Well...This is Just another Example Of...Nature..Crows Will Attack Smaller Species(Winged or not) Have Seen For myself....And yet... I have Seen Hawks And Eagles...Trying To get an Early Breakfast Out Of The Crows "New" hatchlings right from thier nests....I think That...What disgusts Us Humans is How"Brutal"It All Is."The Survival Of that species"..But Now if You can.. think on this."If There was some other intelligent Race that Looked Down upon ...Would they Not Say The Same About us?".
So this must be quite common cause i saw something very similar in Greece. Last year i saw 2 ravens catching a pigeon in the air, bringing it down and killing it in less than 2 minutes. I thought that this behaviour was somewhat strange but now i see it is common practice. Amazing birds.
@idope good one ,, I like them too ..!! Have a family come to the back for peanuts every day ... I find them cool as hell ,, intelligent as hell too .. good looking big birds !! their haters are unwarranted !!
@Metallica891FAN why ?? what a fuckin retarded thing to do or say even.. you have some love for injured pigeons ?? that would lay there ,, die and rot otherwise?? the dumb fuckin thing likely got hit by a car or kicked by some cruel prick while it was picking around for gravel along the roadway .. the crows are the clean up squad .. too many dickheads have wrong idea about crows....
@guahould if you think the crows are a "cleaning squad" you have no idea about hunting traditions in norway. if you kill crows here you get money, because it`s a bird that eats grouse- eggs and trash.
@Metallica891FAN ummm ,, "and trash" that is ?? grabage?? hence =clean up squad ,.. they will eat grouse eggs if they can find a nest I guess .. what egg eating animal wouldnt ... ?? weasels ,, raccoons ,, rats ,, ferrets ,, ermines ,, whatever lives in your area .. lol you have some pet grouse?? Im sure in some areas they may be thought of as pests.. but to want to run out killing crows because you watched a clip showing them taking care of a wounded pidgeon is kinda nuts... peace!
@tonightwefly Crows are inherently timid .. they are constantly persecuted by people simply because they are crows ... the crows know this and are likely concerned about the possibility that some prick lay waiting with his sling shot or some other kind of trap for them ,, using the pigeon as bait.. cautious birds they are .. few blows from the crows beaks and the pigeon would be finished ,, better than suffering all day ,, or having some dummy trying to "save" it ,, only extending its suffering.
@bunisrock93 of course its in our nature to want to help, but them unlike us do not feel pity..they are acting on natural instict, and the need to survive, which makes them strong survivers
This is why crow populations need to be reduced not because of pigeons they are too numerous too but crows kill millions of songbirds every year. Crows also destroy millions of dollars worth of crops each year which makes the price of beef go up. If people don't mind paying $10 a pound for beef then by all means let the crows alone. Nobody wants to think it out that far ahead the PETA folks and tree huggers just think oh poor crows I say shoot as many as you can.
@freddyfast9 LMAO @ connecting crows to expensive beef ..... oh boy ... I think it is likely because the golden finches ate to much grass seed ,, or maybe it was the sparrows .. If the "dumb" ones end up showing the opportunistic birds where their nest is ,, they will not be the "survivors of the fittest" will they ?? Blue Jays ,, Grackles ,, Starlings ,, Hawks ,, Owls ,, Stray fkn cats ,, Raccoons ,, rats ,, weasels ,, squirrels ,, chipmunks ,, they will all snack on a nestling !!!!
Well all of the Corvid family, have that "borderline" bird of prey instinct about them. They may be, our largest songbirds, but one would never know it with this video footage. Just fascinating.......I've seen Blue Jays, which are in the very same family, take down and kill mice by themselves no less!!! However, Blue Jays kill with pure beak power to the back of the neck, where as Crows & Ravens may lack the talons of a bird of prey, but are still long and strong enough, to pin smaller prey with
This is incredible footage...!!!!!!!! However, at the same time, it doesn't surprise me either. Crows & Ravens, may be our largest songbirds, but there predatory nature certainly puts them more into the Raptor family. For starters, they rarely take down a healthy animal, but are VERY opportunistic, when it comes the wounded. And this was quite apparent, in this video with this Rock Dove aka "City Pigeon". That said, even though the video didn't show what happened, i'm sure they killed this bird.
Yes they did kill the pigeon after about 20 minutes , then to my surprise 1 of the crows actually picked it up and flew over the fence with it and unfortunatly out of sight...
Pidgeon, son, you are in the wrong part of town.

Was the pigeon imobilised when the crows got there, or did they actually injure it first, so it couldn't fly any more?
