As far as ATC are concern, they are making a stressful job. American ATC is extremely RUDE most of the time. To have a joke on approach after 7 to 12 hours flight won't make any harm. The pilots know what they're doing, ATC just guiding. No point pilots fly by wire if they still go manual to land when you learned to land on CAT I II II. Compliment to ATC guy. Cheerful morning when I land in AMS.

@MrStatguy Yes - flying is stressfull, as is keeping hundreds of aeroplanes from flying into each other (or trying to land on the same runway, for that matter). Humour is one excellent way of pushing fatigue away, and promoting aviation safety.

The best weather conditions in the Netherlands are comparable with the worst in some parts of the U.S. for example. Dutch ATC and aircrew operate in a highly congested part of European airspace in adverse weather conditions and are highly competent. They deserve a joke or two.

As a private pilot I had my fair share of similar 'greetings' by ATC and especially when circumstances are less favourable it feels a lot better than listening to some nagging robot.

No I can assure you that is how the ATC talks in AMS . They are generally pretty relaxed some times too relaxed! But they are sharp I rather a relaxed but competent ATC than an anal panicky Muppet's with no sense of humour you get in plenty of other Primary Airports which I wont list for fear of trolling.
