  • It was actually 3/5/71. You got the numbers reversed.

  • Comment removed

  • 1 yr after this, a fabulous local band played this at my 1st High School Dance. This 14yr old freshman had her 1st "slowdance" to this song, with a senior. (Ironically, he had Robert Plant's hair.) Quite a magic night for a 14yr old! :-)

  • where did you get the pic?

  • @stonethecrow80 i have that pic on a poster i bought at F.y.e. lol.

  • I think around 8 mins the kettle has boiled.

  • @MrSarahmike ahahahahaha... somebody forgot the kettle in the fire.

  • Sorry folks, massive Zep fan, but this sounds terrible.

  • @SongHooks1993 Well I've a problem with calling anyone "god" but everything else you said was true. It's been a while & they're still using him as a blueprint for guitar playing.

  • their so young in the picture!!!

  • why does the key change halfway the video??

  • Almost,...it was recorded with a potato.

  • I think this concert was recorded with a blackberry

  • @SaruSaral28 Nah man It was recorded by Thomas Edison on a tin foil cylinder lol

  • you guys sound like 10 year-olds.

  • 45 people bought stairways to hell...

  • Is Stairway really satanic backwards? There is a strong proof AGAINST that. Think forwards for a sec:

1)Zeppelin are completely ignoring the whole rumor

2)Plant who hated witchery wrote the lyrics, NOT Page. Page confirms this.

3)Words and sentences are well put together and make sense (story-wise)

    4)Song holds a positive message

Lastly; the words rhyme. If you were to put a message backwards that makes sense, it would be hell of a lotta work to give em meaning + make em rhyme forwards.

  • @apollo11bb exactly. It would be waaaay too difficult to create a coherent song of Stairway's beauty and magnitude that also had a backwards message.

  • @apollo11bb No, Led Zepplin spelled backwards is not satanic, only if you believe it is. Why do people do that? This is a classic tune, but a classic rock band. Just because it's not catagorized as Christian does not make it satanic, sigh. I know you aren't saying they are, I just had to comment. Led Zepp were not satanic.

  • @ShieldMaidenBLS he said it wasn't satanic lol... you're arguing with yourself there...

  • @RyanTD123 I wasn't arguing with him. I was agreeing with him. He didn't say it was satanic, but I've heard it before. Not just about Led Zep or this song. That kind of stuff has driven me a little crazy for years. I was just reacting, thanks though.

  • @RyanTD123 Did you see in my comment where I said I wasn't saying that person was saying they were?

  • @apollo11bb by a classic rock band* correction

  • @apollo11bb not arguing with you, I was actually agreeing with you. I just reacted to the satanic part. That stuff drives me nuts . :)

  • O NO! 666 comments!

  • @apollo11bb and 555 likes!!

  • The best rock song ever, out of doubt. The great rock band ever, of the rest.

  • I used to take arrows to the knees but now i take spears to the ass!

  • This is eeriely good. If thats a word

  • I used to be able to walk the stairway to heaven, then i took an arrow in the knee

  • @diegodragonbooster not another stupid skyrim joke.......not on led zep's magnum opus for heaven sake !

  • @juggert hehe

  • someone get the kettle....

  • It makes sense that this was in the catergory Education. Listen and learn there will be no one better bitches.

  • Nobody remembered laughter... :)

  • What it is, is that at times you can hear Roberts dry voice and whats coming through the speaker at the same time. Whoever made this recoding must have been in a sweet part of the crowd.

  • my friend saw them in berkley that same year and said JPJ played the flute in the opening of stairway. I told him it's an organ not a flute. he googled it and he was correct! I felt like a big A-hole!

  • @goshawk1974 it was actually a recorder. Yay rock trivia.

  • the crowd never excepted the song rite off they wan't to hear whole lotta love, this is in the documentary, what a song it turned out to be

  • I have just watched a tatty KISS video. The sound is bad here but it is 10 times better than that.

  • if page and hendrix had a guitar battle to see who was better people's heads would explode...

  • @TheStephanie362 Look up Roman Bunka

  • @TheStephanie362 why do you think God took Hendrix?

  • @TheStephanie362 no, it would either create a black hole...or even worse, it will conjure up chuck norris!

  • @TheStephanie362 Indeed that would be the case; however, I believe the Hendrix would win that one.

  • @TheStephanie362 but we all know who would win jimi was an artist page was a guitarist.... jimi was always trying to progress sadly page today will never live up to his former glory maybe the question is, who would win page in his prime? or jimi if he was living now? the world will never know..... two great guitarists ahead of their time.

  • @SongHooks1993 You are implying that Jimmy Page was not as much an artist on guitar as Hendrix ? I cannot disagree more . Page was a true artist ,a sonic architect .Hendrix was much more unorthodox /

  • @Cincinnatus1869 definantly agree with you their, hendrix was definantly an unorthodox. and thats what i mean, theirs plenty of weird people out their but to hone and own it is a tough thing to do and hendrix did it with grace. Everything page wrote was awsome but he borrowed alot from the king....Theres a video of hendrix playing and hes playing the riff to one of zeppelin's songs 14 years earlier. ill have to find it so i can show you, your gonna be like holy shit!

  • @SongHooks1993 was it a Yardbirds lick Jimi was playing ? he was a big fan , and of course Page went on to use alot of the live improv stuff from the Yardbirds in Zeppelin .

  • @Cincinnatus1869 not a yardbirds lick it. it was a zeppellin lick im gonna find it right now.....BRING IT ON HOME!!! thats what the song is god it took me forever page coppied the change up in that song from jimi ill try to see if i can find the video...gonna be ten times harder tho jimi has 1000s of videos on here

  • @SongHooks1993 I cab belive that man no need to dig up the vid . I imagine Hendrix had heard the lick on an old blues record himself . That's pretty much what all the contemporary 'psychedelic blues' rock bands of that era were doing . Just a mash up of blues cliche's and licks that had been played for years in the south unbeknownst to white young people .

  • @Cincinnatus1869 agreed, page has lived through all of the generations worth living through and adapted his music to EVERY one. hes like a legend, but more ledgendary.

  • @SongHooks1993 As much as I like LZ I have to say both were great artists & guitarists BUT Hendrix wins & I'll tell you why. When hendrix came on the scene he was immediately recognized as being better & more advanced than other guitarists. Even his peers couldn't believe what they were seeing let alone hearing. Page by this time was playing with the yardbirds. Although an exhilirating player,he didn't set the world alight. He wasn't recognized as such he was just another member of the band.

  • @fairyfellermaster exactly hendrix was a god as soon as the right people heard him...he battled clapton (who then was known as god) and took his crown and thrown for himself....its nuts its been 40-50 yrs or so after his death and people are still comparing him....that alone says he was more than just a player...he was a prophet of music...

  • @TheStephanie362 Half way through Eric Clapton would descend from the heavens and rock their balls off

  • @XxToHellAndBackxX not an dyour screen name sux

  • @KabbalahWestCoast ...and you cant spell for shit....?

  • @TheStephanie362 I measure who's better not by who can play a zillion notes per second but by how their music impacts me emotionally in all directions. By that standard Jimmy Page has no equal in my book (though I do like Hendrix) I have always argued that Page is superior. He just has that magical gift of knowing what to play & what not to play, and when. It's fashionable to hop on the 'Hendrix was the best bandwagon', but I guarantee you that tens of millions prefer Page.

  • What you're hearing is a an amalgam of several boots patched to complete and entire performance. There may be some confusion regarding the date English/American. The show was 5th March, 1971. And yes, this is that performance.

  • I don't think this is ZEP.

  • @jdsingsagain09 I have the entire show. I assure you this is Led Zeppelin. :)

  • @Evster2012 - I'll take your word on it.

  • /watch?v=M9w-TR-TO3Y&feature=g-upl

  • so classic !

  • this is what 70's bootlegs sounded like when you had a cassette recorder with a big hand held mic and twisty knobs.

  • No its not!

  • Who says?

  • Jimmy looks so cool in this picture, a perfect guitar god for sure.

  • someone take the kettle off the freaking stove!!!!

  • this band led the way on so many levels and yet its rare to see jimmy dressed like that and yet.. even that look was copied to death. Led Zep no.1 always.

  • I WONDER HOW MUCH THE STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN WOULD COST IN TODAYS DOLLARS !

  • @HEARTHEANGELSVOICES $1.29...

  • @HEARTHEANGELSVOICES The song is about, that you can't buy a stairway to heaven...

  • @HEARTHEANGELSVOICES your soul

  • @HEARTHEANGELSVOICES WHY ARE YOU SCREAMING MAN

  • @HEARTHEANGELSVOICES Add up the wars in Iraq, Afghanistan, the UN monopolization of Libya and Egypt. And you may be close.

  • @MrDeliMeatSlicer According to the Global elite.

  • 4:38 wtf?! why the sound changed so suddenly .__.?

  • @nabo97 like with the solo part, it seems to be cut in from the november 16 1971 concert in ipswich

  • 7:55 - kettle is boiling...

  • Comment removed

  • Jimmy looks like a punk nazi for some reason

  • The guitar sound like NOT clean, thats why it sounds werid :S

  • This brings back memories. What happened to the good times I had back then?

  • Im 1 and i love his song. gogo gaga.

  • Happy 40th Stairway!

  • First and the last part is from the first public perfomance of stairway, March 5 1971 in Ulster Hall in Belfast. The solo cut in seems to be taken from the November 16 1971 concert in St. Matthew's Baths Hall in Ipswich (hope someone can confirm this).

  • @Afrofnussling I agree, very annoying...

  • The audience sounds bored. It's weird how many barriers people put up before accepting new music.

  • @mikedonn71 Yeah, I read how Robert Plant said the first time they played it, nobody was very interested because they wanted to hear something they knew.

  • @ZiggyHuttinga Interesting comment, and a very accurate one. It's always that way - most people who come to shows want to hear what they've heard over and over on the radio. As for me, I absolutely love hearing new music....and I can't imagine what I would have given to be present at this show.....As a lifelong fan of Led Zep, this is epic, and priceless. The sound was certainly much better than this recording indicates. My advice - An open mind gives things a chance to become classics...

  • @mikedonn71 perhaps because they didn't know what was coming - legends!

  • the changes in sound are funny XD

  • what a voice....wauw...

  • Bad sound

  • @AqwOtavvio are you serius ??? did you want HD sound? i think this recorded from these old tape-players ..

    sory not good english xD

  • @AqwOtavvio It's a bootleg, they rarely sound "Good", I've heard a lot worse than this before...

  • Sounds like two different tape recorders in two different parts of the room. Shame about what happens at 8:11 :(

  • The first public performance was performed in London in '71. That version is on "BBC Sessions" and has comments from Jimmy Page himself, saying that it was in fact the first performance....

  • @danimal97520 in a comment by both john paul jones and Jimmy page it was played on March 5th, 1971. It was played 3 months later in the BBC Sessions CD.

  • @Rocky54167 *March 3rd 1971

  • How the hell did this get past Peter Grant?

  • they obviously got better sound quality as they went

  • you can tell it's the first time because the crowd isn't freaking out xD

  • @JasonTheGuitarHero ahahahahaha

  • Bad quality,... but wauw.... that just gives it that mistique spirit!

  • a historic moment of the music ♥

  • Why the fuck are the related videos all of 13yr girls playing metallica?

  • @bronenalladin why r u lookin at 13 year old girls playin metallica?

  • it kindof sounds like two recordings merged together. Is it possible that's the case?

  • this rec was in the Ulster Hall Belfast Irland. Prod to be from the town that Led zeppelin showed for the 1st time ever the trun meaning of rock&Roll.

  • did you record this on a calculator?

  • @dylannoble92 It's called a bootleg redording and they were very hard to get at Zeppelin concerts so be thankfuj somebody actually got this without being caight by Grant or his lackys.

  • @GuitarPlayerGuy1 hey dude its all cool. Led Zep lives on.

  • this sounds like it was recorded on a broken phone shoved up someones ass, great song but terrible quality

  • @paleryder22 and then soaked in piss...

  • Stairway wasn't recieved well wen it first was done, needless to say it was to become one of the all time greats

  • The pic is Led Zeppelin playing The Song Remains The Same in Chicago, April 10, 77. Here's 8mm footage. watch?v=XA49LXPpB40. Don't know why it's sped up, but there's the proof. Also, Jimmy Page only wore that now legendary getup for only a couple songs at that one concert. Also John Paul Jones plays keyboards during Stairway, as the only other time Jimmy uses his double neck is when JPG is on bass for TSRTS and The Rover-Sick Again medley at the start of all 77 concerts. Yeah, I'm a diehard fan!

  • @Downwiththebaby Thanks for the link! Not one of Jimmy's better outfits but then it was the '70's lol! :D

  • ♪♪♪♪♪♪♪♪♪♪♪♪♪♪♪♪♪♪♪♪♪♪♪♪♪♪♪♪♪♪♪♪♪♪♪♪♪♪♪♪♪♪♪♪♪♪♪♪♪♪♪♪♪♪♪♪♪♪♪♪♪♪♪♪

  • @JasonTheGuitarHero hahahahaha

  • 8:05 - water's boiling.

  • is that the picture from the concert?

  • @guitarx341 No sorry, it's from a 1977 concert. I couldn't find any pictures from the concert, and this one is one of my favourite so it just used it instead.

  • @guitarx341 I don't think this is from 1977. If you're a heard core Zeppelin freak as far as the bootlegs go , you can tell by the guitar parts thats it's not 1977. Is it the first performance ever? I don't know. Lots of wierd things going on with this recording.....whistling at the end, the tape changing pitch! It's stil good to hear though.

  • @Mr29roses I never said it was from 1977..I just asked if the picture was from the concert they played at in this video...

  • I first heard this song in 1993 on a local radio station in New York. I will never forget the feeling of shock and numbness after the song was over. I did not want to hear anything else; I turned off the radio, and sat there in disbelief as the tune played in my memory. I had heard the song of songs; whose words or sounds could not be explained, ever.I still feel that way today.

  • the EDS came after the song but he bought the EDS to play it live.

  • Fuck! Im 14. Why was I born to late?

  • @Nr1Commentator its never to late

  • @Nr1Commentator same here man, tho im 13

  • @Nr1Commentator I ask to me too! Hell!

  • @Nr1Commentator because our parents forgot to use the condom too late.

  • @Nr1Commentator YES YES YES YES haha i'm 13 and i swear to god i should have been 13 anywhere in the 60's/70's. the only reason i can think of that i should be alive NOW is to bring back this music and the concept and mindset behind it.

  • @Nr1Commentator But if you lived back then, right now you would be saying, "Fuck! I wish I could go back."

  • In the photo Page looks like one of the Village People

  • some one find this version but with better quality

  • Did Jimmy use a Les Paul or the EDS??

  • @Rockinnsk8inallday Sounds like the EDS to me. Up to ~6.00 minutes sounds as though its played on the 12 string, and then switches with no delay to the 6 string for the solo, so it must be the EDS-1275.

  • @Breesey damn u know ur shit hah, its so hard for me to tell the names of every guitar and memorize all those letters, not that i try. but thts crazy

  • @Breesey It seems to me that it's all played on a 6 string guitar.... and 2 different sound sources as well.... or maybe 3

  • @Rockinnsk8inallday its his eds as a 58 les paul could never be mistaken or sound that twangy (jimmy doesn't fret this song very well to much of the high octive strings )but its always nice to hear something different

  • this song sounds like i'm in heaven.

  • altough it's kind of crap quality, it sounds kind of mistique.

  • in ireland at last.

  • PRICELESS

  • is really the first time they play stairway???!?!?!!

  • where can i get this picture ?

  • @AntiRasputinsVlog if you message me your email address, I can send it to you.

  • @Breesey hey dude..thanx a bunch for the upload of this....its wonderful and indeed one of the greatest moments in the history of rock....can u send the pic if u have it?i ll pm my mail address to u....thnx again man

  • Something JPJ said once, that when they debuted this song, people were booing & wanting the Whole lotta love riff...& that it wasn't like these gods or prophets (or something to that affect) locked themselves in a room and days later came out with this song...although thats how I envisioned it : ) I kinda thought ..wow.. they are human ?

  • i have NIrvana,floyd and Zeppelin....i dnt need heroin,cocaine and smack....

    fuck all other bands...

  • @gaurav984504 Dumbass

  • the pitch shifts and all the sounds in general tied in with this make it fucking great and at points hilarious

  • This has to be the first time because the crowd didn't even react when Jimmy played the intro!

  • were you making tea during the show?

  • what happened to this song?? its sound bad.... bad quality in the record moment?? anyway....... its my favorite song ever!! however it sound....

  • CAN YOU EVEN IMAGINE BEING AT THIS CONCERT????! Being one of the first people to hear Led Zeppelin's most well known song. God i wish i was there!!!

  • @LesPaulZeppelin It's not there most well known song.

  • @fyflishfy That depends on who you ask.

  • I believe they played it @ BBC Sessions the 1st time. Correct me if I'm wrong.

  • @KISSUnion The BBC sessions were recorded on the 1st April, 1971. This was the 5th of March, so about a month earlier. The BBC sessions version is much more listenable though, and the solo is awesome! There's rumour he had a lot of trouble playing the solo on the studio version, but listening to him playing it live he seems to nail it! Even though he's obviously winging it.

  • @Breesey Ok thank you :) Greets from Germany

  • @Breesey He did have trouble with his other guitars. Then he used his old tele to make the solo. It sounds fucking phenomenal as you can hear in the record.

  • @Breesey He winged it in the studio, too

  • Thanks. These older recordings are a treat.

  • los tonos de todo cambian 3 veces hace sonar a la cancion muy mal... y yo amo esta cancion... fue error tuyoo?
