I like their newer stuff, but I personally think their best albums are Black Sails in the Sunset, Art of Drowning, and Sing the Sorrow. I can listen to every sing song on those albums, they're awesome!
It's funny..I remember people saying basically all the same shit about AFI as they are now (sellouts, etc), when Sing The sorrow.came out. And now the same people say STS is one of the best. hahah. people are funny.
@GrimzClipz deal with it. I uploaded this a month before the album was released (recorded it off the radio), and was the first to post the entire song on youtube, so instead of complaining how about a little appreciation?
Oh, I didn't really pay attention to when you posted this video, and the point is, it's not anymore, so, I guess you really didn't help me that much, maybe others though...

@Dragonforcenerd13 No, I completely agree. Sure, they change. But I think, maybe that's what gives them that extra edge. They're just really talented musicians, and are awesome regardless of genre.

nahhhhhh this sounds a lot like sing the sorrow, which was ranked one of the best albums of all time in respect to guitar. i think it's the 77th greatest guitar album of all time... at least that's what it was ranked as in the rolling stone...
same here, I heard Decemberungerground first, then sing the sorrow, I've yet to hear some BS, AH and AoD. yeah i think december underground wasn't all that great either i like their older stuff black sails aod all hallows ep but istill love afi too i'll get the cd anyway
dark sails in the sunset will always hold but as a growing band and a group of guys getting older still unique changing sound. always good love a band that never stays the same
haha i cant believe afi how can u play such crap after being a great hardcore band? they should of changed their name when they sold out and made all their songs gay
If you think AFI's peak was during Sing the Sorrow and December Underground, I think you would meet disagreement from the vast majority of AFI's long-time fans. You say you like Davey's screaming, but have you even LISTENED to Black Sails or All Hallow's?
Black Sails, All Hallow's and the Art of Drowning. Glory days of AFI. Sing the Sorrow was good, but drastically different (not in a bad way...), but it wasn't AFI as I had grown to love them, doesn't compare to their 3 releases before that.
Why is this the single? Its the worst song so far off this album. And yes, Sing the Sorrow is probably their magnum opus, but it doesn't make them obsolete.
i think my biggest problem with this album is that i can't relate to any of the songs/lyrics. i've never chased after a drug-addict movie star... the album's theme just seems like such an odd choice for afi
i mean, i like AFI's current music, but only because i'm a fan of their old stuff and i feel obliged to like it.. haha well maybe that's a bit extreme..
I hope AFI could be as ambitious as GREEN DAY.these are great bands who are bigger than punk rock ethos or brokenhearted scenesters .I never heard AFI preach.IF any thing they preach be yourself and disregard rest.New afi is different but if it wuz still like 98 we all would have lost interest a long time ago.Look at PENNYWISE.I luv em ,but BORING!!
haha they never preached? uhhh y do u think so many ppl like them? they preached straight edge and east bay hardcore for years...your fucking ignorant
Davey Havok has too much talent and charisma to stay undiscovered and loyal too a bunch of judgemental, elitist, wannabe hardcore punx who want Black Sails every year!!This band deserves more than that.
AFI grew from black sails, the art of drowning, all hallows, sing the sorrow and DU...this isnt just a change in style, its a change in what they preached for 15 years. I love the change they made over the years, but crash love makes AFI the new Green Day lol
This is sad. I expected so much more. I'm not giving up though. I know what this band is capable of. Surgery or no, this is still the most captivating voice to ever escape a human. The only thing I've begun to notice that's striking me as disastrous, is the fact that his lyrics are going downhill. Almost like he's "dulling them down". Nothing seems cryptic. That's the thing I loved the most about this band. Who knows what's going to happen? Continue on and get better, I hope.
WE LOVE OLD AFI NOT BECAUSE WE ARE STUCK IN A TIME WARP BUT BECAUSE THEIR MUSIC USED TO BE SINCERE AND THE LYRICS USED TO MEAN SOMETHING.
The lyrics have been so THROW AWAY with the last two Cds. Its not like we are stuck in some hardcore fantasy land. We just want to sing along to music that doesnt have dumbed down lyrics.
FFS, I once had to look up "anathema" in a dictionary.
omg ily lol...thats hella true, everytime i used to listen to AFI i had to have a dictionary open lmao..they did dumb down the lyrics so ignorant pop and wana be emos can understand the lyrics lol... i understand davey had throat surgery but that dsnt mean they have to get gay and sing pop songs...STS was an awsome album and they had crazy riffs and "catchy" singles but they did that still keeping the meaning and feel in their songs...even when AFI was punk there songs ment something.
So Im not the only one who'se English was improved by old AFI ? lol
You know, its not like Im advocating they release a new Cd full of Latin song titles and what not...but anyone who thinks a chorus made up of " I'll let you tear it up/ If you don't wake me up / But if you tear it /
We can't repair it..." is progression, need to get a grip.
The new music has no soul.
(Side note; Dude youre funny but "gay" is not a derogatory word. Shouldnt be used that way. Peace)
Saw AFI at reading festy this year, were awesome :D. The new album is great - i defo like it as much as sing the sorrow and decemberunderground, despite the slight style change - think theyve done it well. I duno what you lot are whining about, it still sounds VERY AFI. TERRIBLE sound on this video though, whoever put this up did a bad job.
I didn't think it's bad. If your a true fan, you wouldn't be dissing them. Every band/singer goes through a different stage, even if the album doesn't seem to work against most fans, it's still them singing & entertaining you.
PS: Keep in mind that Davey can't sing as he used in before. I think he had surgery done.
A change in style does not mean that the band is 'dead' or 'ruined' you fools. Maybe you won't want to listen to them, but plenty of others think that this different sound is more enjoyable.
Some of people that aren't too thrilled with the 'new' AFI, must you call the new material 'gay/fag' etc?
I like the song, I prefer the older stuff but I can appreciate the newer material. I also have to say about some of these 'new' fans stop with 'omg hes soo cute!' do you like the band it self or just Davey? If so then you really can't call yourself a fan of the band. Just my 2 cents.
Are you fucking kidding me? AFI has put so much effort into this album, they've poured their heart and soul into making it as good as they can, and they change their sound a bit and you crawl out of your fucking fake indy music hole to insult the hard work of some amazingly talented individuals such as these because it doesn't SOUND INDY ENOUGH FOR YOU?!
did any one say they wanted afi to sound indy lol...so fucking retarted, it dsnt take "heart and soul"effort to make this shit, afi has worked alot harder in a shorter amount of time and made better music than this. You want to know an album afi put there heart and soul into, listen to Black Sails in the Sunset thats heart and soul you dumb bitch
This album makes me sad, and no, not like you little teen tools, wearing your DF armbands! 9/29/09 was the day the music died. That was the day my Jonh Lennon was killed. Embrace what you have created you melodramatic cutters!' Elvis has left the building to go hang himself, listening to medicate.
i agree all the poetic beauty and meaning has flown out the damn window, but i still really like the songs themselves. this is also the first album in all 18 years that had no prolonged last track ,though the bonus disc has much more acceptable recordings on it. i still support the band and all in hopes theyll get back to putting out the good stuff. till then this is good enough. im not fickle enough to ditch a band ive been loving for years because of one less than perfect album. its still OK
Sure they were hardcore but listen to the lyrics. Realy listen to them. The soul and fire is in the words. They were , are and always wil be A fire inside. Long live AFI!!!
no ur wrong...the words are not the same, they went from having awsome meaningfull lyrics in albums Shut your Mouth and Open your Eyes all to DecemberUnderground, and even though the singles off DU were iffy with many AFI fans, i thought the rest of the album was a true transition and evolution for AFI. But Crash Love is not. Malleus Malefic arum was a song speaking of being shunned by societies standards, they preach being straight edge and their taking about medicating each other...
continued...Like w.e there hipocrates and i cant appreciate there songs anymore, for all of you saying that im wrong watch the interview where davey and jade talk about not wanting to do drugs and being straight edge and how they dont like wat people play on the radio because its not true art...just fucking listen to the past albums then this one and you can tell that there just in it to be looked as every other band right now...
I completely and utterly agree with you. the music is catchy, but everything that made me love AFI, Davey's epic voice, their amazing lyrics, and their very varying style, are all gone in this album. it's more then a little disappointing, especially since it took them three years to make this album. I'll listen to this one, and I'll wait for the next one, but I'm not pleased.
I listend to their songs in order from 1991 to now. Now think Yall Hes gonna be 34 Fucking years old! He grew up! So did pink and other singers and you dont see others bashing them. This song rocks because they are doing the same since the beginning reaching out to people with music. You cant expect them to sing and play the same things forever. They would get boring. It shows who are the true fans and those that only like them by their image and genre. The soul of their songs They Are the same.
In no way is his album emo, it's more rock oriented. As for their two prior releases, they owe more to the early goth rock/darkwave sound of the 80's than emo music. You stupid 15 year old kids who know nothing about music at all.
The dark aesthetic, the black clothes and make-up, poetic lyricism, the synth and electronic elements. I can list numerous bands from the 80's including Joy Division who in
to continue... who have integrated similar elements to their music. I did not say they were goth albums per se, but rather I will reiterate that the sound they created owes more to goth rock/darkwave than emo, and undoubtedly punk rock.
WOW!!!! This is junk. They have totally sold out to frat boys, whinny emo kids and the abercrombie generation. I remember a day when AFI played with A FIRE INSIDE now they are a joke. I mean if you are a new fan and you like it thats great but I am an old EAST BAY HARDCORE FAN and this is garbage to me. The music itself if put together nice but this is not the AFI of past. I guess even the best sell out eventually. ART OF DROWNING AND
i agree with oldthompson this new album i feel is like a new emergence for afi this does have good riffs and a very interesting concept i love it afi forever
also, all you young girls (and boys?) who type the same disposable "he's so hot " comments can do the world the small favor of containing your need to spew tedium on to these postings.
AFI is dead to me! The fire that once burned so bright is now extinguished, not even ambers pulse to keep my cold existence tepid. There was a time when their music coursed through my circulatory system, fueling my primal need to continue; now my blood has congealed, solidified in an empty vessel. I now know the feeling of despair. To you posers out there wearing your DF armbands, embrace what you have created. .
MMLittle71, there isn't a single drop of legitimate criticism in your comment, its just an inarticulate rant. In my opinion the new album contains some great riffs and an interesting underlying concept. But I guess you need the one up in some trivial music listeners hierchy by refering to people who enjoy this bands current material as posers.
dude i love ur comment ur so right there dead to me to, they are sell outs 15 fucking yrs i listen to them and now look, im with u brother i totally lost my fire!!! ur not alone these kids dont even know
I used to be in love with AFI. :( It's so sad that they aren't awesome like they used to be. This song is alright. Last album I liked was Sing the Sorrow. Black Sails or Art of Drowning was their best, IMO. Rolling Balls was my favorite song of theirs. They've gone SOOOO mainstream it's sad. I'm really glad I didn't get a tattoo of them, now. My husband said they used to be A Fire Inside, but now they're just heartburn.
I went to walmart at 11:49pm sept 28th for this fine album. I didnt have to wait in line, or sit in the tent i set up in the electronics department :-/
Black Sails, Art of Drowning,Very Proud of Ya, all get 10/10s, Sing The Sorrow 8/10 Decemberunderground 6/10.... so as AFI progressed they got somewhat worse with good songs, but this one 9/10, it combines elements from all their old albums + a new one.
i love all the songs on the album.....i hate it wen old fans of AFI complain about DU and Crash Love dont hate appericate :)so jus stop complainin,it isnt doing anything good so theres no reason to
no they may not be the same as they were before, but who wants a band that never changes, experiments?? just like a person a band changes, and is shaped by things that happen in their lives. They're not sell out, they want to do what they want, and it sounds amazing still!! and the beautiful thing about it all, is that you can still listen to their old stuff, while i sit here and appreciate it all <3
were all upset and let down that AFI got this way. when not even 4 years ago when they were being interviewed Davey and Jade were bragging how they didnt sound like no one else on the radio, now they sound like everyone else. there hipocrates, they wana be the next sell out. even on their myspace blog saying how their happy there on a major label who signed artists like NIN and greenday. I am no longer an AFI supporter, i wont be buying Crash Love, shit this album isnt even limewire worthy
Now I'm not saying they sold out. Calling some one a sell out for getting popular is stupid, but honestly. They aren't even the same band anymore. I hate December Underground and I'm not even going to bother buying this one. I just can't take the disappiontment anymore. I'll stick to my old AFI<3 Sing the Sorrow is their best album and it looks like it's going to stay that way.
hell ya dont bother it sucks ass, they suck now i just bought it and it is horrible, i love afi and i love every album yup to sing the sorrow that was ok, but these past two albums sell out city, they got popular cuz they sold out, and signed a new label and so on and so forth, i love afi but its not afi great comment!!! cuz these little kids need to hear the true afi and stop thinking this crap music is good!! afi+ money+ fans= sellout lol!!!
ya im just very dispointed i been listening to them over 15 yrs, im 30 now and thought this album they were going to bring back a little punk, and well just say i dont like not one song, thats pretty bad, i bought it and now am selling it on ebay, very disapointed, shoot whos buizel 25 ill give u this crap!! u have to be like a young kid who only knew of this band when they came out with sing the sorrow, cuz if u knew this band about 15 yrs ago, u would be in the same boat as us old fans!!
crash love i really great! Thank you afi

jpache65 2 years ago 2
Feels like a step down from their last album, Decemberunderground had such varied, dynamic production
macca3666 2 years ago
I don't know how to feel about this cd.
I think their peak was Sing the Sorrow and December Undergroud. It just seems not as emotional. I really miss Davey's screaming.
lacedwithlace09 2 years ago
If you think AFI's peak was during Sing the Sorrow and December Underground, I think you would meet disagreement from the vast majority of AFI's long-time fans. You say you like Davey's screaming, but have you even LISTENED to Black Sails or All Hallow's?
EmperorElliott 2 years ago 3
Black Sails, All Hallow's and the Art of Drowning. Glory days of AFI. Sing the Sorrow was good, but drastically different (not in a bad way...), but it wasn't AFI as I had grown to love them, doesn't compare to their 3 releases before that.

Why is this the single? Its the worst song so far off this album. And yes, Sing the Sorrow is probably their magnum opus, but it doesn't make them obsolete.
awickjrjen 2 years ago
i think my biggest problem with this album is that i can't relate to any of the songs/lyrics. i've never chased after a drug-addict movie star... the album's theme just seems like such an odd choice for afi

I hope AFI could be as ambitious as GREEN DAY.these are great bands who are bigger than punk rock ethos or brokenhearted scenesters .I never heard AFI preach.IF any thing they preach be yourself and disregard rest.New afi is different but if it wuz still like 98 we all would have lost interest a long time ago.Look at PENNYWISE.I luv em ,but BORING!!

haha they never preached? uhhh y do u think so many ppl like them? they preached straight edge and east bay hardcore for years...your fucking ignorant
thegreatdisapointmnt 2 years ago 4
Davey probably couldnt pull off those old style hrhardcore songs anyway due to throat surgery.
NOFXPX182 2 years ago 2
Davey Havok has too much talent and charisma to stay undiscovered and loyal too a bunch of judgemental, elitist, wannabe hardcore punx who want Black Sails every year!!This band deserves more than that.
NOFXPX182 2 years ago
AFI grew from black sails, the art of drowning, all hallows, sing the sorrow and DU...this isnt just a change in style, its a change in what they preached for 15 years. I love the change they made over the years, but crash love makes AFI the new Green Day lol
thegreatdisapointmnt 2 years ago
hear, hear!
Mrs8Troy8Bloom 2 years ago
This is sad. I expected so much more. I'm not giving up though. I know what this band is capable of. Surgery or no, this is still the most captivating voice to ever escape a human. The only thing I've begun to notice that's striking me as disastrous, is the fact that his lyrics are going downhill. Almost like he's "dulling them down". Nothing seems cryptic. That's the thing I loved the most about this band. Who knows what's going to happen? Continue on and get better, I hope.
ThisManThisMonster 2 years ago 2
@ThisMan
I completely agree with you 100% and would add;
Thats the AFI I LOVE!!!
BRING THEM BACK!
MinhaEstrelaPreta 2 years ago
omg ily lol...thats hella true, everytime i used to listen to AFI i had to have a dictionary open lmao..they did dumb down the lyrics so ignorant pop and wana be emos can understand the lyrics lol... i understand davey had throat surgery but that dsnt mean they have to get gay and sing pop songs...STS was an awsome album and they had crazy riffs and "catchy" singles but they did that still keeping the meaning and feel in their songs...even when AFI was punk there songs ment something.
thegreatdisapointmnt 2 years ago
@Thegreat..
Peace)
MinhaEstrelaPreta 2 years ago

I think he had surgery done.
anneke06 2 years ago

SweetCalamity1 2 years ago 13
There are just the songs number 1 to 6 which are goods, the rest is shit.
Afi is too much comercial, with falses voices.
Such a shame that they don't go back with their californian style, as in the olds albums.
64force 2 years ago
Are you fucking kidding me? AFI has put so much effort into this album, they've poured their heart and soul into making it as good as they can, and they change their sound a bit and you crawl out of your fucking fake indy music hole to insult the hard work of some amazingly talented individuals such as these because it doesn't SOUND INDY ENOUGH FOR YOU?!
fuck you.
(just my two cents)
hackallgames 2 years ago
did any one say they wanted afi to sound indy lol...so fucking retarted, it dsnt take "heart and soul"effort to make this shit, afi has worked alot harder in a shorter amount of time and made better music than this.
MMLittle71 2 years ago
i agree all the poetic beauty and meaning has flown out the damn window, but i still really like the songs themselves. this is also the first album in all 18 years that had no prolonged last track ,though the bonus disc has much more acceptable recordings on it. i still support the band and all in hopes theyll get back to putting out the good stuff. till then this is good enough. im not fickle enough to ditch a band ive been loving for years because of one less than perfect album. its still OK
Varryance 2 years ago 2
Sure they were hardcore but listen to the lyrics. Realy listen to them. The soul and fire is in the words. They were , are and always wil be A fire inside. Long live AFI!!!
VampireKitten103 2 years ago 3
no ur wrong...the words are not the same, they went from having awsome meaningfull lyrics in albums Shut your Mouth and Open your Eyes all to DecemberUnderground, and even though the singles off DU were iffy with many AFI fans, i thought the rest of the album was a true transition and evolution for AFI. But Crash Love is not. Malleus Malefic arum was a song speaking of being shunned by societies standards, they preach being straight edge and their taking about medicating each other...
thegreatdisapointmnt 2 years ago
continued...Like w.e there hipocrates and i cant appreciate there songs anymore, for all of you saying that im wrong watch the interview where davey and jade talk about not wanting to do drugs and being straight edge and how they dont like wat people play on the radio because its not true art...just fucking listen to the past albums then this one and you can tell that there just in it to be looked as every other band right now...
thegreatdisapointmnt 2 years ago
I completely and utterly agree with you. the music is catchy, but everything that made me love AFI, Davey's epic voice, their amazing lyrics, and their very varying style, are all gone in this album. it's more then a little disappointing, especially since it took them three years to make this album. I'll listen to this one, and I'll wait for the next one, but I'm not pleased.
kelpie394 2 years ago
I listend to their songs in order from 1991 to now. Now think Yall Hes gonna be 34 Fucking years old! He grew up! So did pink and other singers and you dont see others bashing them. This song rocks because they are doing the same since the beginning reaching out to people with music. You cant expect them to sing and play the same things forever. They would get boring. It shows who are the true fans and those that only like them by their image and genre. The soul of their songs They Are the same.
VampireKitten103 2 years ago
I don't like it, AFI lost its fire a few years back, and they try to get it back with this sad excuse of a rock song?
Dunderhead36 2 years ago
In no way is his album emo, it's more rock oriented. As for their two prior releases, they owe more to the early goth rock/darkwave sound of the 80's than emo music. You stupid 15 year old kids who know nothing about music at all.
Triplezero13999 2 years ago
omfg haha bro ur wrong...there past two albums werent goth at all, and ive never known afi to sound like the 80's...
thegreatdisapointmnt 2 years ago
The dark aesthetic, the black clothes and make-up, poetic lyricism, the synth and electronic elements. I can list numerous bands from the 80's including Joy Division who in
Triplezero13999 2 years ago
to continue... who have integrated similar elements to their music.

My husband said they used to be A Fire Inside, but now they're just heartburn.

no they may not be the same as they were before, but who wants a band that never changes, experiments?? just like a person a band changes, and is shaped by things that happen in their lives. They're not sell out, they want to do what they want, and it sounds amazing still!! and the beautiful thing about it all, is that you can still listen to their old stuff, while i sit here and appreciate it all <3
Konverseking 2 years ago
"but who wants a band that never changes, experiments??"
So you're saying they started "experimenting" after they signed to their major label? Seriously?
They STOPPED experimenting when they moved to the major leagues, anyone with even a minimal understanding of songwriting would understand that.
