that's nice, but how did you open the run dialog box and what did you type into it to get the configuration editor to launch?

Hit alt+F2 to get the run box up, then type in "gconf-editor", without the quotes.

I just right clicked on the power off icon and went to preferences. I unchecked the show confirmation box.

You can also right click the powerbutton on top right and click preferences. Than uncheck "show confirm dialogues for *blah blah*".
