How is Star Wars not gay? Queen Amidala's wardrobe was clearly meant for Siegfried and Roy, and come on guys..... Darth Vader + Bobba Fett + Random Stormtrooper + Sandperson No. 3 and you are half-way to the Village People already.....
It's not that new of a development. In previous Bioware games you could pursue lesbian relationships, they've only recently added a male/male relationship option. So this is nothing new... but remember: girl/girl = sexy. man/man = icky. Uptight conversative nutters.
Pretty much the same thing is happening with Mass Effect 3 and Skyrim. I've seen plenty of angry players in the comments section of sites saying the usual bullshit. I'm not sure if they realize this but when they play games that have the option of homosexual relationships, no one is forcing their character to be gay and none of the gay computer characters will be flirting with you unless you flirt with them first. If you ignore the option, it will be like it's not even there.
@TAOtheGod Let's say 14 for complete internet access. Gay relations in a game should not be a problem at any age. The violence is a more important topic. Don't know what the ratings for that game are but they should be followed.
@gadjox in the end it is at the discretion of the parent/caregiver regardless how the ratings are set up. In cases such as these, what happens in a private home is not our business
In a game you can literally choose on a whim if your character will be gay or straight or whatever. It's telling that it's a scenario where it really DOES work how they think it does, and they still hate it.
I'm assuming that the FRC is unaware that a lesbian relationship was a possible option in Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic (another Bioware game).
What about Goran Beviin, he's gay.Plus even though homosexuality isn't directly mentioned in starwars books and or movies that doesn't mean it's excluded from the universe.
In my experience, arguments in defense of homophobia evaporate especially quickly under even the slightest sprinkling of reason. Clearly, the only way such sentiment is preserved is by preventing even this.
C3-PO is not gay. He's British. It may be hard to tell the difference, but he's not gay. He does remind me of Tim Gunn a little bit, but that doesn't mea he's gay...much.
he is a robot with advanced A.I. nothing more, nothing less. C-3PO was not programmed for sex or sexual attraction ergo, by definition, it CANNOT be gay.
So do the fundies consider it transexual if you're female and have male toons? and you know all those slutty female night elves dancing naked in WoW asking for handouts are actually fat middle-aged virgin men who haven't bathed in a week.
@Primalxbeast You do pose a point. But after all, they are all toons and if the Christians believe that the game would change their children...well they are not in the right mind. It is a video game, nothing more; yet it is a good game and currently on the Bioware site, it is not official anymore that you can have gay relationships within the story. I am sorry, but the Christians are too well uninformed.
There's enough gay in Star Wars to start a parade. Jar-Jar Binks the gay Jamaican, Obi Wan and his..."master". Lando Calrissian and his nifty disco cape. Meeting Han Solo (clear reference to a hand-job) at the gay bar. Vader's love of black leather...and masks. Luke...well c'mon look at him....Twink. It's nothing but gay.
@ravenslave you are forgetting that both Luke and Lando married women and bore children with them. Lando was a Casa Nova. There is nothing gay about him. There was nothing really feminine about Luke and as for the Han Solo and Jar Jar Binks references you are out of your mind. Vader didn't choose his outfit, the emperor did.

@CraniumOnEmpty you know it's bad enough that we are introducing sex into the game at all and now you want to cross species. just use you hand an your imagination. this really is going a bit too far. If you want sex, go find someone for real and keep the cyber world clean
I know this isn't the main point of controversy in the video - but personally I feel that when it comes to fictional worlds people should accept stuff like certain races not existing, or in this case certain sexual preferences not existing. This isn't the real world after all. If there aren't any negroid-like ethnic groups in f.ex. game of thrones - this don't imply underlying racism. That is reading to much into it. Its a fantasy world after all, and the creators should be able to define it
@TheStigma That said - if the creators are willing to be a little flexible with the cannon, then I think its a nice idea to implement. Something like 1 in 20 people are homosexual after all, so if the goal is to please the audience more than sticking very strictly to the cannon then it makes sense. I just think that should be up to the discretion of the authors. Fantasy worlds shouldn't feel obliged to mirror the real world in all aspects - that is the point of fantasy after all.
@TheStigma As for christians going nuts about homosexuality - even if it is just an optional part of a game - this is just par for the course isn't it? *roll eyes* Did anyone else expect anything else from the fundies at this point?
Why would the children of christian fundamentalists be playing star wars in the first place? I thought the whole Force/Jedi religion thing was "devil worship" or "blasphemy" or whatnot.
Why is it that whenever a liberal parent complains he or she is an "activist" but whenever a conservative parent complains it's always "parent" or "family"?
@LindwurParty An activist complains for equal rights, a non-activist, in this case "parent" or "family" complains for oppression. Though, I suppose they could be called oppression activists or something.
So they are bothered by a game that includes consenting adults in a same-sex relationship, but they were never bothered by the fact that Jabba the Hut found humanoid girls hot enough to kidnap them for his entertainment as dancing girls in chains? Inter-species relationship, with one party NOT consenting in the least. Go figure.
Look at Mass Effect 2, they made an entire species hermaphroditic, but appear female. As if that didn't beg the question of an entire species of lesbians.
and not to mention a part of the game where one these hermaphrodites - who is also an alien to your character - attempts to kill your -female- Commander Shepard by having sex.
that's cross-species sex, gay sex, suicide-sex AND they did it all as scientifically accurate as possible.
Dragon Age also has the same options when it comes to the romantic side of the game - I personally could care less - why they even include a romantic component to game at all is beyond me - such things are such a colossal waste of time in reality never mind glutting up the world of fantasy and just gaming. Fuck religion in all its forms - one day it will be looked on as a blight on the history of humanity, one day we will look back and laugh at the delusional fucktards. But not now.
@MyOldName I have to admit that I do not find deep intimate relationships attractive - in a way, they can be "scary" - that aside - the rest of your comment and your next one just shows how much you don't know me. I do not play video games of any description - they are generally too boring, predictable and repetitive. And I'm not really looking to "get any" . . . my priorities in life are not so shallow. Thanks for smug and ignorant reply though - have a great fucking day.
@DarthAzabrush lol sure, cause a guy from the desert's son being the "chosen one", and a mysterious force around everything discovered through an ancient religion; and then the son, the father, and the "force" and a prophecy behind them to "save the galaxy" doesn't sound anything like Christianity.
@props4genu Actually it has more relations to Taoism and Buddhism. I noticed that even when I was still a Christian. In fact, some of the other members in our congregation at the time noticed too. As soon as they realized it, they got very huffy and ranted on about the "stupidity" of it.
@Enki1013 imo all three Taoism, Buddhism and Christianity are ambiguous, and Star Wars is soft science fiction, you'll find you can connect Star Wars to pretty much every one of them in some way.
Although with Lucas being a self proclaimed Buddhist, I can see where you're coming from, the original Star Wars trilogy definitely has lots of Eastern influences. For example going as far as to make Vader look like a Samurai, ready to bend to the will of his master without question.
God that garbage made me want to vomit. Of course whenever our society tries to take a progressive step forward conservative fucktards have run ahead and setup a picket line. If these morons bitch long enough the company may even give in. This is why I wish conservatism would just go extinct!
I accidentally started a gay relationship with an Elf in Dragon Age Origins.
In certain games it makes some sense not to include gay romance stories, like if none of the other characters are gay. But in an MMO as big as Old Republic if you're going bother to add romance into it, you have to add gay romance too.
Can you imagine if these people protested inter-racial reltionships in Star Wars? And I'm not talking about inter-species.
@Fangtorn in this fictional world, there are far too many more issues for a galactic government to deal with. I would imagine homosexuality is very far down on its lists of concerns
@TAOtheGod I wasn't talking about the in-world government. I was talking about the people protesting same sex romantic options in the game, and that this wouldn't be a ok thing to protest if it were inter-racial romantic options.
Homosexuality shouldn't be an issue in the Star Wars universe or outside it. If they're going to bother with romantic options in the first place then they need a really good reason not to include homosexual ones, not "oh no gays don't exist in our universe."
@Fangtorn it's better not to introduce intimacy software at all. If players want to use dialog, then that's fine but there is no need to add physical intimacy into the game.
I know you weren't directly referring to the Star Wars Universe social dynamics but it's important to point out that sex was probably least in importance to the storyline. Romatic relationships in the stories are generally ones of respect and honest love rather than lust driven role-play. Sex is merely inferred
@TAOtheGod Some players like romantic options. I like them when they're done well, when they add something to the story or to the characters. I don't like them when there just hoops to jump through to get to some sex scene.
@Fangtorn in that I think we can agree. The game needs to maintain integrity. My concern is that some will turn it into a sexfest and that's not what it is supposed to be about. There are other sources for that kind of activity. It is not needed here unless, as you said, it advances the story in a meaningful way. Some people just have no respect at all for the Star Wars Universe and its platform.
So what gender was R2D2 anyways. I always thought his height was a perfect match for C3P0's mechanical junk. Robot love has to be our next agenda for liberation.
@TheLummer66 R2-D2 was commonly referred to as male but as we both know gender neutral uses male pronouns in the english language. R2-D2 is a machine not an entity. He can emulate emotion but does not actually have them.
@TOMHYLE88 he certainly comes across as a genuine person and has the ear of a lot of people. The comment I made is my opinion of course, not the OFFICIAL word.
@TAOtheGod Thanks; I genuinely didn't know. I know there is now a vast star wars expanded universe with all kinds of official details, but that's about as much as I know about it.
@TAOtheGod I don't know about that. I think at the end of episode IV R2D2 was having a robot orgasm. One might think he was happy that they destroyed the death star, but I think it was prolonged staring at C3PO' newly polished shiny copper ass. I don't know why your bring ents in to the picture. It's a whole different reality, but I'm pretty sure Treebeard is hetero. He's always searching for the entwives.
@TAOtheGod You said that R2D2 was an entity. To which I say he is a gay robot not a heterosexual tree and I can not see a flaw in my logic. Prove me wrong.
@TheLummer66 you weren't reading closely. I said he was a machine NOT an entity. go back and look at it again. Sex was never an issue in Star Wars, some of you people are reading far too much into this and you are doing it wrong. Let's get this straight. R2-D2 is an astromech which means he helps pilot ships and calculate coordinates. He is NOT in any way programmed for sex. C-3PO is a protocol droid. His function is to assist with politicians in negotiations. He also was NOT programmed for sex.
@TAOtheGod My apologies I'm just playing devil's advocate. I love robots in a platonic way and as long they observe Asimov's three rules. Domo arigato Mr. Roboto. I'm sure that R2D2 is an outstanding functional fictional assexual droid. Let's be friends and bury this ratchet.
I thought people were actually pissed off because they banned any mentioning of it in their forums. Which is kinda messed up. Shocked the FRC wasn't pissed off that you can be a furry in Skyrim and marry someone of the same sex, while worshiping multiple gods for different buffs, and spec'ing in multiple different skills (Two handed *and* stealth?! Insanity!)
@boonw They did, there was controversy over the sex scenes in Mass Effect, until everyone realised the sex scene was bearly five seconds long. Pretty sure Biowae leaked it in the first place for publicity.
I've just checked out the "On Knees for Jesus" website. The Michele Bachmann picture plus the name plus some of the tags seem to indicate satire, although Poe's Law comes into play.
Bioware have had gay relationships in their previous games:
Mass Effect (1 & 2), and Dragon Age 2 (also possible "Origins" as well).
Also Lionhead studios had gay marriage in Fable 2.
Now if only studios would have more orientations, then we could have cisgender panromantic asexuals on horseback firing lightning arrows at rainbow dragon, in space.
If someone could link me to anywhere where Bioware said there aren't any gays in Star Wars, I would love to see it, because, uh, while I cannot recall their names, THERE ARE TWO FUCKING HOMOSEXUAL GUYS! Granted, they're the ONLY ones who have had stories told about them, but meh.
Frank Herbert's Universe is very original and pretty much nothing like StarWars. There's feudalism and lords/barons, spice for space bending as a means of travel, the Butlerian Jihad as historical background etc.
Please tell me how it's a rip off because I love both and see very little similarities (Dune's universe is probably one of the most original in Sci-Fi and I've seen nothing close to it).
@SSTTEEAALLTTHH yes Dune is the shit and I recall Luke saying that his reletives, "srry for the spelling", worked on a spice freighter...Also to NERD it up myself, if starwars was to take place in the universe of dune It would have taken place at the before guild around 14100-11105 it fits due to the events so they share a common time line... None the lest they are both fucking EPIC Dune has way more back story and in my own feelings Starwars is a snapshot of the Empire of a thousand worlds

Talk about the dunbest prorest ever... Bio Ware is known for having homosexual relations in there games anyway
Eopyk 1 month ago 3
I know this isn't the main point of controversy in the video - but personally I feel that when it comes to fictional worlds people should accept stuff like certain races not existing, or in this case certain sexual preferences not existing. This isn't the real world after all. If there aren't any negroid-like ethnic groups in f.ex. game of thrones - this don't imply underlying racism. That is reading to much into it. Its a fantasy world after all, and the creators should be able to define it
TheStigma 1 month ago
@TheStigma That said - if the creators are willing to be a little flexible with the cannon, then I think its a nice idea to implement. Something like 1 in 20 people are homosexual after all, so if the goal is to please the audience more than sticking very strictly to the cannon then it makes sense. I just think that should be up to the discretion of the authors. Fantasy worlds shouldn't feel obliged to mirror the real world in all aspects - that is the point of fantasy after all.
TheStigma 1 month ago
@TheStigma As for christians going nuts about homosexuality - even if it is just an optional part of a game - this is just par for the course isn't it? *roll eyes* Did anyone else expect anything else from the fundies at this point?

Why is it that whenever a liberal parent complains he or she is an "activist" but whenever a conservative parent complains it's always "parent" or "family"?
LindwurParty 1 month ago 70
@LindwurParty An activist complains for equal rights, a non-activist, in this case "parent" or "family" complains for oppression. Though, I suppose they could be called oppression activists or something.

So they are bothered by a game that includes consenting adults in a same-sex relationship, but they were never bothered by the fact that Jabba the Hut found humanoid girls hot enough to kidnap them for his entertainment as dancing girls in chains? Inter-species relationship, with one party NOT consenting in the least. Go figure.

BioWare's games are filled with gay characters.
Look at Mass Effect 2, they made an entire species hermaphroditic, but appear female. As if that didn't beg the question of an entire species of lesbians.
and not to mention a part of the game where one these hermaphrodites - who is also an alien to your character - attempts to kill your -female- Commander Shepard by having sex.
that's cross-species sex, gay sex, suicide-sex AND they did it all as scientifically accurate as possible.
props4genu 1 month ago 5
One of the only things Dragon Age 2 did well was same sex relationships.
That being said the only female choices was A a slut & B an idiot. Buuut all the male choices were emo morons.
At least with this game your choices will be better.
Bi relationship choices is the way of the future.

iCalintz 1 month ago
@iCalintz I don't believe the original writers considered the idea at the time.
TAOtheGod 2 days ago
God some people are dumb. In those Bioware RPG's the only way kids would be "exposed" to the gay components are if they are actively seeking it.
And it's not as if the end result will be Han Solo corn-holing a fucking twi'lek.
Idiots.
GoatOfTheMountains 1 month ago
Dragon Age also has the same options when it comes to the romantic side of the game - I personally could care less - why they even include a romantic component to game at all is beyond me - such things are such a colossal waste of time in reality never mind glutting up the world of fantasy and just gaming. Fuck religion in all its forms - one day it will be looked on as a blight on the history of humanity, one day we will look back and laugh at the delusional fucktards. But not now.

The Star Wars Universe has no Judeo Christian mythology: Therefore no basis for homophobia.
DarthAzabrush 1 month ago 2
@DarthAzabrush lol sure, cause a guy from the desert's son being the "chosen one", and a mysterious force around everything discovered through an ancient religion; and then the son, the father, and the "force" and a prophecy behind them to "save the galaxy" doesn't sound anything like Christianity.
props4genu 1 month ago 2
@props4genu Actually it has more relations to Taoism and Buddhism. I noticed that even when I was still a Christian. In fact, some of the other members in our congregation at the time noticed too. As soon as they realized it, they got very huffy and ranted on about the "stupidity" of it.
Enki1013 1 month ago
@Enki1013 imo all three Taoism, Buddhism and Christianity are ambiguous, and Star Wars is soft science fiction, you'll find you can connect Star Wars to pretty much every one of them in some way.
Although with Lucas being a self proclaimed Buddhist, I can see where you're coming from, the original Star Wars trilogy definitely has lots of Eastern influences. For example going as far as to make Vader look like a Samurai, ready to bend to the will of his master without question.

Fangtorn 1 month ago
@Fangtorn in this fictional world, there are far too many more issues for a galactic government to deal with. I would imagine homosexuality is very far down on its lists of concerns
TAOtheGod 2 days ago
@TAOtheGod I wasn't talking about the in-world government. I was talking about the people protesting same sex romantic options in the game, and that this wouldn't be a ok thing to protest if it were inter-racial romantic options.
Homosexuality shouldn't be an issue in the Star Wars universe or outside it. If they're going to bother with romantic options in the first place then they need a really good reason not to include homosexual ones, not "oh no gays don't exist in our universe."
Fangtorn 2 days ago
@Fangtorn it's better not to introduce intimacy software at all. If players want to use dialog, then that's fine but there is no need to add physical intimacy into the game.
I know you weren't directly referring to the Star Wars Universe social dynamics but it's important to point out that sex was probably least in importance to the storyline. Romatic relationships in the stories are generally ones of respect and honest love rather than lust driven role-play. Sex is merely inferred
TAOtheGod 2 days ago
@TAOtheGod Some players like romantic options. I like them when they're done well, when they add something to the story or to the characters. I don't like them when there just hoops to jump through to get to some sex scene.
Fangtorn 2 days ago
@Fangtorn in that I think we can agree. The game needs to maintain integrity. My concern is that some will turn it into a sexfest and that's not what it is supposed to be about. There are other sources for that kind of activity. It is not needed here unless, as you said, it advances the story in a meaningful way. Some people just have no respect at all for the Star Wars Universe and its platform.
TAOtheGod 2 days ago
So what gender was R2D2 anyways. I always thought his height was a perfect match for C3P0's mechanical junk. Robot love has to be our next agenda for liberation.
TheLummer66 1 month ago
@TheLummer66 R2-D2 was commonly referred to as male but as we both know gender neutral uses male pronouns in the english language. R2-D2 is a machine not an entity. He can emulate emotion but does not actually have them.
TAOtheGod 2 days ago
@TAOtheGod Is that the official word of the star wars universe? In the movies he seems like a fully functioning "AI" with genuine personhood.
TOMHYLE88 2 days ago
@TOMHYLE88 he certainly comes across as a genuine person and has the ear of a lot of people. The comment I made is my opinion of course, not the OFFICIAL word.
TAOtheGod 1 day ago
@TAOtheGod Thanks; I genuinely didn't know. I know there is now a vast star wars expanded universe with all kinds of official details, but that's about as much as I know about it.
TOMHYLE88 1 day ago
@TAOtheGod I don't know about that. I think at the end of episode IV R2D2 was having a robot orgasm. One might think he was happy that they destroyed the death star, but I think it was prolonged staring at C3PO' newly polished shiny copper ass. I don't know why your bring ents in to the picture. It's a whole different reality, but I'm pretty sure Treebeard is hetero. He's always searching for the entwives.
TheLummer66 1 day ago
@TheLummer66 I didn't brings ents in. You did.
TAOtheGod 1 day ago
@TAOtheGod You said that R2D2 was an entity. To which I say he is a gay robot not a heterosexual tree and I can not see a flaw in my logic. Prove me wrong.
TheLummer66 1 day ago
@TheLummer66 you weren't reading closely. I said he was a machine NOT an entity. go back and look at it again. Sex was never an issue in Star Wars, some of you people are reading far too much into this and you are doing it wrong. Let's get this straight. R2-D2 is an astromech which means he helps pilot ships and calculate coordinates. He is NOT in any way programmed for sex. C-3PO is a protocol droid. His function is to assist with politicians in negotiations. He also was NOT programmed for sex.
TAOtheGod 1 day ago
@TheLummer66 R2-D2 not heterosexual, he is not homosexual, he not asexual. he is a robot.
TAOtheGod 1 day ago
@TAOtheGod My apologies I'm just playing devil's advocate. I love robots in a platonic way and as long they observe Asimov's three rules. Domo arigato Mr. Roboto. I'm sure that R2D2 is an outstanding functional fictional assexual droid. Let's be friends and bury this ratchet.

This is so biased.

TheChaosjet 1 month ago
@TheChaosjet
SSTTEEAALLTTHH 1 month ago
@SSTTEEAALLTTHH yes Dune is the shit and I recall Luke saying that his reletives, "srry for the spelling", worked on a spice freighter...Also to NERD it up myself, if starwars was to take place in the universe of dune It would have taken place at the before guild around 14100-11105 it fits due to the events so they share a common time line... None the lest they are both fucking EPIC Dune has way more back story and in my own feelings Starwars is a snapshot of the Empire of a thousand worlds
