't found any videos regarding stretching specifically from you.
I strongly believe in stretching (hamstrings specifically)in helping to prevent lower back pain, I have been doing this daily for years. However, I have not found stretching to be an important part of bodybuilding, that is, it doesnt seem to make muscles larger, stronger, or prevent injury. In fact, from what I have seen stretching seems to cause more injuries than it prevents. I much prefer doing warmup sets as a preparation method. Most people are too jerky/forceful while stretching & injur
Hey scooby how are we to put the pully system in our houses if we don't that type of pull up bar in the house ??? where we to connect the caribeaner to ?
Nobody can say that without knowing the place you live. If you got a sturdy ceiling, you could set up the pulley system there, but then again you should do the pullup bar first.
Safest thing to say is: If you don't know how to do it have it done by someone who does.
Scooby If I want to increase the size of my abs, will crunches with my hands behind my head be enough? I usually do about 3 sets of 50 crunches - could do more but is it needed? And would it be safe to do crunches with a weight plate since I'm only 15? (Well a heavy math text book not a plate :P)
Do Scooby's crunches. That means do them without bending your spine and head up. You will be surprised at how much harder crunches would be if you do them the way he does. If you can do 50 a set, you're probably going way too fast and bending your spine upwards. Why not to bend upwards? When people do that, they think they're going up and doing a quality rep. But what they're really doing is bending. Scooby's crunches are harder because you have to go slow and avoid bending. Bending sucks.
ah I see what you mean parichtang, I was slightly bending my upper back but keeping my neck straight. So I keep my back dead straight now and yeah it is harder.
oh ya, thanks scooby for your comments . =)but you know your video the roller ? the exercise that is great for chest =) in singapore there's no such dumbell like yours . singapore dumbell are diffrent is there anything i can roll ?. =) thanks. reply asap =D
Why do you want steroids? You can build an amazing body without them and avoid the possible legal and health problems that they present. It takes longer without steroids but its worth it! Pelase check out my website.
Right on the money Scooby. You don't need performance enhancing drugs of any kind, not even protein shakes, to build an amazing body. Recently though, one guy on Youtube was lecturing me through messages about how he has never seen a steroid user on roid rage. He sounded like he was teaching an idiot. He says steroids don't really destroy people, that it's just the gov's conpiracy campaign to fool people. I totally disagree. What do you say?
About your last reply regarding lat pulldown bars, I think they worked better for me (when I used to go to a gym) as a compound exercise in every aspect than straight bars. They provide better form and more lat emphasis at a different angle because of the way they bend down. I developed back strength far more faster than using straight bars to do pull ups. Do you recommend workout towers?
I dont do any powerlifting type exercises, so 0lbs, 0lbs, 0lbs and 0lbs - I am SO weak! :) At my age its not worth the risk to my joints to do these exercises.
Twisted86: Is that where you keep your dental care products? Seriously though, don't lock Scooby in the freezer- I think it would be dangerous to have that much coolness in one place at one time.
I do keep a toothbrush in my pocket but I'd have to resort to my cutting torch to get out of the fridge. But seriously, who'd WANT to get out a fully stocked fridge? I LIVE to eat which is why I will never have 4% bodyfat despite my 3hrs per day of cardio.
Actually only about 5-7 people have ever recognized me from my videos. I dont get out much though. Funny though, people at gyms never seem to recognize me but its just random people on the street. Was buying welding supplies last week and the nice guy I have bought from for years said "NOW, I know why you always looked so familiar!"
Scooby for PRESIDENT!! The platform being fitness (safe fitness, of course) for everyone, right? And free handmade pulleys for all! And to each his own Hans! Let's start a draft while there's still time! love gare
what can I do about food cravings? i avoid them as much as possible and that results in binging. and why does vegetable oil and corn oil have so much fat if the veggies themselves have none at all?
He he funny midget gnomes with chimpmunk voices crack me up. Anyway, to answer your first question, cravings are normal. Even hardcore bodybuilders get them. They are a survival instinct that came from our ancestors who needed fat to survive, just eat what you crave in moderation, but dont kill yourself and not eat any "fatty" foods at all, just do so in moderation. A small bag of baked hot cheetos everyday does it for me :) as for the fat in oil, thats a good question. Can't say i know.
I do that. Burgers, Pizza, Soda, whatever I want. It's usually the day off after my 4 days of weight lifting, after which I run for 90 minutes and the cycle begins again. Since I'm good on the other days, it doesn't hurt too much.
Hey scooby, I dont know which whey protein brand to buy? I want to build muscle avoiding calories from fat... So which one do you recommanded? optimum nutrition? or the EAS 100% whey that you used in your nutrition video of abs? I am currently 135 pounds, and I need to gain size and mass avoiding fat...
I try my best to get protein without using whey powders but can't get enough because of tight schedule so I have to get on some whey shake... Which brand should I use if not outta those 2
If you have the money, get the Optimum Nutrition product with all three of the words "100% Natural, and Whey" in the name. If you are on a budget, get whatever Costco or Walmart has thats cheap. Check my website for links to the ON product.
I don't know about Walmart brand Scooby. I tried that and didn't see any real results. As soon as I changed over to a different product (Muscle Milk I believe) I started to see results pretty quickly.
See results? Protein powder and protein shakes are not some magical potion, they are just food. With hard, consistent lifting and good nutrition, a good years gain would be 5lbs of muscle. It would take years to see any difference between one protein powder and another.

Hey Scooby. I started recently watching your videos and i love them. Particularly your killer home chest exercise. I've also found your site very useful. Thank You for all your help!
scooby do you have a msn so ui can get more advice from you =D cause youtube got alot of people scolding and making stupid comments.. making and forcing you block comments and your parents get scolded from nothing i feel sorry for you
Lots of great ways to get injured! I'd love to do a comedy video mocking all the horrible and dangerous stuff I've seen at gyms. Trouble is, I'd have to film it in a gym and no gym owner in their right mind would want me filming a three-stooges type movie in their gym :) Any gym owners who would let me film, I'd love to hear from you!
oh ya scooby i found that push up work for me but i can't seem to get rid of my belly fat i got abit of belly fat cause i can kinda see my abs 6packs but some fat covering may i get your advice please ?
Thank you so much for this video! It's a great idea and I have a room I'm building for my workout space, just happens to have plenty of beams that are accessible, I found the mountaineering supplies at backcountry for 20% off! Thanks again, your videos are very much appreciated.
I love your videos, but this one seems like a litle bit too much work just to work out and not to mention unsafe if you don't know much about your ceilings and how much weight they can hold....hmmmm..
haha i love your videos man. this one was pretty informative although i probably wont need to use it what with my gym membership and all. you really should make a few videos completely dedicated to the gnomes too btw lol
Great idea Scooby, I have been building "home" training equipment for a while now for the days I can't make it to the gym or don't feel like going...access to free weights and simple devises like your pulley idea are all a person needs to get in a fast but efficient workout.
By the way, your diet idea has worked great for me...I did beef up the protein a bit and kept the EFA's my normal level. Down 20lbs.
Thanks for taking the time to produce your videos.
Hey scooby i was wondering if you have any tips on forearm and wrist workouts. Everything else you have shown i have put into practice, slow perfect form etc. I have been working out for a number of years now and what lets me down is my grip strength and ability to lift with my forearms.
Yoho - one of the best exercise for building grip strength is Farmer Walks. Take a pair of heavy dumbbells or if you don't have any just fill a couple of five gallon buckets with water and walk around with them. Make laps in the gym carrying the dumbbells.
The exercise is not designed to build muscle on the forearms but it sure will build grip strength.
Lmao the gnome bit made me laugh hahaha, damn great work this is wicked, if i was any good at DIY i'd make 1 but i wouldn't trust myself lol, if your ever in England & need some work let me know. :)
Hey scoob, good video again. Right now I go to a gym, but soon I won't have the possibility any more. Do you think a good home workout can completely replace the gym? Do you only train at home, or do you go to a gym as well?
Hey, in my opinion I don't think a home gym could completely replace a normal gym. I mean you wouldn't have all the fancy smith machines, lat pull down machines, etc machines. But in my opinion I think a home gym can be just as efficient as a gym outside. Just make sure you have some basic things. Because if you notice something, you probably don't use all the things in the gym. You probably only use barbells, dumbbells, etc. So yea there's my summary LOL!
I actually like smith machines for doing bench press and inclines because they have adjustable safety stops so I can safely limit my range of motion. Its one of the few chest machines I will use.
Scooby, do you live in Florida? You always seem to have a great tan. I also enjoy your videos, very educational. You hit it right on the button with nutrition and doing what works for your body, if you're lifting and staying drug-free.
nice vid Scoob. trying to find out were can i install this contraption....
anyways keep up the good work

I enjoy your videos because you always talk about safety and the proper way to work out.
For example, you talked about the proper way of doing push ups so as not to put too much strain on the wrist in one of your videos.
I think your videos are some of the best for people wanting to work out in a safe way.

not at al it dont affect your growth at all. ive done it since i was 14 but my dad use to come with me and make sure i did everything right and good form. only danger of starting when your young is been cocky and trying to show off to your mates doing heavy weights and not doing them right...
696TheDon696 3 years ago
im a 15 yr old and i was wondering if i cant lift weights, is it okay if i just do bodyweight-only exercises? pushups, pullups, crunches, ect?
mommyuser9076 3 years ago
Sure doing bodyweight exercises is perfect! Go for it!

FINALLY. A chance to post in one of your videos. I have to say, I don't know whats with the people who post on these. But why do you guys always rip on people asking for help and posting legitimate questions?
That being said, how important is stretching in your routines. I haven't found any videos regarding stretching specifically from you.
PremusRed 3 years ago

RANGERFaNaTiC534 3 years ago
Nobody can say that without knowing the place you live. If you got a sturdy ceiling, you could set up the pulley system there, but then again you should do the pullup bar first.
Safest thing to say is: If you don't know how to do it have it done by someone who does.

Scooby If I want to increase the size of my abs, will crunches with my hands behind my head be enough? I usually do about 3 sets of 50 crunches - could do more but is it needed? And would it be safe to do crunches with a weight plate since I'm only 15? (Well a heavy math text book not a plate :P)
arthurfoxshot 3 years ago
Do Scooby's crunches. That means do them without bending your spine and head up. You will be surprised at how much harder crunches would be if you do them the way he does. If you can do 50 a set, you're probably going way too fast and bending your spine upwards. Why not to bend upwards? When people do that, they think they're going up and doing a quality rep. But what they're really doing is bending. Scooby's crunches are harder because you have to go slow and avoid bending. Bending sucks.
parichtang 3 years ago
Exactly.
Evilcyber 3 years ago
ah I see what you mean parichtang, I was slightly bending my upper back but keeping my neck straight. So I keep my back dead straight now and yeah it is harder.

Muhsroomhead 3 years ago
Why do you want steroids? You can build an amazing body without them and avoid the possible legal and health problems that they present. It takes longer without steroids but its worth it! Pelase check out my website.
scooby1961 3 years ago
Right on the money Scooby. You don't need performance enhancing drugs of any kind, not even protein shakes, to build an amazing body. Recently though, one guy on Youtube was lecturing me through messages about how he has never seen a steroid user on roid rage. He sounded like he was teaching an idiot. He says steroids don't really destroy people, that it's just the gov's conpiracy campaign to fool people. I totally disagree. What do you say?
parichtang 3 years ago
About your last reply regarding lat pulldown bars, I think they worked better for me (when I used to go to a gym) as a compound exercise in every aspect than straight bars. They provide better form and more lat emphasis at a different angle because of the way they bend down. I developed back strength far more faster than using straight bars to do pull ups. Do you recommend workout towers?
parichtang 3 years ago
You make it sound funny. You're like "please help me buy steroids"

hey scooby, u look great. whats your lifting stats? im talking bench, squat, dead, military press, and bent-over rows

I dont do any powerlifting type exercises, so 0lbs, 0lbs, 0lbs and 0lbs - I am SO weak! :) At my age its not worth the risk to my joints to do these exercises.

Still great videos as always and a genius idea of a homemade made gym :)

Was buying welding supplies last week and the nice guy I have bought from for years said "NOW, I know why you always looked so familiar!"

what can I do about food cravings? i avoid them as much as possible and that results in binging. and why does vegetable oil and corn oil have so much fat if the veggies themselves have none at all?
PitchBlackForecast 3 years ago
He he funny midget gnomes with chimpmunk voices crack me up. Anyway, to answer your first question, cravings are normal. Even hardcore bodybuilders get them. They are a survival instinct that came from our ancestors who needed fat to survive, just eat what you crave in moderation, but dont kill yourself and not eat any "fatty" foods at all, just do so in moderation. A small bag of baked hot cheetos everyday does it for me :) as for the fat in oil, thats a good question. Can't say i know.
Muhsroomhead 3 years ago
Have a 'bad food day' once a week when you can relax the food rules a bit. Dont go overboard though, just enough to satisfy the cravings.
scooby1961 3 years ago
I do that. Burgers, Pizza, Soda, whatever I want. It's usually the day off after my 4 days of weight lifting, after which I run for 90 minutes and the cycle begins again. Since I'm good on the other days, it doesn't hurt too much.
Enygma702 3 years ago
food craveings should be countered with water. Drink as much of is as you can. Thats what i do inbetween eating, drink drink drink. It really works.

Which brand should I use if not outta those 2
zzackir 3 years ago
How about you try the powder Scooby recommends on his website?
Evilcyber 3 years ago
If you have the money, get the Optimum Nutrition product with all three of the words "100% Natural, and Whey" in the name. If you are on a budget, get whatever Costco or Walmart has thats cheap. Check my website for links to the ON product.
scooby1961 3 years ago
I don't know about Walmart brand Scooby. I tried that and didn't see any real results. As soon as I changed over to a different product (Muscle Milk I believe) I started to see results pretty quickly.
cubefreak123 3 years ago
See results? Protein powder and protein shakes are not some magical potion, they are just food. With hard, consistent lifting and good nutrition, a good years gain would be 5lbs of muscle. It would take years to see any difference between one protein powder and another.

Lots of great ways to get injured! I'd love to do a comedy video mocking all the horrible and dangerous stuff I've seen at gyms. Trouble is, I'd have to film it in a gym and no gym owner in their right mind would want me filming a three-stooges type movie in their gym :) Any gym owners who would let me film, I'd love to hear from you!

fatalityhawk 3 years ago
Great idea Scooby, I have been building "home" training equipment for a while now for the days I can't make it to the gym or don't feel like going...access to free weights and simple devises like your pulley idea are all a person needs to get in a fast but efficient workout.
By the way, your diet idea has worked great for me...I did beef up the protein a bit and kept the EFA's my normal level. Down 20lbs.
Thanks for taking the time to produce your videos.
artvin1001 3 years ago
Hey scooby i was wondering if you have any tips on forearm and wrist workouts. Everything else you have shown i have put into practice, slow perfect form etc. I have been working out for a number of years now and what lets me down is my grip strength and ability to lift with my forearms.
yohodiablo 3 years ago
Yoho - one of the best exercise for building grip strength is Farmer Walks. Take a pair of heavy dumbbells or if you don't have any just fill a couple of five gallon buckets with water and walk around with them. Make laps in the gym carrying the dumbbells.
The exercise is not designed to build muscle on the forearms but it sure will build grip strength.
artvin1001 3 years ago
thanks. I tried them this morning at the gym and i really felt that it worked. this is part of my routine now. Cheers.

Hey scoob, good video again. Right now I go to a gym, but soon I won't have the possibility any more. Do you think a good home workout can completely replace the gym? Do you only train at home, or do you go to a gym as well?
MadDibby 3 years ago
Hey, in my opinion I don't think a home gym could completely replace a normal gym. I mean you wouldn't have all the fancy smith machines, lat pull down machines, etc machines. But in my opinion I think a home gym can be just as efficient as a gym outside. Just make sure you have some basic things. Because if you notice something, you probably don't use all the things in the gym. You probably only use barbells, dumbbells, etc. So yea there's my summary LOL!
thiefinkids 3 years ago
why would you ever use a smith machine?
DaBoulLiv215 3 years ago
I actually like smith machines for doing bench press and inclines because they have adjustable safety stops so I can safely limit my range of motion. Its one of the few chest machines I will use.
