The usual radio songs that were constantly played just made me cringe with instant dislike...then the advent of satellite radio, internet, Youtube etc helped change that somewhat. I never doubtedm their talent, but songs like this, Carouselambra, Bron-Y-Aur Stomp just are fantastic....
@jakeelee904 Just listen to the bass in the fade-out [ after the whole song of course ] I had an epiphany with this just recently and I first started playing this song when it was released ! !! The slow groove with John Bonham is really nothing short of genius the way he plays the octave Es in perfect groove with the drum beat is simply phenomenal !!! Give it a 2nd listen !!! It's good to lisetn to tis with a pair of high-end headphones too btw !
Another reason why I identify with Zeppelin. They compose music for the spritual being. Zeppelin roots sprout from juvenile lust through lifetime seeking maturity and spirtual love. Other bands spoke about culture and politics, Zeppelin spoke to peoples heart and soul about love finding meaning in your life.

I think Joe Walsh must have been listening to PG pretty constantly when he wrote Life in the Fast Lane --- cause he sure appropriated a lot of Jimmy's riffs from here. Maybe it was payback for Jimmy buying his famous Les Paul from Walsh in '69 for the princely sum of $500. Walsh must've been drunk when Page did the deal. Jimmy Page never misses an opportunity. LOL
@streetparade In 1982 I traded my '59 tiger sunburst LP for a Harley. When I was 21 4 grand was a lot!!! 'course that guitar might be valuable today!!!
I first saw LZ in Chicago at the Kinetic Playground in 1969. Both they and Jethro Tull were the opening acts for Vanilla Fudge. They each played 2 sets and it cost a whopping 5 bucks! It was general admission and since the Fudge was not a big draw the place was only half full. We sat on the floor right at the front of the stage and kibitzed with Page & Plant between songs. Rock & Roll heaven!
@Rauser142 OOOOhhhhh okay find a better band then they prove that the band is better and then we can discuss because at least i believe there's nothing better than led zeppelin

You are actually experiencing the spirit of the African Man and all his glory. Zeppelin were extremely good copycats, even copying the the spiritual incantations of Africa. Abhor the Beatles they were fakes...
@joey23125 Oh god here we go...what ever douche bag! Why do blacks have to make everything a racial issue....the reality of the so called 'spirit of the African man is tribal drums, bongos and maybe a flute....the Africans did now what real music (let alone notes, guitars, etc) until the white man enlsaved them. yes Led zeppelin got inspiration from the blues, but where do you think the black man learned music from. LOL?
@zoso1234 Um... how do you know he's black and was your racial tirade any better than his comment? In fact, your comment was actually more racial then the one you replied to.
@zoso1234 Hey why don't you look up the history instead of running your ignorant mouth. The guitar was introduced to Europe by the Moors (Black Africans). Even your Southern hillbilly music is African music, look up the origins of the Banjo (brought over to America by Africans.) I hope your European colleagues aren't reading this, it only confirms what they already know, that all their ignorant criminals were shipped off to America. That's why they have a progressive society and you don't.
@joey23125 I know history dumb ass and of course your pea brain is wrong; here's the facts:40 CE the Romans have a cithara which is brought to Spain and combined with the Moorish oud; 8th century CE - 6 stringed instruments in use in Europe; 12th century CE - 4 string guitars in use, some with central sound hole;15th and 16th century the Spanish have guitar like, but lute-tuned, instruments...you nigs always claim other peoples inventions as your own, lol...fucking pathetic ass race!
This song reminds me of my freshman year year in high school. I would stay home and jam out to Led Zeppelin all day. I had 27 absences in one semester and failed all my classes, but I don't regret a single moment of it.
@blr60cal Yes, brings back memories of my '68 camaro, hot stoner chicks, awesome beach parties and just goodtimes until family obligations and the 9 to 5 inslavement, lol
As a musician who learned and played almost every Zep tune ever released, I could say this may be my favorite song on the album. The drum intro, and every thing Bonzo plays thereafter is awe-inspiring. Jonesy's bass line is perfection. @ericjungleboy I have noticed that too on this album . I assume its because Plant was having alot of trouble with his vocal chords at that time . Sounds great though
@Cincinnatus1869 But he was only having trouble with his vocal chords on about half of the songs. The other half were recorded in 1974, when his voice was sounding great, and this song is one of those, but they still kept his vox low in the mix. They did the same thing on a couple songs on Houses of the Holy and i think maybe even on a couple of songs on Zep 4.
To the 31 who dislike this video, may you some day understand the brilliance and power of Led Zeppelin. Until that day comes, may you enjoy the simplicity of your feeble minds.
wish people would check out more of zep than just what classic radio plays. zep was incredibly diverse-as much as i love black dog, rock n roll and stairway, i'm sick to death of them.
present proof. I'm not gay and nor am I fat. Let's see if you can post some pictures or video or even one shred of evidence to support your idiotic insults!
This brings back so many memories of great times, great parties, singing with this song, but really loud (and out of key) dancing on the table, beer, wine, marijuana, ...... Oh how I wonder where time went so quickly. Feels like yesterday we were completely blown of our feet by the music of LZ. Time goes by, but we have so many memories to cherish......
However this song is and always has been one of my favs.
I just noticed that on the fourth anniversary of the Led Zeppelin Reunion concert there was an eclipse of the moon, visible from "the dark side of the globe." "Still by the firelight, in purple moonlight, I hear the wrested rivers call." On one level Zeppelin really rocks, but there's much more to it than that.
"and the wind is crying, from a love that won't grow cold"...i'm trying to describe what i'm feeling while listening to this song, but i can't, because the feeling is indescribable...just like the song
Pink Floyd is a whole different genra of rock music, more like psychedelic rock and or theatre/art rock I suppose; but when I listen to Zeppelin it's like a rocket ride into the Stratosphere!
When I set back and listen to music, I don't want to listen to a technical machine player. Instead, I'd much rather hear creative music, and that's why I didn't bog down my own music with overly technical solos and shit like that. My choice was to keep it at a moderately technical level and concentrate more at being creative. And, of course, I'm no where near Led Zeppelin's level either, but at least I admit that!
The real purpose of music is to be creative! Many bands today are outrageously overly technical but are way way off the mark when it comes to creative song writing. What a lot of people don't know about Jimmy Page is that he was very very capable of extreme technical playing being friends with guys like Les Paul, John McLaughlin, etc. But he wanted to concentrate MORE on being creative. Led Zeppelin is way better than ANY BAND of today simply for that reason. They were way more creative!
Zeppelin blows away all the other bands from the 60's 70's and early 80's! They we're truly innovators that influence many style of rock music after they split up and went their separate ways.
the blow away the best of the best bands from now times! Too many of them got their heads up their own asses thinking they're the best because of technical playing, but what they forgot to realize is that music is much more about creativity! Zep and floyd still out rank all of the rest in that category. Like it or not, it is the truth and you know it!
DAMMIT! At first I thought Robert said "Dark Side of the Moon" and I got way excited. PINK FLOYD and Zeppelin, ftw! But alas, no. Still a great song, though.
@iamironman211 i think that is exactly what mothxal was referring to. the extreme fanatic behaviour. I agree completely with the musical prowess led zeppelin possessed. but rock has many different forms. so you cant state that zeppelin is simply the best, only that zeppelin is ONE of the best. zeppelin cant be compared to the, say, the velvet underground as both are completely different rock categories. but at the same time both can be considered the best so far in their respective categories
look dude, none of that other shit is as good as Led Zeppelin. Pink Floyd is about the only other band that is at their level! AND THAT IS IT! SO YEAH! HE IS RIGHT!
@SHamed92 1st off you should be ASHAMED ... 2cnd don't be absurd ... The point of "Fantasy" teams are to create the best possible scenario allowed by the laws of physics ... I am simply stating that under no circumstance past, present, or future has a more perfect musical conglomeration existed than the band that is Led Zeppelin ... when John Bonham died, that magical union died with it ... not the only band worth listening to ... SIMPLY THE BEST BAND IN THE HISTORY OF ROCK AND ROLL BAR NONE !!!
Zeppelin fans annoy me. Can't people enjoy them without nonsensical theories about how Zeppelin is not only the bestest band ever, but also the only truly worthwhile music?
@mothxal I've got some words of wisdom for you ... FUCK OFF AND DIE !!! ... I'm sure it's not the 1st time you've been told to do so ... and it certainly won't be the last ...
I was introduced to Led Zeppelin from my father when i was only 5 years old, since then they have been my favorite band to listen to and play with on the guitar, this is my favorite song by them, thank you for posting this, you rock!

wish people would check out more of zep than just what classic radio plays. zep was incredibly diverse-as much as i love black dog, rock n roll and stairway, i'm sick to death of them.

And, of course, I'm no where near Led Zeppelin's level either, but at least I admit that!
guitarttimman 1 month ago
The real purpose of music is to be creative! Many bands today are outrageously overly technical but are way way off the mark when it comes to creative song writing. What a lot of people don't know about Jimmy Page is that he was very very capable of extreme technical playing being friends with guys like Les Paul, John McLaughlin, etc. But he wanted to concentrate MORE on being creative. Led Zeppelin is way better than ANY BAND of today simply for that reason. They were way more creative!

Kick ass song! One of my many favs...

Zeppelin blows away all the other bands from the 60's 70's and early 80's! They we're truly innovators that influence many style of rock music after they split up and went their separate ways.
zoso1234 2 months ago
@zoso1234
the blow away the best of the best bands from now times!

Saw Zep Five times here on West coast, Best band ever, maybe not, greatest live band, in my mind, yes.....Total swag.....

@SHamed92
look dude, none of that other shit is as good as Led Zeppelin. Pink Floyd is about the only other band that is at their level! AND THAT IS IT! SO YEAH! HE IS RIGHT!
guitarttimman 1 month ago
@iamironman211 so basically you're claiming led zeppelin's music to be the only worthwhile music to listen to?
SHamed92 2 months ago

Can't people enjoy them without nonsensical theories about how Zeppelin is not only the bestest band ever, but also the only truly worthwhile music?
mothxal 2 months ago
@mothxal I've got some words of wisdom for you ... FUCK OFF AND DIE !!! ... I'm sure it's not the 1st time you've been told to do so ... and it certainly won't be the last ...
