  • Thanks ,,I'm a new boat owner & on my own at the lake ,,doing it by myself,,,,this covered all the bases,,,,going today for the first time...Thanks again.

  • Get a fricken SeaDoo.

  • at 4:15 i think i peed a little

  • I like to loosen the winch a couple of clicks so it isn`t under much strain when boat and trailer are stored away

  • lol make sure the ball is down

  • @jeffreyho30 , Hmm, It's been quite a while now since I made this and I suspect you found another one of my undetected bloopers. I also know about another one were I refer to the trailer brake cable as the lights. Oh well as long as we keep our balls down we're ok, right :) .

  • Thank-you very much for taking the time to do that video, I did not know that power loading can damage the ramp.

  • THANKS!! This helps so much! I just got a boat and was a little nervous on how to launching and recovering!

  • I would use oars before I use a Mercury

  • at :47 i couldnt see it well but you are supposed to criss cross the chains. i think you did it though but i didnt see it

  • mercruiser nice.

  • These straps are efficient. Here is the easiest quick tie boat docking device on the market. It's the only tie down that quickly sets the height of the boat fender and ties the boat off all with one rope. No knots required and when out on the water it serves as a tie down for inner tubes, igloos, use it as a clothesline or chain boats together. See BuoyRope.com

  • Hi, this is very informative but please, your music at the end is way too loud. I am watching this to learn not to be entertained. If I cannot hear your words over the music then what is the point?

  • @shatros Thanks shatros, I use your suggestion in future videos.

  • Crossing chains (shown in the video), to cradle the tongue should it drop, should be mentioned. This is a legal requirement in some states.

  • nice elevator music

  • OK sms373, I'm sure there are advantages and disadvantages to both but I'll bite, why do you prefer the outdrive.

  • Why would you want a 3.0l mercuser? I would get it with an outbord

  • great video! thanks

  • sometimes u have to kinda power load like when your back your truck tires in the water and there is alge. so u have to trim the motor in the water enough to help the truck up the ramp if not u lose tred off your tires from spinning the wheels then guess what? u have to pay $200.00 dollars for a 2 pairs of tires so do that if happends and if u back the trailer in to far while using winch the boat will drift off but not with the motor cause the motor can go against the wind

  • @keelsfamily Or you could use a 4x4 truck and you wouldnt have anything to worry about

  • @gregg53186 This is a good point. We just had a sign installed by our dock reminding of this along with the potential for zebra mussels.

  • y dont u power load?

  • @keelsfamily, I used to think power loading was the right way but found out that it damages the boat ramp by removing soil that supports the ramp. I think the term is undermining and then the ramp drops and cracks.

  • o i will tell my dad dont power load thax

  • we have water proof tel lights is do we still have to unplug them?

  • @keelsfamily, It is the rapid temperature change that damages the lights, even if they are sealed. If your lights are LEDs then I think your ok, but I'm not sure.

  • dude u he did it the right way!

  • Great video...well done! You may want to take a look at a video on onemaneasyloader web site that helps boaters launch and unload. My father designed the ramp to attach to boat trailers.

  • much appreciated! We have the ext sv6 & we were nervous about towing the boat. Thanks for the video!

  • Nice video. Thanks alot!!!!

  • Good work: putting the wheels in water, Try this in salt water and wait a few month, to see the result on the mechanic : do you have too much money and you want to buy a new trailer every year ?

This video is "the wrong way" to launch a boat.

    Learn before wanting to teach...

  • @Iclo22 , well ok I'll bite. How do you put your boat in the water if you don't put your trailer in the water?

  • well u do back the trailer in at salt water but i guess he did not wash the trailer after be pulled out

  • @Iclo22 Use a fresh water hose and clean them off. Hose off the brakes if you have them too. Grease the bearings and you'll be fine. It's preventive maintenance.

  • @Iclo22

WTF ? You obviously dont know what what you are talking about. The trailer wheels ARE SUPPOSED TO GO IN THE DAMN WATER WHEN YOU LAUNCH A BOAT ! How the hell else would you get the boat to float off the trailer ?

The poster knows how to launch a boat, YOU DONT !

  • @earlstafari : You don't need to be agressive.

I have a real trailer with a winch, the boat simply roll down to the water.

With the technic to put the complete trailer in the water, Welkome the troubles with meccanic and the brakes...

  • @Iclo22

The trailer in this video is NOT designed for the boat launch technique you are describing. This trailer (just like my boat trailer) is designed to be submerged for boat launching and retrieval.

If I tried your technique I would have outdrive and hull damage.

  • I love how you support our troops! If you don't stand behind our troops, feel free to stand in front of them. And great video, we got a bayliner 1996 40th anniversary edition and whenever we load the boat onto the trailer, it is never lined up properly. We always have to have ppl in the water to hold it in place.

  • also 1 thng with towing u should disengage that overdrive if u didnt know its easier on your tranny and some launches like the 1 i regulary go to actully requires you to hose off your boat remove your plug and all weeeds from boat and trailer and you can get a pretty hefty fine for not doing so

  • I to am wondering about the weight of the boat. I just bought a Sunbird 185 with a 4.3 OMC. Its 17, 3 and weights 2100 lbs. I am pulling it with a nissan xterra 3.3 supercharged with a tow weight of 5000 lbs. I am still nervous about launching it this weekend because I have not found much info on how well the nissans pull or will do on the ramp. I hope if you van does good with a boat I will be fine as well..

  • @sshepherd81 if your nervous pick a launch sight that is sement not dirt and alot of cement launches face rivets in the cement to help with traction dont be too woried though i have a 22 ft sea ray overnighter i and i can get it in and out of the water just fine with an old jeep grand cherokee just go nice and slow like he said pulling it out youll be less likely to spin tires if ramp is wet and slimy

  • @cntryguy146 Thank for the tips. I am luck about launch ramps because they are cement around here. So you are right I will just take it nice and slow and not push my xterra while towing

  • is your van all wheel drive or does it have any special shocks or anything?

And how much does this boat wiegh?

  • @pamh1984 , good question, the Van is a stock Uplander with 3.5L V6. The short wheel base has a 2000 lb tow capacity and the long has 3500 lb capacity. I looked into air shockes and did add a transmission oil cooler. We live on the praries with no hills and the trip to the launch is only 3 km. The front wheel drive made me nervous about wet boat launches but we have had no problems.

  • PFD = Personal Fuck Dolls

  • Minivan towing FTW. When we get a boat ( probally a BayLiner 175 lol) we will tow with our 2005 Mazda Mpv with the Tow Package until we get a real truck. Rated at 3,000lbs max.

  • Very helpful

  • this is such a great vid.

    Thank you ! :)

  • Awesome vid

  • Good video to help first-time boat owners, not sure why the amusement over a mini-van (it's just a 175...gees. He's not towing a yacht!)

Now...I *will* say that the abrupt music change at 7:40 is kinda funny...it goes from happy-go-lucky to "Stand at attention and park that boat, you maggot!" lol...So it kinda cracked me up but once again...great video for the new boat owner.

(Also liked the 20 hour service ones). :-)

  • I'd like to suggest, especially when parking on a steep ramp, that you set the emergency brake BEFORE taking your foot off the brake and putting the vehicle in park. This way the parking "pawl" or pin is not bearing the entire load of the vehicle plus boat & trailer.

  • Now that is an excellent suggestion. I know the force that is required to pull it back into gear when you forget to do that.

  • I also find it Much easyer if you open the back of your car to see better and if you have a truck lower your tailgate :) I find it much better

  • i went to give you a thumbs up and missed.. soz :(

  • Thank you for the video, Mr. Dunphy! After one day of boating during a vacation to the Salt Lake City area, i've decided to purchase a boat for myself for a lake that is about 2 hours away from my home. This video really does help out a lot. Keep up the great videos!

  • good video, nice clean little 3 lieter, nice clean bayliner.. Here in the N.W. we use the term "recover" for a broken down boat and use the term "haul out" for loading her back on the trailer. I like that your trailering safety chains are crossed, good job!

  • Are you in the army? Nothing wrong, just asking!

    Great vid anyway!!!!

  • check out seawolf150dotcom

  • nice video, however, towing that boat with that van, it's hard to beleive that people can take you seriously.

  • Great video thanks!

I'm fine launching the boat by myself, but not when idiots are blocking the immediate part of the docks where you would pull your boat using bow and stern lines and tie against after launching. Basically making it impossible to launch...how would you launch and tie your boat by yourself in that situation and a busy day?

I want to see what you guys would do if these idiots are just sitting there blocking that precious part of the dock. Tell them to drive their boats away?

  • The boat launch I regularly use doesn't even have a dock, other than neighboring private docks.

So, I just pull it back up onto the sand shore beside the ramp, and tie the bow line to a tree if the water's rough. My boat's light enough that I can get it on the shore enough to hold it most of the time, though...

You might ask them to move their boat so you can launch yours, but if they refuse, just look for another place to park it up on the shoreline...

  • Shit....after that it is time to pull the boat in.....FUCK.....we didnt even get to go for a boat ride!

  • i allways forget the plug and then realize about 3 hours later when i get a wet ass lol

  • and what if you don't HAVE an assistant?? I like to fish on off days, when no one else is able to go.

  • Well I have those days too. Just like you probably do now, launch the boat tie it off while you park your vehicle.

  • GET READY BEFORE THE DAY YOUR GOING LOL

  • I have a roller trailer and it is so easy. For recovering I back in so thet the back rollers just tuch the water. Then I go slowly to the trailer until the bow hits the rollers. Then I plane on until the bow hits the bow stop.

  • well we have to give our boatalot of gas to get it on the trilor properly. We have a huge boat so we cant see the front... will that be ok if you give it alittle gas to put it back on we have a sensitive boat and i dont want to destroy it again >_>

  • If you have a boat that big maybe you want to keep it in a marina. If you power on I heard you can damage the boat ramp by causing erosion under the concrete pad.

  • lol mini van ha!

  • guess I have always done it wrong. I unstrap just as the stern goes over the water then I put the wife in the boat and brake check it right before my truck tires touch water. Has worked for years and no one is ever faster than me at the launch. Some times you get a splash over the stern.

  • I like your video. I have the same boat as you do. I didn't know how deep to backup the trailer for recovery and this video helped me (other things as well were usefull). I have Ford Escape, AWD, no issues at all. Question: should we during transportation support outboard unit (a piece of wood).

  • sweet video dude!thanks..............

  • I have heard that supporting the stern drive over long distances is recommended. I do not do this in my 1.5 hours back & forth to the lake. It might depend on the type of terrain you are on also.

  • is that a bunk or a roller trailer?

  • My trailer is a bunk, which holds the boat from rolling back upon launch and after driving up.

  • I love engine-less launches. No drama, no damage, no issues, easy. I wish other people would do it this way.

  • Nice clip. Maybe it will help people who literally take a half hour at the launch because they have no clue what they're doing.

BTW, good job, enjoy your boat. Looks like a perfect fuel efficient let's go to the lake for the day boat!

    Cheers

  • Very helpful. Launching my little 14 ft. Lowe for the first time this weekend. Thanks for the post and the details.

  • HkySk8r187, well as it was our first year of boat ownership, the other person has 0 experience with driving boats so that video would end up on funniest videos. We do enjoy the use of this very quiet boat lauch, that I'm sure many first time boaters would like to learn at.

  • Wish I had a quiet boat ramp when I was learning. I got thrown right in and had to figure it all out while 50 people sat and watched haha

  • its a privte boa ramp.lol

  • In my many years of boating I have never seen anyone launch their boat with a rope like that LOL. Why doesn't that other person just sit in the boat and drive it off the trailer? This is crazy and would never work at a busy boat launch where the dock is far away or maybe even no dock at all.

  • Same here lol.....I was DRIVING our boat of the trailer when i was 6 years old

  • Ideal vid for the beginner - well done. Would like to add: for stern drive boats - when not trailering - trim the leg down to reduce stress and increase longevity of the rubber elbows. (this will stop it stretching and cracking/leaking)

  • This is a good point. We had one sink at our lake due to a muskrat eating a hole in the bellows. Leaving it down in the water helps prevent that, too.

  • nice boat!!!

  • gracias buen video

  • Thanks for submitting this video.

  • this launch really help me learn how to launch my vessel thanks for the video

  • Sure you can tow a 2000 lb boat with a suburban but why? Matching your boat to your vehicle towing capacity is important but no need for over kill. 4WD or AWD can certainly help on steep, slippery ramps.

  • got to use the surburban tows 10,000lbs 5tons aprox

  • The chevy uplander has problems towing my sea flea. So what kind of gas did you put in it to pull that big boat.

Also outboard motors are way better then inboards.

  • Mini Van??

  • Well yes it is a Mini Van. Sorry if it's not to your liking but it holds a lot of stuff and can pull the 175 to/from the lake.

  • Well at least it works and what ever works is just the way it goes.

  • Well after getting a few more comments, it's time I chime in.

Remember this is a starter video for people who have little or no experience, to learn the ropes.

For busy boat ramps it would be good for the new owners to stand-by and watch a while and practice when the ramp is not too busy. To back down the ramp without the tie-downs is ok for the experienced boaters, but don't forget your safety chain.

Powering on is quick but can undermine the ramp leading to premature wear & tear.

  • Great video. Do you Know you to change the bellows? And cable?

Probably the best video I've seen for the 175.

  • Disconnecting the battery after using your boat is something you should never forget.

  • you dont need to cheak the engine every time you use it and when you launch it some could just back the boat of the trailer

  • You never prepare your boat "just short of the water" this backs up the line on the ramp. Prepare your boat for launch in the parking lot, then back down the ramp straight into the water. Do everything you need to do away from the ramp to spend as little time on the ramp possible. Especially on a busy day.

  • down in the south u don't know how to do thins stuff by ur self and faster than this guy u wouldn't own a boat and if u went slow like him would be people yelling and staring at u

  • Well Appropriator, thanks for your opinion. When our lakes are frozen for 1/2 the year we take what we can get and appreciate it. If I choose to eat quiche at least I can do it on a boat and if you want to play my boat is bigger than your boat you can go play in another sandbox.

  • where i live (florida) people have fist-fights over boat ramp usage. that bayliner is kind of sissy looking! you eat quiche and wear a pink tutu when you take that out on your, er, what is that, a marsh?

  • GREAT video...X2 on what zippy said, I was worrying about being "that guy" on the boat ramp but now I think I can avoid being a jack-hole. thanks for posting

  • Thanks so much I just got my bayliner 175I have wanted a boat all my life your video really helped. Can you make one now showing the steps for winterizing.

    Great job

  • Nice video, good job..

  • Nice video, you did a pretty ggod job, saw your reference on BOC

  • I just bought a boat. after watching you video I can go to the launch and not look like a jack hole trying to launch and recover my boat. Awsome video that I will review with my hole family before he hit the lake for the first time. That way everybody knows what to do when we get there.

  • Im considering purchasing a boat soon, and been doing some research. Your video is the most informative by far, most video I've seen usually have the driver using the engine and driving the boat back onto the trailer, thank you
