lol last year, and the year before we kicked ass. this year, they're all girls.. and they suck dick.. they can't do anything we could pull off when me and one of my friends were on there.. but now we're both on flat drums, so its all good.
apparently, we mark time to make sure we don't get off beat. Its marching band, not standing band, and we are the beat of the band. Why would a drumline not mark time. Even Drumlines in DCI mark time playing through the show music. Gosh ppl.
If you play in a percussion ensemble (of a marching band or drum corps, or whatever) you're concentrating a lot on the percussion part and don't listen so much to the "melody" of the whole piece, so you definitely need to mark the time.
Especially if your line is playing a cadence like this where there's no melody at all!

In 2006 and 2007...the center snare was Sam Hodge.

I love how when the snares are marking time, they rock back and forth.

the basses need to focus on hitting the center of the drum most of them are hitting too high

Yeah....cuz when I think of people who are experts at playing bass drum, I think of Saint Albans.

fucking HUGE line. sounds clean too. simple beats though.

It's college... it's about quality of notes, not quantity. With a band of 280+, clarity is key to staying on beat.
clarkbar225 5 years ago
that makes sense... and what do you mean by saint albans. is that a good or a bad thing you said?

woo hoo.. go herd! =)

Spock drum, shot drum, gock drum. Whatever you wanna call it...putting tips in the tiny tenor??? WTF does that mean.
clarkbar225 5 years ago
its a thing marshall does.
sahsdrumline 5 years ago
Yeah...we like to call it the "drum fund". Usually a tech will bring an extra tenor so people can "tip" us.
clarkbar225 5 years ago
LOL are they putting tips in the tiny tenor (its called a spock right?)
