  • + the 1:48 zoom + the desert music killed me at that point.

  • I do respect all kinds of martial arts, but I couldn't help but laugh, i'm terribly sorry. It almost looked like he was trying to hit the cameraman, but every time he came close to do so, the cameraman suddenly teleported himself onto another area.

    Nice moves, though!

  • Hom

  • nice guy

  • justa trash enought tension in his arms not agil karate the same things

  • Vãi, ko hiệu ứng mềnh đi đầu xuống đất =;

  • Well performed. Good luck with your championship...

  • Perfect, but one thing is bothering me... is there no kime in shito ryuu??

  • This guy is not fast but IS fluid, where he stops he starts(idk how to say that better, srry) he is not bad. not fancy but not bad at all

  • so handsome...I can't believe it!

  • This is not kata. this is a bunch of ridiculous movement. if you want to see real kata type in "Thesis Kata" now that is real kata. and we don't care if antionio won first place in kata at world championship. my teacher has too.

  • Meet the guy, train with him, see him execute the techniques up close, get hit by one of his punches. I've done all of those things & as a result, I'm a big fan. Really nice guy, very knowledgeable & an EXCELLENT karateka. Thoroughly deserved to win his World Title.

  • why is there desert music in the background?

  • he is pretty fantastic but that heavyweight gi is helping him a lot, haa

  • alguien que me pueda dar la direccion de l correo de antonio ???

    Practico Karate !!

  • Enjoyment of Kata is always aethesic so we will always have personal opinions. I enjoyed it - some very weird camera angles though....

  • Looks good to me!

  • Kata is for men that want to get good at dancing but also want ot seem bad ass and think they will get beat up.

  • OMG!!! fartface0469 and 5Gorinnosho! What is the matter with you! Are you old men or something? that thinks of karate of some kind of yoga?? I mean Antonio Diaz is the best to perform kata in the world so why in the hell will the best wkf judges in the world vote for him insted of being homos like you guys and write a bunch of crap like that!!!

  • @lukasekkkert Because they are paid to dummy lol.

  • I think he just broke a few of his ribs.

  • All haters should just shut the f**k up, and go watch some "traditional" kata, if that's what you like

  • Well, he's maybe a good gymnastic and athlete but all that is NOTHING TO DO WITH KARATE DO!!!!!!

  • This man's movement is so sharp and crisp that he needs no iron for his Gi !!!! Great technique !!! Osu !!!

  • just trash karate do ,

  • Dude is a fuckin killer!!!!!! all I gotta say

  • supper kata

  • If you are heavily involved with WKF as i am, you understand how much bias is involved. Again, look at diaz. His stances are appalling.... shodan level. His hand techniques are snappy, but thats it. You cant disagree. His videos are everywhere on youtube to see. If you cant see that he is not world class you dont know much about karate.

  • Whats the name of this KATA?

  • @Dinobotrocksmysocks

    Chatanyara no Kushanku

  • He's ok. But to win a world title? Thats just nonsense!

Judges are clueless and there is so much politics in the kata division.

  • @toanthony Are you kidding me? You know that they use different judges for different countries so there is No bias. Besides at that level its hard to determine who will win sometimes. The people that win deserve there titlle, at least the people that win gold.

  • @shotojojo1986

Yes but those judges have been judging valdesi and Diaz for years. And Valdesi always wins at the Worlds. So bias exists when people say that Diaz should win for a change. Also, seein gi was at the event. It was amazing how many sebian's made the final (the home country)? They usually dont do very well but every time a serb through a punch the judges were all flags up straight away. But when a non-serb scored they found a reason not to score it.

  • i sowre halfway thru he was gonna shoo a fireball.

  • He hits himself...... Good kata though

  • your kata is good but my snake style is the best

  • spettacolar

  • Wow very impressive!

  • Ok this is my last bone with this guy then I'm done picking on him lol. I mean no offense to anyone reading this, but Kata isn't just a bunch of fast executed movements that snap into place after every stance change. It should remain fluid and moving at all time like a Waltz almost just with better real world applications. That is it other then that who puts his heart and soul into it and I appreciate that.

  • @fartface0469 Antionio won 1st place in kata again this year at world championship 2010 google it

  • @tomasleeman why not check out luca valdesi, a true karateka

  • @fartface0469 Maybe you don't know this but there is 2 different type of kata "traditional kata" this kata is for yourself, and got more aplications in real world. and "plastic" kata this kata is for competitions, you make the kata look better, more attractive to the judges, even if is not better then traditional kata in real world.

  • @Silkroad126 I know that there is two styles of Kata, I just find it to be a bit inane to teach a crappy Kata and bad Karate and give a warped view of what is trying to be portrayed. For someone who is honestly trying to learn Karate and all of its Kata as well would be turned on to something like this and mistake it for a applicable Kata. I've see Kata performed by Bruce Kanegai that are both fierce and can be applied to real world application. If done right all kata looks good.

  • @fartface0469 - You're a fucking MORON. Stop pretending you know anything about martial arts, you stupid keyboard warrior BITCH

  • @spamllpitdept Awwww, did I hurt the little girls feelings??? Tell me, why are you such a little woman? Lets see your opposing argument. You seem to confident enough to tell me what I know lets see what you know. Whats so wrong with my post, did shit your cereal with what I had to say. I mean no offense to anyone reading these, it is but merely my opinion. Just because I don't see Kata as a sport and more of a learning tool doesn't make me a keyboard warrior lol.

  • Respond to this video... Why don't you share your opinion on "Why" you believe me to be such a "Moron." I'm open for discussion always in fact I've had a good discussion on this page already with someone. It doesn't take any brain capacity to post "You're a fucking MORON" now if you followed up with some knowledge and wisdom to back up your claim then that would be a different story. You wouldn't be viewed so much as a girl and more a respected person engaging in discussion.

  • @fartface0469 - awaaaaaahahahahahaha did I really hurt your feelings for you to write 2 long ass responses? ahahah what a pussy. This shouldn't come as a surprise what an insecure BITCH you are since you think it's your place to criticize a kata world champ on his kata while you infact are a NOBODY. lol cry me another river, you ovary.

  • @spamllpitdept Nope, you got lucky and happen to get me while I was already in a typing mood. Me not insecure but you can go ahead and say what ever wish, I'm fairly certain if I were to be in match pitted against you, I would take you to school. Come on down to Cali and we can find out.

  • @fartface0469 internet gangster? troll...

  • @PrivateTimmay Internet Justice is what I said dummy lol. This is youtube where your supposed to troll threw peoples vids and watch them and comment, thats what it was built for Timmay. Not to just focus on a single vid and not comment. This is a dialog based system for people to share with one another if you got a problem with that fuck off then lol.

  • @fartface0469 - lol you're telling me to come to Cali to fight you? You would take me to school? hahahahahaha wow, you truly do have ZERO understanding of Karate and the Karate way .... then again, thats already evident from your posts PRETENDING to know karate. ps- this guy made this comment on Christmas Eve his time, ahahahah omfg

  • @spamllpitdept I'm not telling you to come to Cali to fight me, I'm cordially inviting you to Cali for a test of your skill. You are familiar with the idea of kumite, right? Hell we can make it easy and do Epon Kumite, or just have some fun and do Jiyu Kumite. to your take me to school comment, your right that wasn't very Rei of me to say, you are right about that Karate-do begins and ends in Rei so for that I apologies. Aside from that who cares if I posted this on Christmas Eve lol.

  • @fartface0469 You really dont know much about this do you?

  • @astapasta0916 I'm just playing it by ear lol.

  • @fartface0469 you are absolutely correct. this guy doesn't even know how to make a proper fist, let alone perform a kata. him winning a championship just proves that the level of international karate is going downhill and that the judges do not understand true budo.

  • @fartface0469 Kata depends on the style you're representing. So no, it shouldn´t "remain fluid".

  • @PeteBeast I don't know of what representation you speak of, but Kata should always remain in a certain fluidity none of this Hollywood freeze frame "I look bad ass!!" motion that is represented here. Kata should be envisioned as if you are being attacked by multiple opponents, any time one stops for a second theres a chance of being over whelmed by the next opponent. Now taking a second to think about your next attack in a real life situation is cool.

  • @fartface0469 I mean, there are styles of martial arts, as there are types of katas. Each martial art has a different style and type of kata and some styles have subdivisions, some of whoch show form and body posture in a "slow-mo" version of a real fight, and some which represent a real-life fighting sequence.

  • Example, today's winning performances of kata wouldn't win in competitions in the 70's or 80's, and vice versa. If you see a video of any member of the Mabuni family perform Kusanku and compare it today's competition version, one might say the original way was poor. Would that be a fair statement? Absolutely not. Also, how could a Shotokan specialist judge a Shito-Ryu kata performance and vice versa? Unfair. Would you like to see Diaz perform Shotokan's version of Unsu or Gankaku? Ridiculous.

  • This guy does the Shito version well. However, I don't think kata should be used for competition. Kumite, whether for points or full contact, could be used as a sport because an accepted system of judging could clearly determine the winner or a loser of a match (most of the time), despite the players' style. The problem with kata for competition is that there are existing trends that affect judgment of a current kata performance, and these trends change in time.

  • Wonder if he will ever get to use the punching bags in the background.

  • I love this guy. Inspires me to push so much more. Thank you

  • i so wish that someday i could join the USA-NKF.

  • He won today...he is the world's champion !! Congratulations Antonio !!!

  • like ur suit

  • pussykhia

  • Your to much show and missing some key little parts, for instance this kata is derived from Kanku from Shotokan and those elbows your doing are to meet your hand thats reached like your grabbing the back of someones head. Not slapping your hand to your shoulder for the sound effect. Good fierceness though. Keep your heel down and work on the shoulder slap and you'll be ok.

  • @fartface0469 you should to be a champion to try to correct the world champion kata winner, stop talking and tell us who you are bitch

  • @ccarrazana , Christopher Marchand and I'm a Shotokan practitioner trained by Bruce Kanagai who was trained by Tsutomu Ohshima, Bruce agree's with me in saying what I did. I could careless if he's the world champion in doing show Kata. I bet you don't even know what Kata is even for. So why don't you grow up you little girl and don't take offense to a post that wasn't aimed towards you and was there for helping your "World Champion" to be a better Kata practitioner.

  • @fartface0469 "you'll be ok"?? He's the world champion and YOU'RE telling him how to do kata? I hope you're trolling.

    Fantastic job Antonio!

  • @PeteBeast "Trolling??" What the F is that mean. Yes, I'm giving him a helpful tip, I've done thousands upon thousands Kata with Godans in the SKA org. and in doing so you learn a thing or two about posture and proper positioning. Just because he's a world champion doesn't make him infallible or perfect. I know people in the SKA that are the highest ranks you can get and still learn something new everyday and correct something they've been doing wrong.

  • @fartface0469 -Chatanyara kusanku isn't derived from Kanku; Kusanku is the name of the Monk, translated into Okinawan as Kosokun. Kanku (looking at the sky) is the derivative form as Sho and Dai are shorter, and taught across Wado/Shito/Shoto styles. Kanku (jap. looking at sky)was added before WW2 for nationalistic reasons

Mr Diaz performed an excellent kata, admittedly stylised in some places, and the positioning, breathing, movement and dachi are different to shotokan,

    Could you be wrong?

  • @3capsmark Quite true - my brother went to Okinawa in the United States Marine Corps (3rd Marine Expeditionary Force). This is exactly what they do in Okinawa - great place, too. :)

  • @3capsmark LOL, I might be...Regardless it is still a badly performed Kata.

  • @fartface0469 - I respect your right to your opinion, sir,and think some of your observations on kata for show are valid; However, you're applying shotokan embusen, kihon and bunkai to a man performing shitoryu/shukokai kata. The principles, dachi, kime points, etc are different. What you wish to see in Kanku Dai is no more applicable in Kosokundai(shitoryu)/Kushaknu(wado) than it is in this much older kata, which is older than styles,

  • @fartface0469 - please accept that I saying i have more karate knowledge than you, but I believe in my knowledge of my craft, and I accepted there was stylisation in the kata. But Mr diaz gave an outstanding demonstration of balance, agility, flexibility, hip usage, ballistic movement, dynamic tension, and breathing, ie the principles of the style, without giving a 100% demo of how every technique lands. This is Kata - not everything is as it seems. I think you have been presumptuous, sir. Sorry

  • @fartface0469 - sorry about the last post - I meant to say I am NOT claiming more karate knowledge than you. No disrespect intended, Kind regards, Mark

  • @fartface0469 sorry about the last post - I meant to say I am NOT claiming more karate knowledge than you. No disrespect intended, Kind regards, Mark

  • @3capsmark No offense was taken good sir, your right I am taking an SKA eye to the Kata being performed. I was also ignorant to the Kanku adaptation to the Kata Kusanku for that I thank you. He does demonstrate good principles his ballistic movement accounts for not if he doesn't keep connection to the ground with his heels granted some of the movements of this particular Kata call for it. All of his shuto's are horrible his elbow should be a fists distance from his side hand shldrlevel

  • Respond to this video...

This is just purely my opinion I mean no offense, I have other bones with his stances and his timing choices but its all from an SKA eye. Not a bunkai eye though, I believe all Kata performed should be performed as if you are in a life or death situation. Mark your a cool dude thanks for the input sincerely maybe I shall talk at you again later. Rock on til then

  • @fartface0469 - Mr Marchand - thank you for your gracious reply, Sir. I understand your points well, and accept what you have to say. From a personal point of view from a guy who loves traditional karate and have had the honour of competing in kata for my country, I love both. Mr Diaz, before and since, has performed far superior versions, I personally perform shuto-uke, as you have described, elbow a fist away, but he, and a number of top-ranked Japanese and Europeans do shuto uchi

  • This is a form of serieto, which is aimed as a thrusting strike to the sternum. From a purist point of view I would love to see shutouke-shutouchi to show defence-attack, and the different ranges, but this would not be easy to judge.

Mr Marchand, questions and comments like yours make me think a lot about my style, and challenge me to study, and look again at the footage. You are passionate and seem very knowledgeable, and I wish you and your teachers health and long life!

    Mark

  • @3capsmark Thank you Mark, not only for the kind words, but your input as well. You say that I make you think about your style and challenge you to study it more, I can say the same about you, since our first encounter I've done more research and personal reflection both outwardly and inwardly, then when I first started my Shotokan training. For that I thank you. I've had many revelations on different acts of Bunkai for my Kata's in doing so. I too wish you and your Sensi's the very best.

  • Respond to this video... I don't know if your familiar with Heian Nidan but there is a section in it of which utilizes the shuto-uke and if demonstrated on someone, shows both the defense and attack power that is hidden in them. Our class does a lot of ereme (I'm not sure I spelled that right, but its basically the act of reading your opponent mind and knowing when their going to act and beating them to the punch, literally) but we use a lot of Shuto-uke in both our defense and attack

  • I am more familiar with Pinan Nidan(shito-Ryu form) but have a working knowledge of Heian Nidan too, as my association is multi style, and I have had points explained from one of the Shotokan Sensei in the group.

Both ur styles agree on the bunkai being attack and defence - I just feel that the kata embusen would benefit from showing it openly, even though it would be hard to referee competitively

Good point, thank you for mentioning it - Mark

  • Respond to this video... Mark I respect and thank you for all your gracious input, its rare to find someone who acts like a karate-do practitioner. Karate is a dieing art and so is its mind set, no one know about Rei anymore nor does anyone. Its a crying shame, please sir keep up the great work and I hope to hear from you again. Sir until then *Respectfully Bows*

  • Mr Marchand, thank you for your dialogue - I have been lucky that I have studied under a number of traditional sensei with traditional values, but understanding of modern requirements. We bow in class and to each other, we like to have a little fun, but try to practice with seriousness and manners for 90% of the class. We discuss and debate, but remain friends, and never argue openly in class

I love constructive and open debate, and you have offered both, Sir

    Kind regards

    Oss

    *respectful bow*

  • I am a beginner with white belt. It has been a long day for me too...

  • Well executed & precise! OUTSTANDING! os

  • nice demonstration, very good technics

    well done :-)

  • this is so cinematic.

and the guy is great, too.

He can be an action movie star.

  • This guy is awesome. Hes always been one of the highest rank Kata competitors next to Italia, France, and Peru. Hes from Venezuala (I think I spelled it worng.) lol He always has nice cool hair when he competes. AMAZING PREFORMANCE.

  • The multiple camera angles give an ostentatious vibe. Interesting how amateurs upload themselves while the real masters remain silent and inconspicuous. Rarely do you see Shaolin Monks exploit their culture like this. Shame that such an art form is being exploited to have only vanity. Real Katas should put fear into the beholder. Almost all of these videos on YouTube just make stupid people with no prior knowledge of real martial arts say "Wow" and give a thumbs up.

    ~20 yr Martial Art Disciple

  • @matrixate Actually, sir, Shaolin monks have upped their public exposure over the last few years. Under the new abbott they have now, they've become much more commercialized thru their exhibition and tourist attraction efforts. But the art itself has not changed, they simply have given it more exposure

  • Muy bueno el video Antonio :)

    Un abrazo

'David Villarroel se parece cada vez mas a ti ;) hahahaha'

    See you!

  • Another 1000 mile per hr kata full of gimmicks and sound effects caused by the guy slapping himself using slight of hand. What happened to the true beauty of kata! Answer: European shit heads got a hold to it!

  • @osensei2987 exactly what i was thinking this isnt how a kata should be this is a show right from the start and him screaming the name of his kata i knew i was on to a losser

  • nice work dude keep it up

Katas are difficult to execute, there's a lot of control and energy flow you can see it perfectly after he've finished performing the kata, he's regaining his breath

  • Comment removed

  • Perhaps I am too "Kyokushin" but I do'nt see the point of so much difficult techniqes and combinations (besides the mental challenge of corse) without power.

Kata has to bring you the harmony between your body mind and spirit it's more like a meditation, and I think this kind of Kata cannot give you that...

I'm curious, who felt the same way watching this video... but I'll listen to every opinion of corse.

    Osu!!

  • @dobermannbrother Well, there are many kinds of power. Power thru direct force, reaction force, internal, external, list goes on. Different branches of karate place emphasis on different ways to apply power. Ashihara, for example, is an offshoot of Kyokushin, but it relies on angles and applying power from angles rather than straight-on....

  • I know what Ashihara is... Kata should be a "mobile meditation" and it has the point of bringing your external and internal powers to harmony. (Allso you can practice trough Kata "Kime" and stability.).

  • @dobermannbrother Right, I figured you already knew seeing as how you study Kyokushin, I was just illustrating. And you are correct about blending internal and external power together in kata. This demo, however, is done at tournament speed, which tends to sacrifice such a blend for the sake of impressing judges w/speed. Sadly, most YouTube displays of this kata are from tournaments. If you search for "Zenpo Shimabukuro Kusanku," you will see a much better demo, done by a true master. OSU!

  • @deek77 I agree... However, I will never sacrifice my Kata for a medal,

(I am planning to compete in my way though).

I will seek up the video, I am courious how this Kata sould be done...

Thank you for your kind reply!

    Osu!

  • @dobermannbrother I share that sentiment 100%, brother. I'd rather do each technique as if it is the one will save my life, because it just might be one day. Hope you enjoy the video, there's actually several of him doing different kata and at different ages. But all of them are excellent displays of Okinawan karate, and I say this as one who studies Japanese karate. Anyways, be blessed. Osu!

  • @deek77 Yeeah... The diference is huge... I like to watch old masters doing Kata... they have so much Ki and they always impress me with such a display of power.

    Osu!

  • @dobermannbrother Agreed, that's why they deserve the title of master.

  • la cata estqa henial pero la cancionsita k le pones la caga

  • Too many close ups, and funky angles. It is not really possible to tell how good his kata is since stance is key in correct kata. There are very few shots that show his stances, especially when he makes a transition from one to another. For video of kata the videographer should use the KISS system. Keep It Simple Stupid! Antonio looks very talented, just how talented we can't tell from this video.

  • his technique is strong.

  • It seems to me Kata is close to dynamic meditation. This one is great!

  • Wow. thats all I can say about that.

  • i couldnt see anything wrong in that kata i say its perfect

  • Comment removed

  • Antonio el mejor!!!

  • @Angelikpr y el mas wapo uff papasito:P

  • One day I will see a westerner do a real kata! But today is not that day!

  • Very nice. Well done.

  • its soo much cooler in real life

  • i met him in real life no kidding srsly dont mark this as spam

  • @kboy1231 I believe you =p

I saw a guy that took 2nd place in the world championship!

  • @RomeoSOF2 thank you for believing me :)

and seeing a guy win 2nd in the world championships is kinda common well kinda

    thats awesome though!

  • @kboy1231 Common? Seeing a kyokushin world championship 2nd prize winner is common? =o

  • @RomeoSOF2 well sorry :/ i needed detail lol

and this guy taught me some things but of course i need to practice it :D

  • @kboy1231 Hehe, Donatas Imbras taught me some things too =p

All the best Lithuanians karatekas were there - The Lithuanian Republic Kyokushin Karate Camp! =p

  • @RomeoSOF2 NICE!

  • ese es uno de mis katas favoritos... excelente Antonio, eres mi heroe =)

  • Teach me, I can do it!!!

  • great!!!

  • yeaaaa!!! pure venezuelan talent to the world!!! :D

  • Sr Director, translate the follow text:

Como se puede ofender a un campeon mundial con esta asquerosidad de tomas, que mal este video. todo fuera sido mejor con un plano general y listo! pero bueno hay directores malos y camarografos malos como estos!

  • Beautiful. Pure poetry.

  • What's with the music?

  • kata is kumite, kumite is kata...the end =)

  • Can someone tell me what Antonio says just before he starts the kata?

  • awesome speed, stances, and kata. u have trained Alex and ur other students well.

  • awesome speed

  • now that is art!

  • Why the dummy in the back is wearing taekwondo protection? maybe he trains beating imaginary taekwondo practicioners? does the dummy dont want his ribs broken? hahaha

  • wow that was beautiful!!!

  • Dude's quick. Nice form performance.

  • Legal, legal.

  • wish you would zoom out and not do half shots of this kata pointless you need to see whole body movement

  • Gorgeous. Absolutely awesome.

  • Lindo Kata... Nada mas anude bien ese cinturon Sempai... Las puntas deben tener el mismo largo...

  • Antonio Diaz is the best, your videos are very good so I can further hone my Katas

  • dis is kosikindai in shito ryu

  • que coisa mais gay da porra.

  • Amazing Knife hand,so crisp so clean.I know many people think kata is wasteful, but the kata is to throw your punches, kicks and blocks with the best possible technique, speed and controlled power. You also learn to switch techniques and directions in an economical fashion.

  • id still kick his ass lmao

  • i love the way you own stupid bitches that dont know what they are saying about fighting XD

  • the speed is impressive but i think your hands are sloppy im a first dan in kyokushin

  • @redstarthunder12 you telling something to a world kata champion, dont make me laugh

  • what was that? how does it work ?

  • what is the make and style of dogi he is wearing? Anyone know?

  • @MrMikeod Hello, I believe he's using the Hirota Pinack Dogi. It's one of the most used out there currently. Hirota is like the new Shureido, and they're good dogis(if you can afford them). Hope this helps, God Bless.

    - Lucas

  • Sensei donde queda su dojo aqui en venezuela

  • I totally agree with "Mrlco"!!

  • Impressive, though I don't really notice any hipmovement ... He's got strong and fast arms, but that's not really a way of using your whole body to transfer power. Let's just say that I can't really find the balance in his performance.

  • os sensey antonio diaz es el mejor en kata

  • The kata is not bunkai based in this video, it is a performance. In order to understand things as intricate as striking hand shape the bunkai must be applied and training focused in that regard. You simply can not understand what is happening without a visual image of it. Many techniques are far too fast, fights do not unfold like that. Contrary to itotsu1, there is little strong kime. A good kata should look like a fight, not a series of karate moves. Karate is a martial art, not a sport.

  • totally agree

  • Great editing and cinematography...also great athleticism.

  • when kids do this... its playing karate.. when adults do this.....its called Kata

  • kata queen. Can he fight?

  • ahahah wing chung is better

  • AWESOME!

  • Although i practice shotokan,this was a very good kata performance,very strong,excellent kime.

  • What he does he does well. I'm just saying. It's not very impressive unless there is an ends, some sort of purpose, to these movements and shouts.

  • The purpose to the movements are many. This is essentially an imaginary fight, and allows demonstartion, improvement and practice of techniques. By going over them with precision and making sure the technique is to the higest standard you increase ability to use the techniques and stances in kumite.

The 'shouts' are used to exhale air and make your abdomen and chest less damageable. When full of air vital organs are able to move much more in your body, which you don't want in a fight.

  • yes there is release of anger and the forms are very important but i find anything like this is too military wearing of uniforms and stuff. its agood art i do it myself but ihate tha tside of it the uniforms
