You know, we all love to get a laugh at people embarassing themselves or doing destructive things (that's why YouTube exists, I think). And of course, we have the blind Brian Wilson cultists who think lightning will strike them if they say something even constructively critical of His Lordship B.W. But honestly, it's very disturbing that Brian was toted out on tour like this and allowed to act this way in public.The family really should have institutionalized him by this point for his own good.

@peterp21 Brian already had been institutionalized by that point - back in 1968, before he was released because it didn't do much help at all, and perhaps made things worse (there's a reason why his productivity dropped between Friends and 20/20). A lot of people like to point fingers at his family for allowing his mental illness to progress to this point, but there was honestly little they could do.

Yeah I'm pretty sure that Brian's performance was not only a dig at Mike Love (looks like he wanted to pounce on him, had he not had a guitar in his hand) but I'm pretty sure he was fueled up with lots of a certain white, powdery substance prior to galloping on stage.

ye im also wondering, he sang some nice lines on Love You from this period, so he still had a good voice if he wanted, but his voice was changed radically in 1973-1974. it used to be so sweet....

very true, his voice was totally destroyed in the early-mid 70's his voice in 1990-present is better than anything from 1973-1990

Mike was asking Brian if he(ML) was sensing somewhat of a temper coming from Brian. He told him to direct his temper at the microphone. (thus getting himself out of the line of fire) When Brian handed the bass back to Mike at the end, one could imagine Brian telling Mike to put it where the sun don't shine. ;-D

Brian was great! I love every minute of this great video. The mic hitting was missed comedy by some. The mic was shaking and he has always been a bit o comedian. If you don't recognize his genius, you just aint there yet! Keep trying, you'll grow someday up if you keep trying. Brian Wilson. I love it!!!

Mike Love's problem is he's always been a jealous, bitter, egomaniac who is also bereft of any true talent. Simple. If he hadn't been born Brian Wilson's cousin, he would have spent his life as a gas station attendant. A dark person with bad bad karma.

It's sad to see him reduced to touring while still clearly mentally unbalanced and with a voice shot by drugs and smoking. He's a survivor but his genius was dimmed by his problems a lot. He seems pretty unhinged here.
