  • But without these things I cannot live; and by your wanting to take them away from me, or from any human creature, I know that your counsel is of the devil, and that mine is of God. THERE YOU GO :)

  • I could do without my war horse; I could drag about in a skirt; I could let the banners and the trumpets and the knights and soldiers pass me and leave me behind as they leave the other women, if only I could still hear the wind in the trees, the larks in the sunshine, the young lambs crying through the healthy frost, and the blessed blessed church bells that send my angel voices floating to me on the wind.

  • ...But to shut me from the light of the sky and the sight of the fields and flowers; to chain my feet so that I can never again ride with the soldiers nor climb the hills; to make me breathe foul damp darkness, and keep from me everything that brings me back to the love of God when your wickedness and foolishness tempt me to hate Him: all this is worse than the furnace in the Bible that was heated seven times.

  • This is the whole monologue: Yes: they told me you were fools (the word gives great offence), and that I was not to listen to your fine words nor trust to your charity. You promised me my life; but you lied (indignant exclamations). You think that life is nothing but not being stone dead. It is not the bread and water I fear; I can live on bread; when have I asked for more? It is no hardship to drink the water if the water be clean. Bread has no sorrow for me, and water no affliction...

  • Where can I find this monologue online?

  • Why isnt she in films?!?! shes brilliant!

  • I got goose bumps 5 seconds into this and I don't even know who St. Joan IS! And I cried at the end. I'm so sad. That was beautiful. I always go into the bathroom and look in a mirror and make up instances where I'm sad or someone else or in a certain mood and start crying and get all emotional and I didn't think there was a name for that type of thing, NOW I know it's called the Amy Walker. !

  • this is great. this is what i need because i will also be presenting this monologue. it's challenging and very different from my character but after seeing Amy, she is truly amazing. she gave me ideas on how to present it. even if there were no gestures, the emotion, attitude and the delivery of lines showed the character. amazing.

  • i no someone just like amy walker she can sing and act really well she always makes me laugh but she is a young carer she looks after her mum with MS and brother who is blind and her dad has anger ishues so she often comes into school with cuts and burns on her hands and face she is the funnyest person i know thumbs up for rosa .

  • of all of the renditions of this monologue I have seen, yours by far is the best. you portray the emotions and the greif with such subtlety that a lot of other preformers can't grasp. love it.

  • Wow. Just...wow. Absolutely fantastic.

  • I got goose bumps.

  • héhe_I_fEÊl_sø_lÔÑèly_tÓDÃÿ

  • Amazinggg! :D xxx

  • I have felt this watching you. Why aren't you in acting?

  • I am speechless and I can only think on the sorrow and loss of St. Joan for you have played her with perfection.

  • This is great - for the stage. In a YouTube box, it's OTT theatrical ham camp acting by a girl who plucks her eyebrows too much.

  • Somebody tell me !! why did i wanna hug her !?

  • @Samuel0Aleksej the emotion is called empathy, it is art of great theater and film to make each human soul connect to the story in a special way and thereby evolve... amy actually has a song she wrote as a parody on how actors do not/can not perform great roles in great films until they play a vampire queen, etc.

some of us get really pissy when it comes to shoddy work holywood can produce (that new adam sandler one) & get called snobs. but this is why we are so. we want works to move us

  • out of all the diferent renditions of this monologue I have seen, I can say yours is definately one of the best. i love it.

  • Saint Joan Of Arc The Greatest Christian Saint Ever And A Great Freedom Fighter Her Sacrifice For Jesus And France Is Beyond Comparison.

  • i was put in a secure unit when i was 14 ,1984,when the chips are down ill be around with my undying death defying love for you,

  • im getting a bit of overacting but that might just be the style of stage performance versus like movies?

  • @inicc me too

  • o...m...g i actually had to do this monologue for my theater class and i wasn't sure how to do it since me and this character are very different but after watching this video i feel i have a better view of this character more than i ever had on my own. Thank you I just know I'll ROCK this audition because you truly lit the fire in my heart to do Saint Joan proud when i go on stage ^_^

  • whd2002 - wow, fail? this is the best version of this monologue I've yet on youtube, I only wish it was the whole thing. her expressions are absolutely vital to the delivery of this piece, I fail to see what you found so disgusting about it.

  • Comment removed

  • Thank you for honoring her with your performance.

  • Get over yourself. Quit "performing". All your little perfected moves just detract from the communication of character. They don't have any real depth; they're just parts of a puzzle assembled, line by line, to give an impression. All I'm getting from this is High School Drama major doing dinner theater.

So set this video aside and go do something else, like selling cars or working in a state park. After six months, look at it again. Then adjust; then you're ready.

  • @whd2002

You need to, you know, get over yourself.

It's an emotional monologue. Do you want her to stare at the camera stone faced and drone it?

  • hahahahahahah it looks like a criminal in the electric chair!

  • sorry about my last comment, she did not deseve to die

  • put some soot over your face

  • if your lost you can look and you will find me

  • time after time you give me hope

  • ill save you from the french cunnts

  • joan of arc,

  • Can you tell me .. you practice in front of a mirror? How do you know that you get the correct expression?

  • there is something terribly wrong with this woman...

  • Hi Amy,

Recently i saw you on youtube and really i am impressed by you. I can definitely predict a bright future of you, not less then an Oscar. God bless you.

    Regds

    Biswa

  • FAIL !

  • decent

  • Well done! The ONLY thing, just like MSLU9 said, you're making the character a little too vulnerable. If you put a little more anger and resentment into it, you'll be PERFECT!

  • not bad, but it is a bit out of character and too mechanical. An actor is a good actor when he makes the impression he isn't playing, he IS that character and that's exactly what you fail to acomplish. Still, pretty decent.

  • NIce. Thanks.

  • I really like this monouloge! I think you show a very voulnubale site of Joan, don`t you think she was more strong and mabye angry! More character and less yourself!

  • St Joan is one of my favorite plays of all time. Well done, Ms. Walker

  • Amazing! (:

  • I don't know why people are calling her nuts.

They only say this because they're afraid to perform as well and as emotional as she does.

    Brava, Amy Walker, brava.

  • Too plastic and mechanical. Acting like this is very annoying and insulting.

  • you beautiful

  • did you put some other words in there?

I can't find this version for the life of me. a little help please?

  • When you look left or right, your eyes move all over the place. I'd recommend you imagine specific people sitting in specific places. It'll keep your eyes focused - as if you literally are talking to multiple distinct people.

    Great performance otherwise.

  • Great job! 5*****

  • I did this monologue once too. My drama class freshman year. Great, great piece. And WONDERFUL job.

  • I did this monologue for an acting class once. Nicely done.

  • Oh man. You need to be in movies!!! That was amazing!

  • she's and amazing actress,

everytime i watch this vid, it gives me goose bumps, because she's so good, the emotion, i can already visualize what joan of arc felt during the last minutes of her life

    bravo!

  • she supposed to be crying.

  • this is a good job!

  • She needs to be in movies. Very moving performance!

  • My great untie dreamt she was st joan of arc , the next day she got set on fire , she died in hospital , maybe i'm crazy but i think thats a bit weird to be just a coincidence. R.I.P.sandra.

By the way amy i love all your videos no matter what you do it's always very impressive.xxx

  • anyone know where i can find this monologue?

  • OMG she is crying!!!

  • I liked it...nice!

  • if there's ever a stage version of "fatal attraction" or "single white female" you're hired!

  • I thought Shaw expressly didnt want to be his Joan melodramatic at all! But to speak in general: Of the three poetic plays about Jeanne, those of Schiller, Shakespeare and Shaw, I prefer Schiller's, despite he depicted Jeanne as a avenging Nemesis of national liberation with the attributes of Athena and Marry [what is like fire and water put into one container]; I wouldnt have minded if Shakespeare made her just an evil witch but let her deny her father and confess sexual intercourse: No way!

  • Perpetual imprisonment. Am I not then to be set free?

Well, that's what's implied by the word perpetual.

  • Well then tell that to the writer.

  • I don't understand the point of asking the question. But I guess if I were sentenced to perpetual imprisonment then I would ask the same question.

  • Sure beats everlasting perpetual imprisonment, though...

  • jkilmer: What do you know of Joan's last moments? Have you the arrogance to attempt to reconstruct her posthumously with snippets or cheap factoids from history books? This portrayal IS artful simply because it was created to be so. Whether you like or appreciate it is separate matter altogether; so, please do not attempt to label it "artless" by throwing bits of vague historical innuendo at it.

  • Joan was French..... This doesn't sound like French. An odd sort of Portuguese crossbreed perhaps... Surprising for someone who does accents so well.

  • youre so good!

  • WOWOWOWOWOWOWOW

    LETS CHILL DUDE.

    this was intense.

    but ya kno wat

    i dig it

  • How have I never heard of you before?

  • Wow you know so much! Let's bow down before you O noble one.

  • Its no shame to get better.

Im just explaining the charrecter better so others who wanna do it can understand.

If you watched the movie and read the play you'd understand.

  • Oh yeah, now you're just EXPLAINING. Your last comment was not explaining in the way you think. "dont you dare"? "it's really pathetic." *applauds* That some beautiful explaining there. People are free to do whatever interpretation they want. That's why Amy is so creative. She likes to try new thigns and see how it can work. Maybe I havnt read the play, but I know that you have freedom to change it in however way you like. There is no such thing as wrong. If everyone did the same,it be boring.

  • But it's the ultimate rudeness to change the playwright's intentions. You can't manipulate the monologue just so the speech will sound more dramatic. That said, it wasn't that bad. I just didn't feel- much.

  • whooooa. sooo overacted. i didn't believe one word of this monologue. it was completely manufactured emoting.speak like a person, not your "IDEA" of the character.you are acting a "state" and not actually experiencing the circumstances.

  • well done

  • you should do genevieve bujold's speech in anne of a thousand days

  • Movies too!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • simply brilliant

  • Great job!

  • Brilliant. Simply brilliant. This was the first monologue I performed when I was in 7th grade... I give you a standing ovation for this spectacular performance.

  • I can barely move after watching this clip. Every time I have watched this clip. Amy, your delivery is brilliant. When you deliver the line "you promised me life" depicts shock, betrayal, and sorrow all at the same time. Words can't describe the emotions I feel when watching you perform St. Joan as corny as that may sound. You are a true talent. It's hard to critique when I'm immediately pulled in and feel how she is feeling. Aw, is the only way I can decribe this clip.

  • this is probably the best way you could portray that role....I enjoyed that!

  • That was really great! I love that play so much. Remember though that St. Joan was from Lorraine, which has a very delicate accent, and you slip out of it very easily. It's so similar to Dutch, German, English and French that it's easy to mess up into one of the above. You usually have it, but be careful.

  • what are the words to this??

can u copy + paste in a reply comment

i need to do this but cant find a script =[

  • Perpetual imprisonment? Am I not then to be set free? Give me that in writing. Light your fire. Do you think I dread it as much as the life of a rat in a hole? My voices were right. Yes, they told me that you were fools. That I should not listen to your fine words, nor trust to your charity. You promised me my life but you lied. You think that life is nothing but not being stone dead.

  • It is not the bread and water I fear. I can live on bread, when have I asked for more? It is no hardship to drink the water if the water be clean. Sorry for the multiple posts, but it wouldn't let me put it all into one response. You sort of have to read them from the bottom up. I have my portrayal on youtube as well.

  • thanks for doing this for hquiggers

it was very kind of you :)

  • lol

  • love you amy!

    amy, amy, amy

  • wow, amazing, how do u make urself cry like that? is it just that you get so wrapped up in the role at the moment that it just happens? pretty neat.

  • BEAUTulll.. absoltutely touched.. yu acted as if yu were really there!!! :)

  • Wow you are so good!!! Im doing this monologue for drama at school!!! Thankx this has helped me so much!

  • wow... that's beautiful.

  • I remember having to watch girls do that monologue in high school and it being so boring.

I wish I had went to high school with you. :)

  • Truly Breathtaking!

  • i cant belive you havent been descovered yet. wow

  • great job!

  • marry me and i wont be needing telly anymore, you really are great! :)

  • Your teeth are insanely white!! What do you use on them? You look better with less makeup on!

  • BEAUTIFUL!

  • is she in any movies?

  • It's called acting, asshole.

  • that was really really good but the play is called the lark we did it in school about two years ago and the play way actually called 'the lark' obviously due to the really moving end monologue. The people below are right you should do it in your own accent it sounds more realistic

  • I agree with Ernie. No need for the accent. Your own voice is quite lovely...use that! It will be more natural.

  • Great job, but why the affected British accent? What's wrong with acting in your own voice?

PS - less with the tweezers, please.

  • i think she was trying to be french because it doesn't sound completely like english and joan of arc was french.. i think :)

  • BRAVO!

  • Wow, this is great!

  • where did you go to school?

  • I happened to search for this exact monologue on youtube because I'm doing it for a theatre competition, and I really like how you did it. Your face is very expressive, and that contributes a lot to the monologue, especially because you are seated and only visible from the shoulders up.

    Wonderful job!

  • you are fabulous.

  • ur the most talented and most beautiful girl on youtube!

  • you're incredible!!!!!!!

  • Very emotional. Amaaaazing

  • multiple personalities?? what? are you dumb or something. she does not have that disorder. its called acting. have you ever heard of it? you portray different people and it is not an illness! i know amy personally and its lame to make assumptions like that.

  • great delivery! a very convincing joan. purist craft :)

  • great!

  • Bruceoldham needs to get a life and enjoy the talent of a fine young actress. I'm sure acting "gigs" are hard to come by and Amy is just showcasing her talents. She spends a little time doing these videos and reaps huge rewards.

  • Wow! That's all I can say. Just...wow! kudos!!

  • shes very good

  • The last poster should get a clue. Amy is a talented artist wanting to share her art with the world. That is what real artist do and have done since the begining of time! Well done Amy!

  • One question......as wonderful as the You Tube technology is for exposing talented folks, why wouldn't a fine actress be WORKING instead of spending time here? Is this the new "alternate career" that replaces waiting on tables?

  • LOVE the hair amy! Seriously though, I wish you all the best and seems that now is your time!

  • very well portrayed, but i still have a mental block which prevents me from connecting with your performance. most likely i'm accustomed to the 21 accents so i cant imagine you in such a heartfelt role... nevertheless, brilliant.

  • You will have no doubt seen the Maria Falconetti version, where she awaits her material imprisonment and the impending loneliness of her spiritual betrayal with shorn head, ravaged face; the tears in her eyes are not raindrops on the window but the unmoving surface of water inside a well. You seem to be walking that image like walking a poodle on a Manhattan pavement, whereas greatness lies in being swept uway by that gale. With this much talent, I hope you get to go for it all someday.

  • There is a lot of "character" but not enough "emotion" for us to believe what you feel, you must believe what you feeling, not acting. Thats the difference between good and great. Your good.

  • You should re-examine YOUR basic grammar skills before attempting a critical character analysis.

  • You are one talented chick! And I very much enjoyed your Today Show appearance! Matt couldn't take his eyes off you. And don't give them the 10% - they make enough already :-)

  • Amy..Good Stuff..really good stuff.

    Fun-tas-tic..

  • I think i'm in love with Amy Walker. But it wouldn't work out. All those accents, i would not be able to win any argument-because i have a weakness for accents. Good show, Amy. Congrats on the Today Show appearance!! :)

  • As someone who has seen Amy in many productions and as someone who lives about 300 yards or less from her parents. She really is talented.

  • You are remarkable. Literally, I've remarked upon your beauty and talent many a time.

  • Great work Amy... I heard you on NPR today (3-10-08). Very Impressive. You'll get there!

  • yeah I agree this is great for stage too much for the small screen. I would tone it down just a little bit. Good technique though. Can anyone give a little background. I am not familiar with the character at all.

  • Good for stage. too much "acting" for a medium shot. Smaller, smaller... remember less is more.

  • youtube needs more excellent acting videos like this.

  • Don't know why, but you remind me of Jodie Foster, especially in this video :-)

  • Simply excellent Amy. Question, do you have the "Hollywood" ability to cry on cue? How, just how do they do that?

Also I'd love to hear your "hello my name is Amy Walker", rendition of a women from the Mid~East and also from Mexico. Round 2??

Make more videos, you got it sweetheart.

  • a good way to fake tears is to not blink. but you can also cry because you have been able to work on your feelings.

it's hard work and Amy is amazing.

  • Eh, she proably did stellar in the highschool forensics and seems made for theatrics, why people equate this with screen acting is beyond me. Not saying she can't but more would need to be seen before anyone else starts blathering about "why havn't I seen you on Tv yet"

    Still good though

  • point.

  • Amy,

As a young student director, I've seen this monologue done a couple of times, and this is the best I've ever seen it done. And Shaw usually bores the bejeebus out of me.

  • I think you are awesome. Im bookmarking your site. The only thing I would say is this accent is a little Celine Dion'ish and the voice a little too old for a younger Jeanne...but you may have been going for that.(Added maturity because of the visions)

Dont hate on Me for being constructive!!

Your awesome. When will we see you on Jimmy Kimmel?

  • lol, why jimmy kimmel? why not jay leno or david letterman?

  • I feel its too much theatrical and not enough cinematographical (scuse my french)... But, what do i know...

  • Wow, you're gorgeous and talented, the accent clip is great. Love your web sight, red hair, whoa!

  • Absolutely fantastic. I'd wish you good luck but a person of your talents is going to be just fine. Enjoy the ride to stardom.

  • I'm overwhelmed and speechless. Thank you. All the best to you!

  • Unbelievably moving...why haven't I seen you on TV yet?!?! I even spotted a tear at the end - you really seem to be able to get into the part. Truly incredible acting, I was completely convinced.

  • I'm honored. Thank you! Best to you!

  • Wow, an excellent performance, not that it should mean anything. I know nothing about acting or the context of the monologue. However, I did want to mention I thought the tears gave it just that little bit extra. Very impressive.

  • I enjoy your videos and I admire your talent. I think your Texas accent on 21 sounds just like Reba McEntire. Oh and you are freaking hot to :P
