@mysteryplane2001 Re The Fall - Play the song 'Over Over', first track on Reformation Post TLC. You won't 'kind of hear it' - it's a direct steal, totally uncredited. I love The Fall by the way, despite the blatant plagiarism.
My roommate was playing Mac Miller's "Smile Back" and I stopped in my tracks and thought "No, it can't be..." Respect to Mac Miller for knowing and sampling the United States of America.
Really love this - reminds me of the old Independent twenties I used to love before 'indie' went main stream. Though this song is decades before and way ahead of it's time.
@visionsofjosh You betcha. Around this same time (1968) There was a similar psychedelic band from Brazil, named Os Mutantes (The Mutants). Much like this, but with great Brazilian rhythms.
@visionsofjosh Love - Da Capo HP Lovecraft - 2 Kaleidoscope - Beacon From Mars Holy Modal Rounder's - Indian War Whoop Jefferson Airplane - Volunteers Sonics - Here Are The Sonics Monks - Black Monk Time Country Joe And The Fish - Electric Music For The Mind And Body The Misunderstood - Before The Dream Faded Captain Beefheart - Safe As Milk
I'm 20, and list amongst my favourite bands: The Yardbirds The Fugs The United Sates of America Faust CAN The Modern Lovers Iron Butterfly West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band Electric Prunes and, the best band ever....Led Zeppelin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
check out the more recent band "Broadcast" if you like this song. A fair bit of their music is heavily influenced by this United States of America album.
I will never forget seeing this band at the Boston Tea Party on Landsdowne street in Boston when I was 19 yrs old. I was so stoned and so mesmerized by Dorothy she was amazing. Wow where has life gone thanks for the memories of younger life. Great times great group. Still have this album thanks deepthroat
WOW! Never heard of this band before, but their stuff is really impressive, and ahead of its time. The mid-/late-60s produced so many amazing musical groups, both famous and obscure. Thanks for posting this!

The Fall technically didn't, but their song Over! Over! is basically 0:10 - 0:13 of this song again and again for 5 minutes, with slightly different lyrics and less interesting music.

My father taught me everything I know about music: without him I'd never listen to The Beatles, Moody Blues, Pink Floyd, Queen and so on...
Now it's time for me to teach him about music, and I'll start with this beautiful album.

This song could pass for 1990s alternative rock. (And yes, I also find something "Stereolabbish" in this work, too :) )

The s/t by the United States Of America
is a psych masterpiece, really better than Sgt. Pepper's. Hardly Experimental but catchy and awfully fascinating! The whole album is wonderful.
Get the recent remastered version, sounds great!
For me the best psych record of the 60's.

Shockingly brilliant electric violin opening. Great vocals. Amazing bass. Yet another masterpiece from an album full of them. Thank you for posting!

so good. there isn't a band out there who sounds like them. fifty foot hose is probably the closest you can get.
skullndroses 3 years ago
Heh and fifty foot hose is miles and miles away from sounding like this band, man thats a weird LP :)
If I had to compare to someone then it would be Baroques or maybe Graffiti, but even they are miles from sounding like TUSOA.
This record went straight to my all time top 10 when I bought it.
