  • I mean when you look at the guitar work of such artists as Herman Li and Paul Williamson you realise that a "Chapman Stick is both shit and not with the times." lest we forget that Noel Gallagher is responsible for such classics as "Wonderwall" and "Champagne Supernova." You have to consider when watching videos like this that there are other amazing musicians out there, have any of you seen the work of Matt Heafy from Trivium? Well if not I suggest you look at some of his incredible playing.

  • this is shit

  • Awesome!!!

  • v sauce

  • So I nearly spit my juice all over my computer screen. I was just talking to my friend who's coming over to my house. His name is Rob Martino. Then I hit the stumble upon button and this video pops up "Rob Martino - one cloud", that was one hell of a coincidence.

  • This is so great!

  • i heard this back in 07 and it still amazes me today, good job man

  • this is seriously been one of my favorite songs for the last couple years, such an amazing piece full of emotion and talent, which has been lacking in most music and musicians in recent years.

  • My respect, also, I see and hear things in this music.

  • Awesome playing and composing skills! Very nice tone, too. Chapman Sticks are very cool.

  • After listening 30 seconds I've bought your album. Very beautiful music, I really enjoy it, keep it up!

When I have enough money, I'll definitely buy a stick :)

  • puttin good musicians out work! maybe he doesnt like to jam with other folks

  • @bbooz How do you mean?

  • You're awesome!

  • Hey! do you plan to visit some festivals in Czech republic? I'd like to see you play live! :)

  • The feeling was cured.

  • Rob is brilliant. I have his album and it's gorgeous. Check it out!

  • Respect bro.

  • but can it djent?

  • @mrdeath007 That would be awesome

  • How much does one of these cost?

  • @b33rbashj4wnson, $2100-$2500 for a 10-string, and $2500-2900 for a 12-string... about 10 years ago it was about $1000 less, and I couldn't justify that for an instrument I may never really be able to learn, but I do love the instrument.

  • amazing!

  • it sounds so sweet :)

  • i have only word for this .. amazing

  • Wow! U R great, man! Fantastic!

  • great music..... Amazing!!! loved it! also bought it from itunes!

  • I just wanted to say that your video has driven me to try and learn the Chapman Stick! If only I had an extra $1K around, I'd be more than happy to give it a shot...that and my coordination between bass strings and melody strings would be hard for me to grasp

  • there is something about 2:28 and on, that sends shivers down my spine.

  • that's amaizing, you're true prodigy

  • You have convinced me to buy a Stick for myself.

  • Tony Levin x1000!! Wow! Good luck for your future project!

  • ¿Is there a solo album some place. or about something like this or Chapman Stick? ¡Beautifull instrument!

    =)

Excume for the naivety jaja. =P.

  • @NCoreyCH yes, I have a solo album, see robmartino (dot) com

  • fuck yes !

  • this is sooo goood

  • this is badass

  • Awesome sounds!! Thanks for sharing this, I'm looking forward to hearing more

  • Would Really love one of these but their just so darn expensive....someday I will get my hands on one of these beautiful instruments

  • He's playing with his stick

  • Specifically: Super Metroid Music - Brinstar (Underground Depths) - not Upper Brinstar, which has a totally differing feel. I tried to include the YouTube URL, but the Post Software used here creates an error and won't allow me to proceed. Cheers.

  • I agree with MrGuitarpete, your music is really wonderful and inspiring. Thank you so much for being you. Simply as a gentle and respectful suggestion, and only if you like this piece of music(and no serious copyright conflicts, or course): I think it would be really wonderful if you adapted/did your version of Super Metroid's Brinstar Theme

  • wonderful and inspiring

  • dude... everytime i'm stressed out... this is where i go to!!!!... nice man.. really nice...!!!

  • This is the worst Chapman Stick player I have ever seen! Cocky douche nozzle

  • @tylermaxoh Sarcasm is obvious.

  • Where to buy it?

Is it easy to learn, if you can play guitar already?

  • How could you possibly dislike this?

  • Great vid man

I'm looking into one of these, what kind of stick would you recommend for beginners,

    thanks,

    Evan

  • @The7Evanator check out stickist (dot) com for discussion and info, any Stick as long as it's set up correctly would be fine for a beginner. NS/Stick and Stick Bass (8 string versions) are good if you want to transition from bass to tapping, the 10 and 12 String standard Sticks are the best for solo music I think.

  • Awesome! Well I know who to call when I need a session chapman player! Haha.

  • Awesome sound and playing! What is your effects setup and amps?

  • @GoBigC you can check out my website FAQ at robmartino (dot) com for latest info, for this video it was a few Boss multi-effects in parallel (GX-700 and SE-70s) direct to computer. For gigs lately I use a Fishman SA-220 for my amp and POD HD 500 for effects.

  • pls make a cover of Test Drive - How To Train Your Dragon. THANK YOU, :)

  • Very nice work of art!

I really like the mood, the tone and the choice of notes.

    Keep it up!

    Tony

  • Thanks for the beautiful tune on the amazing Chapman Stick.

  • What tuning do you use? and what is standard tuning for the stick?

  • @black1swan2green3 I use a mirrored 4ths tuning. The more standard tuning is bass in inverted 5ths and melody in 4ths.

  • I found this guy on Ronald Jenkees subscriptions because you figure, your favourite musicians must have good taste in music, then proceeded to buy One Cloud. AWesome

  • @SmartYouTubification Thanks, I have Ronald to thank for a lot of my YouTube hits!

  • I can't get the time signature of the intro haha

  • @TheMireBeneath just simple 4/4 :-) maybe the mild syncopation throws it off a bit.

  • oh my god{smashes d-35 in jealousy} I need to buy something like a triangle...great job

My first exposure to the Stick-thanks a lot!

  • Incredible sound Rob, just learned of the Chapman stick tonight for the first time, and hit your video first, all I can say is wow!

  • wooow how do you do that !!!!!!!!

  • awesome!!Good music...

  • This is the music I've been looking for, and thanks to you I've now found it, absolutely perfect, a true inspirational musician

  • i can barely play my stick....awesome man !!!

  • are you a wizard?

  • so nice! i wish i knew how to play the chapman stick

  • Rely cool

  • Nice tune. That's one of the coolest instruments I've ever seen.

  • This music matters. Absolutely beautiful

  • Beautiful tone and playing. It reminds me of the late great Michael Hedges when I close my eyes.

  • I would give up guitar if I had to, to learn the Stick... and for me personally, I suspect I WOULD have to :-) Wonderful piece!

  • This

    Is

    AMAZING :O

  • Best string instrument ever created!

  • it´s amazing

  • Wonderful. Incredible playing, nice music.

  • Is it to wrong to say I cry a little listening to the sheer talent and beauty poured into this?

  • omg, amazing stuff, beautiful melody, but i guess you wll need a metronome..

  • Is there any place where I can get the tabs for this?? It sounds beautiful and I sure would like to give it a go.

  • @histgirl thanks! sorry, I don't write anything down, and I'm not sure how useful tab would be since I use a custom Stick tuning not many other people use. maybe someday I'll just list the chords and maybe notate the melody.

  • Comment removed

  • @histgirl use your ears

  • Oh my God where do get that instrument, I have to get one....would solve almost all of my recording issues

  • are you a wizard? my brain barely functions fast enough for 6 strings

  • this must be a bitch and a half to tune O.O

  • Thank you. So inspiring. Truly touching.

  • must have hard time changing strings .. : (

  • the co-ordination that would take,

    is immense

  • are you playing this to a metronome or just winging it? I can't figure out the timing

  • @adamharrison12 no metronome, it's just 4/4 with some mildly syncopated rhythms although there are also a couple timing flubs in there.

  • @rpmartino absolutely beautiful tone on that chapman buddy! I would love to get one. I played a warr guitar a few times and surprised myself at what I could do on it. I love the concept of the instrument and again the tone is amazing. I've checked out all your songs on here. Love it! keep it up.

  • beautiful instrument.. How is it tuned ?

  • @chudnovsky there are a few different tunings that people commonly use, I use a mirrored fourths tuning (EADGCF on bass, BEADGC on melody)

  • Nice!.. are you on facebook.. I will link you up with a good friend, man who builds instruments such as you're playing.. 28 strings.. thnak you for sharing..

  • @SnowyImpressions yes I am on facebook, just search for my name

  • That tone is amazing

  • One of the best youtube videos ever!!! Hail!

  • how much is one of those?

  • @udienowisay see stick.com

  • @udienowisay about a grand!

  • i gues there is no tab for this masterpiece ???

  • @nikos1995patra sorry no! I don't write anything down and since I use a non-standard Stick tuning I'm not sure how useful it would be to have precise tab anyways...

  • @rpmartino i see my friend. no problem :) I only have to tell you that your music is exquisite !!! When i first saw this video i couldn't believe my ears (and my eyes) :D Keep playing

  • how much is one of thouse

  • @thekingjacob100 stick.com has latest prices

  • Man this video makes me want to buy a Chapman Stick even more, only problem is I can't quite afford it. Absolutely beautiful in every way! Love it.

  • Great sound and music!

  • my mind is miles away from my body when i listen this song.... U r amazing man!

  • truly amazing! you have great talent and the sound is just perfect!

  • Out of curiosity, is there a bit of Michael Hedges influence in your playing?

  • This is REALLY good man.

  • What made you buy one of these? I'm assuming you played guitar before playing this right?

  • @Nogert I was mostly interested in the instrument because it allows one to explore new musical territory, it combines the polyphony of a piano with the expressiveness of guitar. I did play some guitar (as well as bass, keyboard and flute) before focusing on this.

  • This piece definitely has heart to it. I'm impressed with your work man! I look forward to hearing more from you in the future :)

  • Instant fan!!!

  • So im guessing that sort of instrument is connected to amp? Well if yes, did u tryed to play on it using distortion like? GJ btw, im just sick of guys playing covers and its clearly to see that ur music got the soul.

  • Comment removed

  • hey rob... what instrument is this? I jave heard of 11 string bass guitars and all... is this one of them? is it similar to tap-playing a guitar? if yes, then where can i buy one?

  • You r fu***n amazing! mean it!! :D can you tell me more about your influences? would you say that this your music is fusion?thanx and sorry for bad English

    Greetings from Serbia!

    CCCC

  • @ipiZmaj86 hello thanks, check out my website for more info on my background. mostly I'm inspired by progressive and art rock stuff like Jethro Tull, Rush, Marillion, early Genesis, etc.

  • @rpmartino Hey, Rob. I have folowed you for several years now and love the creations you have composed. If I had to put your music into a genre category, for the moment, I'd have to say smooth jazz. One of these days, I would really love to hear your music on a station like The Oasis. I think it can stand alongside artists like Rick Braun, Keiko Matsui, Kitaro, Andreas Vollenweider, and Mindy Abair, suffering nothing by comparison. Keep it coming, bud. You're doing great!

  • @rpmartino Been following you for several years, Rob. Seems One Cloud just continues to be my favorite since it was my first introduction to your music. If I had to categorize it, smooth jazz would be the genre I'd pick for it. I think it can stand in comparison with artists like Rick Braun, Keiko Matsui, Mindy Abair, Kitaro, and Andreas Vollenweider without suffering any lack of quality.

  • The song Amethyst Deceivers was the first song i ever heard with chapman stick. Searching led me to this video of One Cloud several years back. i still find myself visiting this page on a quite frequent basis. So beautiful. Check out the song by the late Coil; Amethyst Deceivers.

  • Simply beautiful.

  • thanks god this guy has two hands and four brains.

  • @edukarasch well I'm not even sure I have one whole brain

  • @rpmartino of course you do man! i wish i could have 1/4 of your inspiration ;)

  • @rpmartino Brains get you only so far. This is heart, The brain is helping it get out, And the hands do the work.

  • @edukarasch He'd only need three: one to control each hand, and one to coordinate the two...

  • THEY COST AROUND 2500 DEDENDING ON THE MODEL

  • Comment removed

  • amazing .....

  • HI i'm very interested in that instrument...! could you help me telling me the price...? I think they're expensive..!

how much is one of those?

  • @XaviOrtega1 it depends on the model and options, the stick website has all the current prices

  • @XaviOrtega1 This is called a Chapman Stick

They run like 2000. You can find their website stick.com

  • This is just so beautiful and your playing looks so smooth and effortless - really quite sublime.

  • A M A Z I N G !

Would love to put lyrics to one of these songs.

  • omg this is wonderufl

  • sublime..!!!! j'adore le talent..

  • sorry but i read the title and i just mishear it as "chapmans dick". anyway this was a good listen :)

  • As recommended by Andy salvanos, freaking amazing! Love it!

  • its a bass! its a piano! no, its a jesus guitar

  • Crazy Shit man!!!

I love the Chapman-Stick, but i have enough with my Bass, maybe in 10 years, heh...

  • Thank you for this song !!!!!! I like it so much. Very nice feelings and emotions. And I like the way you play, too.

  • Back again to watch this beautiful video, yep it's still amazing...

  • i wanna have sex with everything.

  • It is as if a guitar and a piano made sweet, sweet love.

The keytar is the evil twin that no one likes to talk about.

  • @Boogyster Maybe first a guitar and bass made sweet, sweet love and their offspring made sweet, sweet love to a piano?

  • Love this :)

  • so relaxing, absolutely beautiful piece of work

  • I really admire your ability, and almost wasn't going to advise you. What your doing is amazing and complex.your very close to virtuosity smooth out your meter, something a non musician might not notice. I've been a studying musician for 46 years. I'll say it again I can listen to you play all day.

  • Damn, this is AWESOME! thx for the nice upload!

  • wow man.......love this song!!

  • That's awesome o.o And so Wonderful.

  • amazing !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i lost my ipod and i had your album there =(

  • wow men thats good...

  • This is an amazing sound! You have a wonderful touch on this instrument. Your on my favorite list. Being a musician myself Its wonderful to find people such as yourself who clearly can express through the music. Thank you for sharing this with us!

  • I think the angels put down their harps so they can give a listen!

  • Really beautiful....

  • This has been on top of my list of favourite songs for quite some time now. Always when I feel down or need to have a good vibe, I listen to this song. Helped me through many hard nights on tour as well, thank you for that!

  • just beautiful

    much respect

  • i see twenty strings imo

  • Awesome

  • Feller, you're kind of like the Joe Satrini of Chapman stick! I love the sound, great!

  • how much does a chapman stick cost? i saw Bob Culbertson playing today at a local mall and was extremely impressed. I had to buy one of his CDs!

  • @npbass 2100$ for a 10 string. 2500$for a twelve string version.

    w ww. stick. com/prices/

  • Thank you ever so much, this helped calm me down from an evening of shouting and yelling where I thought I might actually do something stupid but after stumbling across this I completely calmed down :)

  • Thank you John Myung for introducing me to this amazing instrument. And thanks Rob for such an awesome song.

  • this has 609,307 views. Pitbull - hey baby has over 5million....proof that more people have stupidity in common than culture and intellect

  • Were can I order a set of your fingers? Mine don't work like they should.

  • I... Just... Cried...

  • Incredible i came across this by chance what a piece of music!

  • i wonder. is it possible to build an intsriment similar to a chapmans stick (and it may already have this feature) that has 2 inputs, so you can use 2 separate amps ?

  • @crazytim1000 I think you meant 'outputs' instead of inputs. Chapman sticks use a standard Y cable, so you have one cable out of the stick that splits into two different outputs, and each output covers 6 of the strings on the stick. So yes, you could use two different amps (one for the melody, and one for the bass side.)
