Myst was the best selling game of its day,but I guess games like GTA are popular now, so that might explain why there were not enough people to keep Uru online around.
Well, the trailer itself is relatively new (mid-May), but the footage in it is OLD. I think it's something GameTap threw together from old trailers for Live in preparation for the relaunch of Live this November/December. See www.urulive.com for more information!
This will help get out the word that URU Live is back. For those who own the game and forgot about it, it will jog memories and help get back fans. So, all good in my opinion.
For something that showed up just days after the press release, I think it's enough to hold people until a new trailer arrives. And did you note, the announcer is Mr. "7foot tall man who's been smoking cigarettes since childhood", who does most movie trailers.
Cyan is very short on manpower right now, trying to get new content ready for a holiday release, and they don't have time to waste patching up old content. Besides which, they intend to keep the almost the same system requirements as Uru originally had, so the widest possible range of computer hardware can play it.
If Uru Live succeeds, it will be not because it has the latest graphical bells and whistles, but because it's a new entertainment experience.
For two-year old content it's underwhelming. Quite a poor trailer. Nothing that will get anyone but the hardcore MYST fans excited about. It would have been better had they shown some kind of graphical improvement to such old content. Indeed, I think, it would have been expected.
The reason it looks "underwhelming" is because it is the original code and indeed ment for those who like the original games. That's what GameTap is all about. They licence out the original code.
So, Cyan is only interested in gaining customers that were fans of the original game? So, why did URU Live fail the first time? Oh, wait, I remember: No one but the fans were playing.
Extended? URU Live never had an extended anything. They could only get the core fans interested and that simply wasn't enough to sustain the financial investment by Ubisoft. I sincerely hope history doesn't repeat itself. A criticism of the game doesn't mean the entire game stinks. I don't think the game stinks at all. However, there are perfectly legitimate criticisms to be made. Either you can listen or you can't.

Well duh.. of course "only fans" play a game for any extended time... why would you play a game you were not a fan of.. that is stupid.
