Willem-Alexander and Maxima walked into the church together for a couple reasons; One, they were already married. Their civil wedding was earlier that day, I believe. Two, in many European countries, it is the custom for the bride and groom to walk into the church together anyhow. So had the first point not been true, the second one would have come into play.

Princess Maxima's parents did not attend the wedding due to controversy regarding her father's political past. Thus, Prince Willem-Alexander and Princess Maxima entered the church together.

Maxima's father, Jorge Zorreguieta, was the Minister of Agriculture during the military dictatorship of President Videla in Argentina in the 1970s. Up to 30,000 Argentine civilians disappeared during this time; which caused quite a discussion in Holland during Willem-Alexander and Maxima's courtship. Research was done into her father's past by the Dutch government before they approved the engagement, and he was found not to have been involved with the deaths/etc...

@JessRulz And what does that mean? That because of the fact that his father worked during a corrupted goverment princess maxima is guilty of something?

1. Argentina has in all its history corrupted people and goverments during all his history, and no body can teach me that, because I studied and lived there, due to I am Argentinian.

2. If you are a father and do something wrong, does that mean that your children are guilty because of you?! That's a mere ignorant critisism.

Jorge then offered to not attend the wedding because of the controversy his past was still creating. Maxima's mother, Carmen, also did not attend in support of her husband.

No it have nothing to do with the absent of here father. This is just not the practice in the Dutch reformed church. This is a marriage before God and not recognized by Dutch law. So first there is a civil ceremony at City hall.

Also, in the dutch protestant church doesn`t have an aisle and it is practice that bride and groom enter the church together for they are already lawlfully wedded.

@nastykurtbadboy No, that is an Anglo Saxon tradition. In most European countries the bride and groom are already married when entering the church. The only legal wedding is the one in the town hall. The religious one is merely ceremonial.
