I read about Paulson being shipwrecked today in the gospel and am strengthened by the God who filled men like Paul with faith hope love and outright compassion and abadonment of self
One of my all time favorites from High School. Thanks @christianboots for this upload. This song still touches my heart 15 years later. Rich is making greater music in the presence of his Savior then he could dreamed of here on earth.
I don't know if it's the same thing or not, but when my husband and I saw him in concert, he wanted very little attention on himself, but all on God. When the crowd called for an encore, he came and spoke of how all glory was to God and not him, and then started the Doxology. The crowd joined in and the lights went dim while we all sang. The concert officially ended with the crowd singing to God. I can't help but wonder if he had already closed out the concert and sang this last song
There's more power in this chorus than in any writing of man, I truly believe. As someone going through the full spectrum of the human experience at the moment, I will tell you there's an awesome power in both the standing and the falling on God's grace, in the singing for joy and weeping for home. A part of me wishes it over. Another part, however, and I'd like to think it's the part that fully appreciates the sentiment of this song, understands that calm seas do not make skilled sailors.
So true, my brother, that calm seas cannot build skilled sailors. Yet He is faithful and provides grace through our journeys, in this case, a light in the form of praise from Rich. We can all sing along and certainly it is pleasing to Him.
I have always loved this man ...but I also respect the fact that he must of been called to a single life of ministry for winning souls and healing through his music ..If I was to ever of had the chance to be his wifee ....I bet he would of been one great husband !!! cause he loves the Lord so much and this kind of man is hard to find ...
It was said of Rich Mullins by those who knew him best that he lived his life with one foot already in heaven and the other here on earth.... what an amazing thing to have said of you. You can hear the evidence of that here.... "if I weep let it be as a man who is longing for his home." Amen.
@catmutterer - I disagree. I mean, it sucks for us, but no - he left the day that God planned before Rich was born. and look, here we are, still being ministered to by him! I would not wish him back from where he is now for anything :)
My wife and I used this song for her processional in our wedding last year -- I got my groomsmen to come up with an acappella arrangement of it.
I think the applause was fine. Some people fall in love with Mullins's music, and I think those who do, find it to be some of the best Christian music there is. But if someone doesn't have the same experience, I wouldn't want to accuse them of being less spiritual. Anyway, I can't imagine Rich wanting that.
This was during chapel, which is a required time three times a week in the middle of the school day. We all have classes right after chapel, which is why they were packing up and leaving so fast.
@Highpriestess42 I understand orderliness and stewardship of time; however, our relationship with the Father is a priority over a schedule. Please know I am speaking as a follower of Jesus the Christ, missionary, and seminary professor/dean. This is an example of balancing grace and law in our daily lives.
I struggled in college so much in getting good grades and passing classes. Often I failed classes which made me feel like crap. Rich Mullins taught me during my college years the ever importance of grace and what my hope is really in. I wish he was able to come to my university when I was there, the light he must have shown to many students in that room who struggled much like me!!
the date of this recording really makes one think. so soon after he would be taken home. this was my favorite song of his...and there were many excellent songs to choose from.
Though the body is gone, The Ministry lives on. God still uses Richard Mullins for his Kingdom, even long after the body is gone, God is still at work Amen.
His reward is found in Heaven, I doubt that he was looking for praise... But I do follow what you mean, this is a master piece that people failed and still fail to recognize... I find it so sad that he is not played more on the radio... and I was not ever really alive when he was alive!

My favorite song from Rich, I can't believe the crowd gave him such a small clap and then packed up and get out of their so fast... if they had only known that might be the last time they hear him.
@dclaymoore I've seen this kind of behavior from Christians in other "concerts"... many just want to be entertained. Rich was a giant of faith walking among pixies.
@dclaymoore - Oh, no - Rich never wanted applause, No, i remember a show where he had us all singing with our eyes shut and by the time we opened them, he was gone and we were there, alone with GOD. It was so cool. And that is what Rich Mullins was all about - look at Jesus. Look at God showing Himself to you in nature! Look at the trees! Isn't His creation neat? And wasn't it so very kind of that same God to give us this man who used his gifts and imperfections to point us to Jesus?!! Yes!!
Rich was amazing yet very humble. I think the only reason the students got up was only after Rich got up and was leaving. This appears to simply be some sort of class or assembly. I don't think it was a concert.

Does anybody know what kind of presentation it was?
Doesn't seem like a regular concert, maybe a conference?

Did he dismiss them as a joke?
The way he trudges off it seems like he was being mischievous.
