This is a brilliant scene... Beethoven has perfect pitch - Ive been wondering how he wrote this... this is amazing. Ed Harris potrays Beethoven passion for music extreamly well.
First of all, it's a movie and most all movies share similarities in one way or another. However, your missing the point. One being that Salieri was portraying a jealous crook, stealing from Mozart, even on his death bed. Where as this is more motivated toward a very tender moment between two close friends in the realm of Gods' mercy, at the end of life
Exactly what I thought watching this...as much as I love watching the creations of pieces this took me away from the movie with thoughts of Mozart and Salieri. Still enjoyed the movie enough to overlook obvious fiction and moments like this.
if I could make a movie about beethoven starring ed harris it'd take place in a spaceship. If I could reshoot this particular scene, beethoven would be dictating notation to houston from outerspace and most importantly of all there wouldn't be any music because sound doesn't travel in space.
Funny how composers all seem to want to end their lives with one final piece of music, dictating it to those they trust most. Oh, wait, was that too realistic for more than one composer to want to do?
Quite the contrary. Neither Amadeus or Copying Beethoven are based are 100%( or 50% for that matter) true facts.
This scene is plagerism at its best. Or is it that all composers should dictate( on their deathbed)to someone they trust or music will become a "dying art"?
You must also believe that Mozart was murdered by Salieri? Is it a nice scene? Yes!
True? I'm not buying.
I have a bridge for sale. I'll give you a good price.
I think this is the best and the most impressive beautiful scene of this movie. I am a Japanese and I am not good at English but I really love this movie. I saw it 6 times at the theater already :P
the film is ambicious. not for everyone. its making questrions where is no answers in the movie. thats why is soo good. i like it couse its maked well, and i like very much XVIII/XIX century. great costumes and architecture. all this was welll showed in the movie. oscrar for them. :] couse i hope that more oscars will go to ambicious films.
This scene is utterly ridiculous. Beethoven was not only stone deaf after 1815, but he never could read lips.

I thought there were only 16 Late String Quartets.
Is this not a movement in one of them?

why is the pitch up a half-step? Is the pitch of A that much higher in Europe, or is it a recording problem?
calebprime 3 years ago
probably compression problem ;) things look and sound much when not pushed in to flash ;)

I like how he goes from "notes" to "pictures".. but yall right, it's too similar to Amadeus' ending.

Ripped off from Amadeus. I take it as an homage to the immortal "Confutatis" writing scene...

No wonder music is a dying art.

You can't go wrong with Beethoven; Unfortunatley that can't be said for all the films about him. This appears to be sufficiently inconsistent.

What piece is this? Tis beautiful!

The beethoven "piece" is Op. 132 Quartet in A minor, 3. Molto adagio.
The emerson quartet play it very well.
